Contaminants of Emerging Concern Whenever water pollution is mentioned, organic and inorganic compunds such as detergents, disinfection byproducts, lubricants, solvents etc. and pathogenic microrganism such as Cryptosporidium, Giardia, Salmonella etc. comes to our mind. Chemicals are now being discovered in water that were previously not detected or were not at levels that have significantly impact on humans. These are now often referred as “Contaminants of Emerging Concerns” (CoECs) because the risk to human health and the environment associated with their presence, frequency of occurrence, or source may not be known. Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) and perfluorinated compounds (PFCs) have emerged as CoECs because of their wide distribution and persistence in environment. Both types of chemicals accumulate in human tissue or blood, and are associated with health effects including endocrine disruption. Startups Steve Blank a Silicon Valley serial-entrepreneur and academician and recognized for developing Customer Development methodology speaks about ‘Startups”. Here is what he says: STARTUP isn’t a smaller version of a large companies. Startup is a temporary organization designed to search for a repeatable and scalable business model. The goal of a startup is to be a large company while searching for e.g. Value proposition, customer segment, distribution channel, revenue stream etc. Steve Blanks defines the following types of startups in a market: 1. Startup in an existing market 2. Startup in a new market 3. Startup in a resegmented portion in existing market 4. Startup to clone an existing market in some part of world. “Sadly, it's much easier to create a desert than a forest”.
