As a manufacturer of wheelchairs, Invacare endeavors tosupply a wide variety of wheelchairs to meet many needsof the end user. However, final selection of the type ofwheelchair to be used by an individual rests solely withthe user and his/her healthcare professional capable ofmaking such a selection. Invacare recommends workingwith a qualified rehab technology provider, such as an ATP,(Assisstive Technology Professional).

1.3.1 Set Up

WARNING!Risk of Injury or DamageIncorrect set up of this wheelchair performed byusers/caregivers or unqualified technicians can result ininjury or damage.– User/Caregivers- DO NOT attempt to set up thiswheelchair.

– Initial set up of this wheelchair MUST be performedby a qualified technician.

DANGER!Risk of Death, Serious Injury, or DamageContinued use of the wheelchair that is not set to thecorrect specifications may cause erratic behavior of thewheelchair resulting in death, serious injury, or damage.– Performance adjustments should only be made byprofessionals of the healthcare field or personsfully conversant with this process and the driver'scapabilities.

– After the wheelchair has been set up/adjusted, checkto make sure that the wheelchair performs to thespecifications entered during the set up procedure. Ifthe wheelchair does not perform to specifications,turn the wheelchair Off immediately and reenter setup specifications. Contact Invacare, if wheelchair stilldoes not perform to correct specifications.

WARNING!Risk of Serious Injury or DamageMoving the seating system from the factory setting mayreduce driver control, wheelchair stability, tractionand increase caster wear resulting in serious injury ordamage.– Move the seating system ONLY when necessary to fitthe wheelchair to the user.

– If the seating system must be moved, ALWAYS inspectthe wheelchair to ensure the front rigging DOES NOTinterfere with the front casters.

– If the seating system must be moved, ALWAYSinspect to ensure the wheelchair DOES NOT easilytip forward or backward.

DANGER!Risk of Death, Serious Injury or DamageOperating the wheelchairs outdoor or in areas of poorlighting may result in death, serious injury, or damage.Operating the wheelchair near motor vehicles may resultin death, serious injury or damage.– DO NOT operate on roads, streets or highways.– Use caution when operating the wheelchair outdoorsat night or in areas with poor lighting.

– ALWAYS be aware of motor vehicles when using thewheelchair.

WARNING!Risk of Minor to Serious InjuryPinch points can cause minor to serious injury.– Be mindful of potential pinch points and use cautionwhen using this product.

WARNING!Risk of Serious InjuryImpacting objects in the surrounding environment cancause serious injury.– When maneuvering the wheelchair around, ALWAYShave assured cleared distance with all objects inenvironment.

WARNING!Risk of Serious InjurySharp edges can cause serious injury.– Be mindful that some parts may have sharp edges. Usecaution when encountering these sharp edges.

WARNING!Risk of Serious InjuryHot surfaces can cause severe burns.– Be mindful of potential hot surfaces and avoid touching.

DANGER!Risk of Death, Serious Injury, or DamageLighted cigarettes dropped onto an upholstered seatingsystem can cause a fire resulting in death, serious injury,or damage.Wheelchair occupants are at particular risk of deathor serious injury from these fires and resulting fumesbecause they may not have the ability to move awayfrom the wheelchair.– DO NOT smoke while using this wheelchair.

1.3.2 Transport - Wheelchair Tie-Down Restraintsand Seat Restraints (TRRO or TRBKTS)

WARNING!Risk of Death, Serious Injury, or PropertyDamageFailure to observe the following transport warnings mayresult in death, serious injury, or property damage.

WARNING!– Only use the transport brackets included with TRROor TRBKTS for the purposes described in this manual.

– TRRO (Transport Ready Option) - TRRO includesfour factory-installed transport brackets and awheelchair anchored pelvic belt. TRRO has beencrash-tested in accordance with ANSI/RESNA WCVol 1 Section 19 Frontal Impact Test requirements forwheelchairs with a 130 lb (59 kg) crash test dummy,which corresponds to a person with a weight of 125lbs (57 kg) to 165 lbs (75 kg) for Junior seat sizes ora 168 lb (76 kg) crash dummy, which corresponds toa person with a weight of 165 lbs (75 kg) to 300 lbs(136 kg) for Adult seat sizes.

– TRBKTS (Wheelchair Transport Brackets) - TRBKTSincludes four factory-installed wheelchair transportbrackets. TRBKTS has not been crash-tested inaccordance with WC 19. Use these transportbrackets only to secure an unoccupied wheelchairduring transport.

WARNING!– As of this date, the Department of Transportation hasnot approved any tie-down systems for transportationof a user while in a wheelchair, in a moving vehicleof any type. It is Invacare’s position that users ofwheelchairs should be transferred into appropriateseating in vehicles for transportation and use bemade of the restraints made available by the autoindustry. Invacare cannot and does not recommendany wheelchair transportation systems.

– Battery support brackets MUST be installed at alltimes. Otherwise, the wheelchair will not be WC/19compliant. Refer to the Transport section in the baseuser manual that was shipped with the product formore information about transporting the wheelchair.

1.3.3 Stairways and Escalators

WARNING!– DO NOT attempt to move an occupied powerwheelchair between floors using a stairway. Use anelevator to move an occupied power wheelchairbetween floors.

– If moving a power wheelchair between floors by meansof a stairway, the occupant MUST be removed andtransported independently of the power wheelchair.

– Extreme caution is advised when it is necessary tomove an unoccupied power wheelchair up or downthe stairs. Invacare recommends using two assistantsand making thorough preparations. Make sure to useONLY secure, non-detachable parts for hand-holdsupports.

– DO NOT use an escalator to move a wheelchairbetween floors. Serious bodily injury may occur.

– DO NOT attempt to lift the wheelchair by anyremovable (detachable) parts. Lifting by means ofany removable (detachable) parts of a wheelchairmay result in injury to the user or damage to thewheelchair.

– The weight of the wheelchair varies depending on themodel. Refer to the Technical Data section of thismanual for the weight of the wheelchair. ALWAYSuse proper lifting techniques (lift with your legs) toavoid injury.

Follow this procedure for moving the wheelchair between floorswhen an elevator is NOT available:

When using a stairway to move the wheelchair and anyaccessories, move all wheelchair components away from thestairway prior to reassembly.

1. Remove the occupant from the wheelchair.2. Remove the batteries from wheelchair. Refer to Removing the

Batteries procedure in this manual.3. Bend your knees and keep your back straight.4. Using non-removable (non-detachable) parts of the wheelchair,

lift the wheelchair off of the ground and transfer the wheelchairup or down the stairs.

