Teacher Notes:
Add and Subtract Game, £ and pence:
You will need:• 10 sided die, numbered 0 to 9;• Add and Subtract Game learner worksheets.
– Agree highest or lowest score wins. – Roll the die. – The blue squares represent two sums of pounds and pence. – Learners write the number shown on the die into one of the blue squares.
N.B. if you are doing subtract and the number is zero, do not write it into the pounds column as there is a risk of a negative answer. If it is the final roll of a set of five and the number is zero, roll again. Subtracts already have a zero as the lower number of pounds.
Roll the die five more times for an addition, four more for a subtraction, learners writing the number into a blue square each time.
When all blue squares are filled, learners perform the operation.
See who in the class has the highest or lowest answer according to your target.
The activity as above provides evidence towards AC1.2.
Learners then draw then coins that would make up their final answer in the space beneath each calculation, as evidence towards AC1.1.
