From the very first shot of the music video, mise en scene establishes the location of the music video. The location is a large castle-like building which suggests that the characters in this music video are quite wealthy. The care in the bottom right corner is a Shelby AC Cobra which is apparently a rare type of care and therefore suggests the wealth of the characters even more. The writing which says ‘Blank Space’ may suggests the narrative of the music video how a

girl feels like she is constantly talking to a blank space as the male character in this music video seems to ignore her a lot of the time and he seems to spend his time on his phone. Moreover, a low angle shot of the artist in the centre of the staircase suggests that she is the main character in this music video and because she is the one looking down on what seems like the audience, she is the one who lives in the house. The low angle shot creates verisimilitude as it seems like she is looking down on the audience which makes her look intimidating.

Also, the fact that her arms are out beside her suggests that she owns the house and it is her property. Furthermore, a close up of the artist shows that her face is made up with makeup. Her red

lipstick is iconic for love and the boldness suggests she is a confident individual. The dark eye look suggests she is perhaps mysterious and she may even have dark intentions. Moreover, the fact that her face is the only thing in focus suggests that it is the main thing she wants the audience to focus on. Her facial expression is in the form of a smirk which highlights that she does in fact have dark intentions. iconic for most teenagers/ young people in love and stereotypically in teen American films; a tree is almost always carved out with either the names of the couple or their initials. The artist’s shorts are a lilac shade and purple is often associated with power, luxury and wealthy and also conveys wisdom

and wealth. The colour matches the location as the music video is set in a huge castle-like building which highlights wealth within the music video. In this final image, it shows a hand piercing a cake with a sharp knife. The cake is in the shape of a love-heart and because of the events that took place previously in the video, it seems like she is angry with the male character.

A love-heart connotes love and for the artist to destroy it suggests that she may perhaps be heartbroken or over the male character.