5. The wheelchair should not be lowered until the last stair hasbeen negotiated and the wheelchair has been carried away fromthe stairway.

2 Safety Handling

2.1 Safety/Handling“Safety and Handling” of the wheelchair requires the close attentionof the wheelchair user as well as the assistant. This manual pointsout the most common procedures and techniques involved in thesafe operation and maintenance of the wheelchair. It is important topractice and master these safe techniques until you are comfortablein maneuvering around the frequently encountered architecturalbarriers.

Use this information only as a “basic” guide. The techniques that arediscussed on the following pages have been used successfully by many.

Users and assistants must be aware that the handling andmaneuverability characteristics of front wheel drive wheelchairs areinherently different from center and rear wheel drive wheelchairs.Handling and maneuverability differences will be most noticeablewhen traveling down declines (Example: ramps and slopes) or overobstacles and rough terrain as this may shift the users center of massforward resulting in decreased stability. ALWAYS reduce speed andwear the seat positioning strap when driving under these conditions.

Individual wheelchair users often develop skills to deal with dailyliving activities that may differ from those described in this manual.Invacare recognizes and encourages each individual to try what worksbest for him/her in overcoming architectural obstacles that they mayencounter. However all warnings and cautions given in this manualMUST be followed. Techniques in this manual are a starting pointfor the new wheelchair user and assistant with “safety” as the mostimportant consideration for all.

Invacare strongly recommends that initial use of front wheel drivewheelchairs be supervised by an assistant.

DANGER!Risk of Death, Serious Injury, or DamageMisuse of the wheelchair may cause component failureand/or the wheelchair to start smoking, sparking, orburning. Death, serious injury, or damage may occurdue to fire.– DO NOT use the wheelchair other than its intendedpurpose. If the wheelchair starts smoking, sparking, orburning, discontinue using the wheelchair and seekservice IMMEDIATELY.

DANGER!Risk of Death or Serious InjuryNot wearing your seat positioning strap could result indeath or serious injury.– ALWAYS wear your seat positioning strap. Yourseat positioning strap helps reduce the possibilityof a fall from the wheelchair. The seat positioningstrap is a positioning belt only. It is not designed foruse as a safety device withstanding high stress loadssuch as auto or aircraft safety belts. If signs of wearappear, seat positioning strap MUST be replacedIMMEDIATELY.

WARNING!– DO NOT leave the power button On when enteringor exiting your wheelchair.

– DO NOT go up or down ramps or traverse slopesgreater than 9°.

– Never leave an unoccupied wheelchair unattended onan incline.

– Determine and establish your particular safety limits bypracticing bending, reaching and transferring activitiesin the presence of a qualified healthcare professionalbefore attempting active use of the wheelchair.

– Always shift your weight in the direction you areturning. Do not shift your weight in the oppositedirection of the turn. Shifting your weight in theopposite direction of the turn may cause the insidedrive wheel to lose traction and the wheelchair totip over.

– DO NOT shift your weight or sitting position towardthe direction you are reaching as the wheelchairand/or seating system (if any) may tip over.

– Always keep hands and fingers clear of moving partsto avoid injury.

– DO NOT use with a broken or missing joystick knob.– DO NOT use if joystick does not spring back to theneutral position or becomes sticky or sluggish.

– DO NOT use if joystick boot is torn or damaged.– Always check foam grips for looseness before usingthe wheelchair. If loose, contact a qualified technicianfor instructions.

WARNING!– DO NOT attempt to stop a moving wheelchair withthe wheel locks. Wheel locks are not brakes.

– DO NOT engage or disengage the motor locks untilthe power is in the off position.

– If wheelchair is equipped with pneumatic tires - DONOT use your wheelchair unless it has the propertire pressure (P.S.I.). DO NOT overinflate thetires. Failure to follow these recommendations maycause the tire to explode and cause bodily harm.The recommended tire pressure is 35 p.s.i. (24kilopascals). The recommended tire pressure is alsolisted on the side wall of the tire

WARNING!Risk of Serious Injury or DamageAccidental activation of wheelchair caused by pets,children, etc. can result in serious injury or damage.– ALWAYS turn power off when around pets and/orchildren to prevent unintended movement.

2.1.1 A Note to Wheelchair AssistantsWhen assistance to the wheelchair user is required, remember touse good body mechanics. Keep your back straight and bend yourknees whenever tilting wheelchair or traversing curbs or otherimpediments.

WARNING!– Also, be aware of detachable parts such as arms orlegrests. These MUST NEVER be used to move thewheelchair or as lifting supports, as they may beinadvertently released, resulting in possible injury tothe user and/or assistant(s).

When learning a new assistance technique, have an experiencedassistant help you before attempting it alone.

2.1.2 Stability Lock

DANGER!Risk of Death or Serious InjuryNot performing periodic maintenance on stability lockcould result in death or serious injury.– ALWAYS perform the periodic maintenance to thestability lock listed in the inspection checklist of thismanual.

2.1.3 Stability and BalanceTo assure stability and proper operation of your wheelchair, youMUST at all times maintain proper balance. Your wheelchair hasbeen designed to remain upright and stable during normal dailyactivities as long as you DO NOT move beyond the center of gravity.DO NOT lean forward out of the wheelchair any further than thelength of the armrests.

The drive behavior initially experienced by the user may be differentfrom other wheelchairs previously used. This power wheelchairhas Invacare’s SureStep® technology, a feature that provides thewheelchair with optimum traction and stability when driving forwardover transitions and thresholds. Refer to Coping with EverydayObstacles for maximum height of transitions and thresholds. Thefollowing warnings apply specifically to the SureStep feature:

WARNING!– To determine and establish your particular safetylimits, practice use of this product on various slopingsurfaces in the presence of a qualified healthcareprovider before attempting active use of thiswheelchair. Other general warnings listed within thisdocument also apply.

– ALWAYS reduce speed when traveling up or down anincline or over obstacles and rough terrain. Travelingunder these conditions may shift the users weightforward resulting in reduced stability.

WARNING!– DO NOT leave elevating legrests in the fully extendedposition when proceeding down ramps or slopes.

– Be aware that carrying heavy objects on your lapwhile occupying the wheelchair may adversely affectthe stability of the wheelchair, resulting in seriousbodily injury to the user, damage to the wheelchairand surrounding property.

WARNING!Risk of Injury or DamageThis wheelchair has been designed to accommodateone individual. If more than one individual occupiesthe wheelchair this may adversely affect the stability ofthe wheelchair, resulting in serious bodily injury to theuser and passenger and damage to the wheelchair andsurrounding property.– DO NOT have more than one individual occupy thewheelchair.

– DONOT have any one stand on the frame at any time.

2.1.4 Driving SurfacesYour power wheelchair has been designed to operate on dry, levelsurfaces (i.e. concrete, blacktop, and asphalt). Other acceptablesurfaces likely to be encountered include packed soil, grass, andgravel.

Avoid driving on the following surfaces:

• Uneven terrain, soft surfaces• Tall grass• Loose gravel and/or sand• Do not operate the wheelchair in any type or depth of water

(edges of streams, lakes, or oceans.)• If you approach an unfamiliar surface and feel uneasy about

driving on that surface, avoid that surface.

2.1.5 Coping with Everyday ObstaclesCoping with the irritation of everyday obstacles can be somewhatalleviated by learning how to manage your wheelchair. Keep in mindyour center of gravity to maintain stability and balance.

While the wheelchair is designed for use primarily in and aroundthe home, the provider should determine whether this wheelchairis suitable for the actual environment in which the wheelchair willbe used.

– ALWAYS stop before negotiating an obstacle.– Approach slowly until caster wheels are approximately18 inches (46 cm) away from the obstacle. Slowly applypower to move forward/reverse while negotiating theobstacle.

DANGER!Risk of Death or Serious InjuryTraveling down inclines in reverse could cause thewheelchair to tip over resulting in death or serious injury– DO NOT travel down inclines in reverse.

WARNING!Risk of Death or Serious InjuryBraking hard and/or sudden stops while on inclines couldcause loss of stability resulting in death or serious injury.– While on inclines, ALWAYS travel at a reduced,constant speed to maintain stability. Traveling downramps at high speeds will reduce traction and increasestopping distance.

– DO NOT brake hard and avoid sudden stops whiletraveling on an incline.

– If stopping becomes necessary while on an incline,release the joystick and allow the wheelchair to cometo a full stop. Then proceed at a slower speed.

WARNING!Risk of Death or Serious InjuryDriving in an elevated position while on an incline couldcause loss of stability resulting in death or serious injury.– DO NOT drive in an elevated position while on anincline.

2.1.7 Pinch Points

WARNING!Risk of InjuryPinch Point– Be aware that a pinch point exists between head tubecap A and walking beam B.

– Be aware that a pinch point exist between walkingbeam/head tube cap and telescoping tube C when thewheelchair is at the lowest seat to floor height.

– Be aware that a pinch point may occur when rotatingthe center mount front rigging assembly D.

2.1.8 Footplates and Front Rigging

WARNING!Risk of Serious Injury or DamageOperating the wheelchair with a ground clearance ofless than 75 mm (3 inches) between the footplates andthe ground/floor may cause serious injury or propertydamage.– ALWAYS maintain a minimum of 75 mm (3inches) between the bottom of the footplates andground/floor to ensure proper ground clearance whilethe wheelchair is in motion. If necessary, adjust thefootplates height to achieve proper ground clearance.After footplates height adjustment, if the wheelchairdips forward and the footplates touch the groundwhile in motion, please contact your dealer for aninspection and avoid use of the wheelchair if possible.

2.1.9 Reaching, Leaning and Bending - ForwardMany activities require the wheelchair user to reach, bend andtransfer in and out of the wheelchair. These movements will causea change to the normal balance, center of gravity, and weightdistribution of the wheelchair. To determine and establish yourparticular safety limits, practice bending, reaching and transferringactivities in several combinations in the presence of a qualifiedhealthcare professional before attempting active use of the wheelchair

WARNING!Risk of Serious Injury or DamageImproper positioning while leaning or bending couldcause the wheelchair to tip forward resulting in seriousinjury or damage.– To assure stability and proper operation of yourwheelchair, you MUST at all times maintain properbalance. Your wheelchair has been designed to remainupright and stable during normal daily activities as longas you DO NOT move beyond the center of gravity.DO NOT lean forward out of the wheelchair anyfurther than the length of the armrests.

– DO NOT attempt to reach objects if you have tomove forward in the seat or pick them up from thefloor by reaching down between your knees.

Engage motor locks and turn power off before reaching, leaning orbending only as far as your arm will extend without changing yoursitting position. Position the casters so that they are extended awayfrom the drive wheels and engage wheel locks/motor locks/clutches.

2.1.10 Reaching, Bending - Backward

WARNING!Risk of Serious Injury or DamageLeaning backward over the top of the seat back willchange your center of gravity and may cause you to tipover resulting in serious injury or damage.– Proper positioning is essential for your safety. DONOT lean over the top of the seat back.

Position wheelchair as close as possible to the desired object.Position the casters so that they are extended away from the drivewheels to create the longest possible wheelbase, engage the motorlocks and turn power off. Reach back only as far as your arm willextend without changing your sitting position.

2.1.11 Transferring To and From Other Seats

– Align casters parallel to the drive wheels to improvestability during transfer.

Adequate mobility and upper body strength is required toperform this activity independently.

Leakage current has been tested in accordance to ISO7176–14:2008.

Invacare has tested its power wheelchairs in accordancewith RESNA Section 9 “Rain Test”.

2.1.14 Electrical - BatteriesThe warranty and performance specifications contained in this manualare based on the use of deep cycle gel sealed batteries. Invacarestrongly recommends their use as the power source for this unit.

Carefully read battery/battery charger information prior to installing,servicing or operating your wheelchair.

WARNING!Risk of Serious Injury or DamageDropping the battery can result in serious injury orproperty damage.– Batteries can weigh up to 52 lbs (23.6 kg). ALWAYSuse a battery lifting strap when lifting the battery. Itis the most reliable method of carrying a battery andpreventing serious injury.

2.1.15 Electrical - Charging Batteries

2.1.16 Recycling Batteries

Lead acid batteries are almost entirely recyclable. Discarding thesebatteries in the trash is considered “improper disposal” and is illegalin most states. Old, used batteries are “hazardous material” andMUST be recycled through an approved agency. Contact your dealeror Invacare on proper disposal and recycling of your batteries.

2.1.17 Weight Training

WARNING!– Invacare DOES NOT recommend the use of itswheelchairs as a weight training apparatus. Invacarewheelchairs have NOT been designed or tested asa seat for any kind of weight training. If occupantuses said wheelchair as a weight training apparatus,Invacare shall NOT be liable for bodily injury and thewarranty is void.

2.1.18 Weight Capacity

WARNING!– Refer to Technical Data section in this manual todetermine the weight limit (total combined weight ofuser and any attachments) of your wheelchair model.

2.1.19 Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) FromRadio Wave Sources

Powered wheelchairs and motorized scooters (in this text, bothwill be referred to as powered wheelchairs) may be susceptibleto electromagnetic interference (EMI), which is interferingelectromagnetic energy (EM) emitted from sources such as radiostations, TV stations, amateur radio (HAM) transmitters, two wayradios, and cellular phones. The interference (from radio wavesources) can cause the powered wheelchair to release its brakes,move by itself, or move in unintended directions. It can alsopermanently damage the powered wheelchair's control system. Theintensity of the interfering EM energy can be measured in voltsper meter (V/m). Each powered wheelchair can resist EMI up to acertain intensity. This is called its "immunity level." The higher theimmunity level, the greater the protection. At this time, currenttechnology is capable of achieving at least a 20 V/m immunity level,which would provide useful protection from the more commonsources of radiated EMI.

There are a number of sources of relatively intense electromagneticfields in the everyday environment. Some of these sources areobvious and easy to avoid. Others are not apparent and exposureis unavoidable. However, we believe that by following the warningslisted below, your risk to EMI will be minimized.

The sources of radiated EMI can be broadly classified into three types:

1. Hand-held Portable transceivers (transmitters/receivers with theantenna mounted directly on the transmitting unit. Examplesinclude: citizens band (CB) radios, “walkie talkie”, security, fireand police transceivers, cellular telephones, and other personalcommunication devices).

Some cellular telephones and similar devices transmitsignals while they are ON, even when not being used.

2. Medium-range mobile transceivers, such as those used in policecars, fire trucks, ambulances and taxis. These usually have theantenna mounted on the outside of the vehicle.

3. Long-range transmitters and transceivers, such as commercialbroadcast transmitters (radio and TV broadcast antenna towers)and amateur (HAM) radios.

Other types of handheld devices, such as cordless phones,laptop computers, AM/FM radios, TV sets, CD players,cassette players, and small appliances, such as electricshavers and hair dryers, so far as we know, are not likely tocause EMI problems to your powered wheelchair.

2.1.20 Powered Wheelchair ElectromagneticInterference (EMI)

Because EM energy rapidly becomes more intense as one movescloser to the transmitting antenna (source), the EM fields fromhandheld radio wave sources (transceivers) are of special concern.It is possible to unintentionally bring high levels of EM energy veryclose to the powered wheelchair's control system while using thesedevices. This can affect powered wheelchair movement and braking.Therefore, the warnings listed below are recommended to preventpossible interference with the control system of the poweredwheelchair.

Electromagnetic interference (EMI) from sources such as radio andTV stations, amateur radio (HAM) transmitters, two-way radios,and cellular phones can affect powered wheelchairs and motorizedscooters.

FOLLOWING THE WARNINGS LISTED BELOW SHOULDREDUCE THE CHANCE OF UNINTENDED BRAKE RELEASE ORPOWERED WHEELCHAIR MOVEMENT WHICH COULD RESULTIN SERIOUS INJURY.

WARNING!– DO NOT operate handheld transceivers (transmittersreceivers), such as citizens band (CB) radios, or turnON personal communication devices, such as cellularphones, while the powered wheelchair is turned ON;

– Be aware of nearby transmitters, such as radio or TVstations, and try to avoid coming close to them;

– If unintended movement or brake release occurs, turnthe powered wheelchair OFF as soon as it is safe;

5.1 Preparing the Joystick for Use

5.2 Turning the Power On/Off

5.3 Using the Joystick to Drive the WheelchairThe joystick is located on the joystick housing and provides smoothcontrol of speed and direction. It is equipped with 360 degrees ofmobility for ease of operation. The joystick is spring-loaded, andautomatically returns to the upright (neutral) position when released.Pushing the joystick in a given direction causes the wheelchair tomove in that direction.

The joystick has proportional drive control, meaning that the furtherit is pushed from the upright (neutral) position, the faster thewheelchair moves. The maximum speed, however, is limited by thesetting of the speed-control knob.

To slow the wheelchair to a stop, simply release the joystick. Thewheelchair has automatic speed and direction compensation tominimize corrections.

When first learning to drive, select a slow speed and try to drivethe wheelchair as slowly as possible by pushing the joystick slightlyforward. This exercise will help you learn to utilize the full potentialof the proportional control and allow you to start and stop smoothly.

To drive the wheelchair, perform the following:

1. Adjust speed control knob to the appropriate setting.2. Turn the power On. Refer to Turning the Power On/Off.3. Maneuver the joystick in the following manner:

5.4.1 On/Off ButtonThe On/Off button A is located at the front of the joystick housing.It is used to turn the wheelchair On and Off.

5.4.2 SpeedometerThe speedometer B is used to show the maximum speed. Theright-most LED indicates current maximum speed setting. The

bottom left GREEN LED G flashes to indicate that the joystick isin speed limit mode. Speed limit mode limits the drive speed to apre-programmed value, typically when the seat has been elevated andthe wheelchair is required to drive at 20% speed.

5.4.3 Speed Control ButtonsThe speed control buttons C [tortoise button ( ) and hare button

( )] are used to set and adjust the maximum speed.

1. To adjust the speed, perform one of the following:• Adjust Speed in 20% Increments (5 Speed Mode) -

Press the tortoise button ( ) or hare button ( ) todecrease/increase the speed in 20% increments. The largerbars in the speedometer will light.

• Adjust Speed in Smaller Increments (VSP Mode) - Performthe following steps:

a. Press and hold both the tortoise button ( ) and hare

button ( ) until the joystick beeps.b. Perform one of the following:

– Press the tortoise button ( ) or hare button ( )to decrease/increase the speed in 20% increments.The larger bars in the speedometer will light.

– Press and hold the tortoise button ( ) or hare

button ( ) to decrease/increase the speedin smaller increments. The smaller bars in thespeedometer will light.

5.4.4 JoystickThe joystick D has proportional drive control, meaning that thefurther the joystick is pushed from the upright (neutral) position, thefaster the wheelchair or seat moves. Your top speed, however, islimited by the programmed settings.


5.4.5 Charger/Programming InputThe charger/programming input E is located at the front ofthe joystick housing. This provides easy access for chargingthe wheelchair batteries. This port also serves as the RemoteProgrammer Communication connection. Driving is prevented whilethe system is charging.

5.4.6 Information Gauge DisplayThe information gauge display F is located on the front of thejoystick housing and provides the following information to the useron the status of the wheelchair:

1. Power is On.2. True state-of-battery-charge, including notification of when the

battery requires charging:• Green LEDs are lit, indicating well charged batteries.• Amber LEDs are lit, indicating batteries are moderately

charged. Recharge batteries before taking a long trip.• Red LEDs are lit, indicating batteries are running out of

charge. Recharge batteries as soon as possible.

The Information Gauge display also serves as a systemdiagnostic device when a fault is detected by the controlmodule. A specific number of flashes of the LEDs indicatethe type of fault detected.

Refer to Information Gauge Display Diagnostics for thediagnostic indications of the wheelchair status.

5.4.7 Service IndicatorThe AMBER service indicator ( ) will light when an error or faultoccurs.

5.5 CMPJ+ Joystick, Switches and Indicators

5.5.1 On/Off - Drive Select Toggle Switch (CMPJ+Joystick)

The drive select toggle switch A is located on the left side, belowthe LCD. The drive select position is momentary, meaning that it willreturn to the neutral position after a selection is made.

This switch allows the operator to select the type of operationor performance which best suits a particular control need orsituation. The DRIVE 1 program uses performance values which areindependent of those used for the DRIVE 2 or 3 or 4 program. As anexample, an operator may have a control need for spasticity in themorning and a very different need in the afternoon. DRIVE 1 can beprogrammed for higher speeds and quicker response while DRIVE

2 can be programmed for slower speeds and less responsivenessor vise versa. The other two drive programs could be indoor andoutdoor versions of DRIVE 1 and DRIVE 2.

Selecting the Drive Mode

1. Move the toggle up and release. DRIVE 1 will appear on LCD.2. Move the toggle up and release again. DRIVE 2 will appear on

LCD.3. Move the toggle up and release again. DRIVE 3 will appear on

LCD.4. Move the toggle up and release again. DRIVE 4 will appear on

LCD.5. Move the toggle up and release one more time to select DRIVE 1.

5.5.2 Speed ControlThe speed control knob B is located on the side of the joystickhousing.

1. Rotate the knob clockwise (forward) to increase the speed ofthe wheelchair to the programmed max speed.

2. Rotate the knob counterclockwise (backward) to decrease thespeed of the wheelchair to the programmed max speed.

5.5.3 JoystickThe joystick C has proportional drive control, meaning that thefurther the joystick is pushed from the upright (neutral) position, thefaster the wheelchair or seat moves. Your top speed, however, islimited by the programmed settings.


5.5.4 Charger/Programming InputThe charger/programming input D is located at the front ofthe joystick housing. This provides easy access for charging

the wheelchair batteries. This port also serves as the RemoteProgrammer Communication connection. Driving is prevented whilethe system is charging.

5.5.5 LCD Display ScreensThe LCD Display E is located in front of the joystick and providesinformation on the status of the wheelchair through a backlit display.The LCD display is readable in both bright sunlight and completedarkness.

Splash Screen

This screen is displayed at startup of the joystick for about 2 seconds.This screen displays the software version and date information.

After this screen, the joystick displays the Main Screen.

Battery charge level is shown in the BatteryGauge Display (BGD) located on the right side of the LCD display. Atfull charge, solid blocks fill in all ten segments between E (Empty) andF (Full). As the battery becomes discharged, the top most segmentswill progressively disappear until no segments appear between Eand F. At this level, the user should charge the batteries as soonas possible.

The lower half of the LCD display is the Information Center. TheInformation Center displays current data on the wheelchair.

5.5.7 CMPJ+ Joystick - Programmable Mono Ports 1and 2 with External Mode Switch

The programmable mono port with external mode switch input islocated at the rear of the joystick on the left side. The programmablemono port input offers the choice of three options:

• Remote drive select• Remote stop/mode (reset) input• Single actuator input

The single switch functions operate through mono port 1. Anoptional y-cable allows a second programmable function throughmono port 2.

Remote Stop Switch

he remote reset switch may be used to stop the wheelchair if thewheelchair is in motion.

The remote reset switch also functions in the same way as thejoystick mode switch when the wheelchair is not in motion. Refer toMode Switch (CMPJ+ Joystick).

5.5.8 Remote On/Off SwitchThe remote On/Off switch input is located at the rear of the joystickon the right side and allows the power switch to be operated by anability switch (normally open momentary switch with mono plug).To use the remote On/Off feature, the Drive Select/On/Off switchmust be in the On position. Each activation of the ability switch willalternately turn the joystick On or Off.

5.5.9 Mode Switch (CMPJ+ Joystick)The mode switch [CMPJ+ Joystick G] is used to select the operatingmode for the wheelchair. The mode switch is located on the joystick.A mode switch is needed whenever any of the following operatingmodes are programmed:

*In these modes, Standby Select allows the reset switch tobe bypassed for users unable to activate the switch.

5.5.10 Memory Card SlotThe memory card slot is used with the basic or professional memorycard for saving or reading wheelchair parameters.

5.6 When to Charge BatteriesKeep Batteries charged. When possible, DO NOT allowbattery charge to empty.

If battery charge becomes so low that no battery indicatorsare lit, allow the batteries to charge overnight.

5.6.1 SPJ+, SPJ+ w/PSS and SPJ+ w/ACC JoysticksThe Information Gauge Display located on the front of the joystickhousing, it provides the state-of-battery charge, including notificationof when the battery requires charging. It also provides the followinginformation to the user on the status of the wheelchair:

• Green LEDs are lit, indicating well charged batteries.• Amber LEDs are lit, indicating batteries are moderately charged.

Recharge batteries before taking a long trip.• Red LEDs are lit, indicating batteries are running out of charge.

Recharge batteries as soon as possible.

5.6.2 CMPJ+ Joystick

The far right side of the display screenA is the Battery Gauge DisplayB. It provides information on the remaining charge in the batteries.

At full charge, solid blocks fill in battery gauge. As the batterybecomes discharged, the segments will progressively disappearstarting on the right and moving towards the left a bar at a timeuntil no segments appear. At this level the user should charge thebatteries as soon as possible.

5.7 Charging Batteries

WARNING!– Never attempt to recharge the batteries by attachingcables directly to the battery terminals or clamps.Always use the recharging plug located on the frontof the joystick.

– DO NOT sit in the wheelchair while charging thebatteries.

– DO NOT attempt to recharge the batteries andoperate the power wheelchair at the same time.

– During use and charging, unsealed batteries willvent hydrogen gas which is explosive in the rightconcentration with air.

New batteries MUST be fully charged prior to initial useof the wheelchair.

As a general rule, batteries should be recharged daily toassure the longest possible life and minimize the requiredcharging time. Plan to recharge the batteries when it isanticipated the wheelchair will not be used for a long periodof time.

The range per battery charge using recommended batteries shouldbe approximately 5 to 9 hours of typical operation. Extensive use oninclines may substantially reduce per charge mileage.

5.7.1 Description and Use of Battery ChargersThe charger automatically reduces the charge from an initially highrate to a zero reading at a fully charged condition. If left unattended,the charger should automatically shut-off when full charge is obtainedor enter a trickle charge mode to maintain the batteries dependingon charger model.

There are some basic concepts which will help you understand thisautomatic process. They are:

Once the charger has been connected to the wheelchair and walloutlet and, if necessary, the charger has been turned on, the batterycharger indicator lights will flash and light to show the battery chargerstatus and condition of batteries to be charged. Refer to owner’smanual shipped with battery charger.

WARNING!– NEVER leave the charger unattended when thebreaker has tripped. A fault condition exists. Unplugand discontinue using immediately. Contact anInvacare dealer.

If performing the charging procedures, READ andCAREFULLY follow the individual instructions for eachcharger (supplied or purchased).

If charging instructions are not supplied, consult a qualifiedservice technician for proper procedures.

Allow eight hours for normal charging. Larger batteries(greater than 55 ampere-hours) or severely dischargedbatteries may require up to sixteen hours to be properlycharged and equalized.

It is advantageous to recharge frequently rather than onlywhen necessary. In fact, a battery’s life is extended if thecharge level is maintained well above a low condition.

If the batteries need to be charged more often or takelonger to charge than normal, they may need to be replaced.Contact an Invacare dealer for service.

If the pins on the engagement knob are not in the free wheeldetents, the engagement knobs can engage the motorsunexpectedly while the wheelchair is being pushed.

1. Pull out on engagement knob A and rotate approximately 1/6turn until the pins B of the engagement knob fall into the freewheel detents C of the wheel hub D.

2. Repeat STEP 1 for opposite wheel.

6 Transport Ready Option(TRRO)

6.1 About Transport Ready Packages

WARNING!– This section applies only to wheelchairs equipped withTRRO (Transport Ready Option).

– Contact Invacare Corporation (800-333-6900) withany questions about using this wheelchair for seatingin a motor vehicle.

– When feasible, wheelchair occupants should transferinto the vehicle seat and use the OEM (OriginalEquipment Manufacturer) vehicle-installed restraintsystem.

– This wheelchair has been dynamically tested in aforward-facing mode with the specified crash testdummy restrained by BOTH pelvic and upper-torsobelt(s) (shoulder belts), and that BOTH pelvic andupper torso belt(s) should be used to reduce thepossibility of head and chest impacts with vehiclecomponents.

– Use ONLY Wheelchair Tie-down and OccupantRestraint Systems (WTORS) which meet therequirements of the SAE (Society of AutomotiveEngineers) J2249 Recommended Practice during travelin a motor vehicle.

– This wheelchair has been tested for seating in a motorvehicle with the factory installed seating system only.

– This wheelchair MUST be in a forward facing positionduring travel in a motor vehicle.

– This wheelchair is equipped, and has been dynamicallytested to rely on WHEELCHAIR-ANCHORED pelvic

belts. If desired, vehicle-anchored pelvic belts may beused.

WARNING!– IT IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED THAT BOTHPELVIC AND UPPER-TORSO BELT(S) BE USED TOREDUCE THE RISK OF INJURY.

– To reduce the potential of injury to vehicle occupants,wheelchair-mounted accessories, including but notlimited to IV poles, trays, respiratory equipment,backpacks, and other personal items should beremoved and secured separately.

– Postural supports, positioning devices, and/orstrap(s) should not be relied on for occupantrestraint. These items may be used in addition to thewheelchair-anchored or vehicle-anchored belts.

– Seat angle is factory set at time of shipment.Adjustments to the wheelchair may void ANSI/RESNAWC/Vol. 1– Section 19 compliance. To maintaincompliance, refer to wheelchair service manual beforemaking any adjustments.

– DO NOT alter or substitute wheelchair frame parts,components, or seating systems.

– A sudden stop and/or collision may structurallydamage your wheelchair. Wheelchairs involved insuch incidents should be replaced.

– Spill proof batteries, such as “gel sealed”, should beinstalled on wheelchairs to be used during travel in amotor vehicle.

– Transport ready packages are not retrofittable toexisting models and are not field serviceable.

Transport Ready Option(TRRO)

ANSI = American National Standards Institute, RESNA=Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology Societyof North America.

TRRO includes four factory-installed transport brackets and awheelchair anchored pelvic belt. TRRO has been crash-tested inaccordance with ANSI/RESNA WC Vol 1 Section 19 Frontal ImpactTest requirements for wheelchairs with a 130 lb (59 kg) crash testdummy, which corresponds to a person with a weight of 125 lb (57kg) to 165 lb (75 kg) for Junior seat sizes or a 168 lb (76 kg) crashdummy, which corresponds to a person with a weight of 165 lb (75kg) to 300 lbs (136 kg) for Adult seat sizes.

As of this date, the Department of Transportation has not approvedany tie-down systems for transportation of a user while in awheelchair, in a moving vehicle of any type. It is Invacare’s positionthat users of wheelchairs should be transferred into appropriateseating in vehicles for transportation and use be made of therestraints made available by the auto industry. Invacare cannot anddoes not recommend any wheelchair transportation system.

6.2 Compliance InformationThis wheelchair conforms with the requirements of the ANSI/RESNAWC/Vol. 1 - Section 19 (Frontal Impact Test)

6.4 Positioning the Wheelchair in the Vehicle

WARNING!– This wheelchair MUST be in a forward facing positionduring travel in a motor vehicle.

– The recommended clear zones for wheelchair seatedoccupants restrained by both pelvic and upper torsobelt(s) and only by a pelvic belt are shown in thediagrams and described below.

– Frontal Clear Zones (FCZ) need to be LARGER whenupper torso belt(s) are NOT used.

– The rear clear zone of 16 inches (41 cm) is measuredfrom the rearmost point on an occupant’s head.

– The frontal clear zone is measured from the frontmostpoint on an occupant’s head and is 26 inches (66 cm)with pelvic and upper-torso belt(s) and 37 inches (94cm) with ONLY a pelvic belt.

– The frontal clear zone may not be achievable forwheelchair-seated drivers.

The pelvic belt provided by Invacare has been designed toaccommodate use on either side of the vehicle. If necessary, followthe instructions below to reverse the orientation of the pelvic belt toaccommodate the vehicle-anchored upper torso belt.

– Steeper side-view pelvic belt angles are especiallyimportant if the pelvic belt is intended to be used forpostural support in addition to occupant restraint in afrontal crash. Steeper angles will reduce the tendencyfor a vertical gap to develop between the user andthe belt due to compliance of seat cushions and beltmovement, thereby reducing the tendency for theuser to slip under the belt and for the belt to ride upon the soft abdomen during normal use

– Steeper belt angles also reduce the tendency forupper-torso belts to pull the pelvic belt onto theabdomen during frontal impact loading.

7 Setup and Maintenance

7.1 Setup/Delivery InspectionSetup/delivery inspection should be performed by dealer attime of delivery/set up.

Initial adjustments should be made to suit your personalbody structure needs and preference. Thereafter weekly,monthly and periodic inspections should be performed byuser/attendant between the six month service inspections.

Every six months, and as necessary, take your wheelchair toa qualified technician for a thorough inspection and servicing.

q Check all parts for shipping damage. In case of damage, DONOT use.

q Ensure wheelchair rolls straight (no excessive drag or pull toone side).

q Ensure clothing guards are secure.q Ensure arms are secure but easy to release and adjustment

levers engage properly.q Ensure adjustable height arms operate and lock securely.q Ensure axle nut or bolt and wheel mounting nuts are secure

on drive wheels.q Ensure caster/anti-tipper wheels are free of debris, and all

mounting hardware is secure and not damaged/missing.q Check that cables are routed and secured properly to ensure

that cables do NOT become entangled and damaged duringnormal operation of seating system.

q Ensure proper operation of powered functions (Example: drive,seating and legrests).

7.2 User/Attendant Inspection ChecklistsEvery six months, and as necessary, take your wheelchair toa qualified technician for a thorough inspection and servicing.

Weekly, monthly, and periodic inspections should beperformed by user/attendant between the six month serviceinspections.

Regular cleaning will reveal loose or worn parts and enhancethe smooth operation of your wheelchair. To operateproperly and safely, your wheelchair MUST be cared for justlike any other vehicle. Routine maintenance will extend thelife and efficiency of your wheelchair.

CAUTION!– As with any vehicle, the wheels and tires should bechecked periodically for cracks and wear and shouldbe replaced.

7.2.1 Inspect/Adjust Weeklyq Ensure that the casters are free of debris.q Inspect tires for flat spots and wear.q Inspect all fasteners.q Inspect TRBKTS fasteners and hardware.q Ensure proper operation of powered functions (Example: drive,

seating and legrests).

one side).• Inspect all operator (user/attendant) adjustable fasteners

including the back pan, back cane and angle adjustment fasteners,and the arm support, flip back and height adjustment fasteners.Ensure fasteners are securely tightened.

7.3 Service InspectionEvery six months take your wheelchair to a qualifiedtechnician for a thorough inspection and servicing.

Service inspections MUST be performed by a qualifiedtechnician.

WARNING!– After ANY adjustments, repair or service and beforeuse, make sure that all attaching hardware is tightenedsecurely - otherwise injury or damage may result.

CAUTION!– As with any vehicle, the wheels and tires should bechecked periodically for cracks and wear and shouldbe replaced.

The following are recommended items to inspect during regularservice inspections performed by a qualified technician. Actual itemsto be inspected during the service inspection may vary accordingto the specific wheelchair:

7.3.1 Six Month Inspection

DANGER!Risk of Death, Serious Injury, or DamageFailure to complete the inspection of the criticalcomponents listed below could result in death or seriousinjury.– Inspect stability control components which couldinclude anti-dive spring, anti-dive cylinder, ratchetinggears, or end stops to ensure proper operation.

7.4 Cleaning

CAUTION!Risk of DamageSpraying the wheelchair with water or any type of liquidmay permanently damage the electronics.– NEVER spray the wheelchair with any type of wateror liquid.

Regular cleaning will reveal loose or worn parts and enhancethe smooth operation of your wheelchair. To operateproperly and safely, your wheelchair must be cared for justlike any other vehicle.

For upholstery that is severely stained or surface finish thatis badly damaged, contact Invacare for further information.

7.4.1 Cleaning Upholstery, Cloth, VinylLukewarm water and a mild non-abrasive soap should be used toclean the upholstery. Wipe off surface with dry cloth. Repeat asnecessary to remove persistent stains.

If necessary, remove cover to aid in cleaning.

7.4.2 Cleaning Metal SurfacesHot water and a mild detergent on soft cloth should be used forcleaning metal surfaces. Wipe down with damp cloth. Dry surfaceby wiping down with dry cloth.

Car polish and soft wax can be used to remove abrasions and restoregloss (Follow manufacturer’s instructions).

7.4.3 Cleaning Plastic SurfacesPlastic surfaces should be cleaned with soft cloth, mild detergent, andhot water. Rinse surface with clean water. Dry surface with softcloth. Solvents or kitchen cleaners MUST not be used on plasticsurfaces.

7.5 Removing/Installing the Shrouds

CAUTION!– Place the wheelchair in a well ventilated area wherework can be performed without risking damage tocarpeting or floor covering.

7.5.1 Removing the Rear Shroud

1. Verify the joystick On/Off switch is in the Off position.2. Remove the three mounting screw A securing the rear shroud

B to the wheelchair.3. Remove the rear shroud from the wheelchair D.

7.5.2 Installing the Rear Shroud

1. Install the rear shroud B and secure in place with mountingscrew(s) A.

New Batteries MUST be fully charged before using,otherwise the life of the battery(ies) will be reduced.

7.5.3 Removing/Installing the Front Shroud/BatteryRetention Bracket

1. Remove the mounting screws F securing the frontshroud/battery retention bracket to the wheelchair frame D.

2. Lift up to unhook the front shroud/battery retention bracketfrom the base frame and remove.

Installing

CAUTION!– Wheelchairs with TRRO or TRBKTS Only - Batteryretention brackets MUST be installed at all times.Otherwise, the wheelchair will not be WC/19compliant.

When performing STEP 1, ensure that the tabs G located onthe sides of the front shroud/battery retention bracket Care positioned on the hooks E located on the front of thewheelchair frame D.

1. Reinstall the front shroud/battery retention bracket onto frontof wheelchair frame.

2. Secure the front shroud/battery retention bracket C to thewheelchair frame D with two mounting screws F. Securelytighten.

3. Gently, pull on the front shroud to ensure the mounting screwsare fully engaged into the battery box.

4. Wheelchairs with Footboards Only: Using the mounting screwH and washer I, secure the footboard support J to thewheelchair frame.

7.6 Batteries

WARNING!– Invacare strongly recommends that battery installationand battery replacement always be done by a qualifiedtechnician.

– The use of rubber gloves is recommended whenworking with batteries.

– After ANY adjustments, repair or service and beforeuse, make sure all attaching hardware is tightenedsecurely - otherwise injury or damage may result.

– When lifting batteries, use proper lifting techniques(lift with your legs) to avoid injury. Refer to TechnicalData for battery weight.

– DO NOT tip the batteries. Keep the batteries in anupright position.

– When tightening the clamps, always use a box wrench.Pliers will “round off” the nuts. NEVER wiggle thebattery terminal(s)/post(s) when tightening. Thebattery may become damaged.

– Unless otherwise indicated, make sure power tothe wheelchair is OFF before performing theseprocedures.

2. Cut the tie-wraps A that secure the battery terminal covers Bto the battery terminals.

3. Slide the RED battery terminal cover back on the red batterycable to expose the POSITIVE battery terminal C.

4. Slide the BLACK battery terminal cover back on the Blackbattery cable to expose NEGATIVE battery terminal D.

WARNING!– NEVER allow any of your tools and/or batterycable(s) to contact BOTH battery post(s) at thesame time. An electrical short may occur andserious personal injury or damage may occur.

5. Remove the locknut E that secures the bracket F of thePOSITIVE battery cable to the POSITIVE (+) battery post of thebattery.

6. Remove the locknut G that secures the NEGATIVE batterycable H to the NEGATIVE (-) battery post of the battery.

7. Discard the existing battery.8. Position battery connector bracket I or wiring harness J onto

the new 22NF battery or GP24 battery as shown.9. Secure the NEGATIVE battery cable H to the NEGATIVE (-)

battery post with existing mounting screw K and locknut G.10. Secure the bracket F of the POSITIVE battery cable to the

POSITIVE (+) battery post with existing mounting screw L andlocknut E.

11. Position each battery terminal cover over top of each batteryterminal.

12. Secure battery terminal covers in place with one tie-wrap.13. Install batteries into wheelchair. Refer to 7.8 Removing/Installing

the Batteries From/Into the Wheelchair.

7.9.1 Cleaning Battery Terminals

WARNING!– Most batteries are not sold with instructions.However, warnings are frequently noted on the cellcaps. Read them carefully.

– DO NOT allow the liquid in the battery to come incontact with skin, clothes or other possessions. It isa form of acid and harmful or damaging burns mayresult. Should the liquid touch your skin, wash thearea IMMEDIATELY and thoroughly with cool water.In serious cases or if eye contact is made, seek medicalattention IMMEDIATELY.

1. Examine battery terminals for corrosion.2. Verify the plastic caps are in place over battery cell holes.

3. Clean terminals by using a battery cleaning tool, wire brush, ormedium grade sand paper.

Upon completion, areas should be shiny, not dull.

4. Carefully dust off all metal particles.

7.10 Adjusting Forks

This procedure must be performed by a qualified technician.

This procedure applies to both Forks.

1. Remove the retaining screw A securing the head tube coverB in place.

2. Remove the head tube cover (not shown) from the caster headtube C.

3. To properly tighten caster journal system and guard againstflutter, perform the following check:

a. Tip the wheelchair forward, toward the floor.b. Pivot both forks D and casters Eto top of their arc

simultaneously.c. Let casters drop to bottom of arc (wheels should swing once

to one-side, then immediately rest in a straight downwardposition).

d. Adjust locknuts F according to freedom of caster swing.

4. Test wheelchair for maneuverability.5. Readjust locknuts if necessary, and repeat STEPS 1-3 until

correct.6. Snap headtube cover into the caster headtube.7. Reinstall retaining screws.

7.11 Removing/Installing the Footboard orAdjusting the Footboard Height

WARNING!– After ANY adjustments, repair or service and beforeuse, make sure that all attaching hardware is tightenedsecurely - otherwise injury or damage may result.

– Before performing any maintenance, adjustment orservice, verify that ON/OFF switch on the joystick isin the OFF position.

– do not stand on the flip-up footboard. When gettingin or out of the wheelchair, make sure that the flip-upfootboard is in the upward position.

WARNING!– LIMITED CLEARANCE BETWEENFOOTBOARD AND CASTER - The user’s feetmust remain on the footboard while operating thewheelchair. If the user’s feet are allowed to rest offthe side of the footboard they may come in contactwith the caster possibly resulting in injury.

Removing the Footboard

1. Remove the socket head screw A, three washersB, spacer Cand locknut D that secures the footboard E to the footboardsupport F.

2. Remove the footboard from the footboard support.

1. Position the footboard onto the footboard support so that themounting holes in the wheelchair frame align with the desiredmounting holes in the footboard support.

2. Using the socket heat screw, three washers, spacer and locknutsecure the footboard to the footboard support.

Adjusting the Footboard Height

1. Remove the footboard. Refer to Removing the Footboard.2. Adjust the footboard to one of two mounting holes in the

footboard support to adjust the footboard height by 1 inch.3. Install the footboard. Refer to Installing the footboard

7.12 Adjusting the Footboard Angle

1. Loosen the jam nut and set screw located underneath on therear of the footplate.

2. Adjust the mounting screw in or out to obtain the desiredfootboard angle.

3. Thread the jam nut inward until it is flush with the footboardbracket.

4. Securely tighten the jam nut and washer to secure the mountingscrew in place.

7.13 Repositioning Joystick

1. Turn the adjustment lock lever A to release the joystickmounting tube B from the joystick mounting bracket C.

2. Remove the joystick from the wheelchair.3. Remove the three hex screwsD and washersE that secures the

joystick mounting bracket to the threaded mounting bracket F.4. Reposition threaded mounting bracket on the inside of the

opposite arm tube G as shown.5. Using the three hex mounting screws and washers, secure

joystick mounting bracket to the threaded mounting bracket.6. Slide the joystick mounting tube through the joystick mounting

bracket to the desired position.7. Turn the adjustment lock lever to secure the joystick mounting

tube into the mounting bracket.

8.3 Checking Battery Charge LevelThe following “Do’s” and “Don’ts” are provided for your convenienceand safety.

DON’T DO

Don’t perform any installationor maintenance without firstreading this manual.

Read and understand thismanual and any serviceinformation that accompaniesa battery and charger beforeoperating the wheelchair.

Don’t perform installation ormaintenance of batteries in anarea that could be damaged bybattery spills.

Move the wheelchair to a workarea before cleaning terminals,or opening battery box.

Don’t make it a habit todischarge batteries to thelowest level.

Recharge as frequently aspossible to maintain a highcharge level and extend batterylife.

Don’t use randomly chosenbatteries or chargers.

Follow recommendations in thismanual when selecting a batteryor charger.

Don’t put new batteries intoservice before charging.

Fully charge a new batterybefore using.

Don’t tip or tilt batteries. Use a carrying strap to remove,move or install a battery.

Don’t tap on clamps andterminals with tools.

Push battery clamps on theterminals. Spread clamps widerif necessary.

Don’t mismatch your batteryand chargers.

Use only a gel charger for a gelbattery.
