Formal Proposal
The title of the magazine I wish to produce is POP!. I have chosen this over all the others because I feel it
is short, snappy, and easy to remember for the audience. It tells the reader straight away what the
genre of the magazine is. Also, the explanation mark on the end is eye catching, and adds enthusiasm
which would get the readers excited.
As shown by the title of the magazine, the genre I have chosen to base my magazine on is pop music. I
have chosen pop music for many different reasons. Firstly, it is my personal preference, so therefore I
know more about it than other genres. Also, it is a very popular genre (as shown by the questionnaires)
so it would have a large target audience, which is what a magazine needs if it is going to be successful.
The main target audience for my magazine is teenage girls aged between 14 and 16 who like pop music.
This is partly because I am a 16 year old so may know some of what other girls like too, so will be able to
appeal to them.
On the front page, I am thinking to have a large image on the front with the mast head overlaying the
image on the top left. For the mast head I am going to use one of the 2 fonts which got the most votes.
There will be a pug, containing the price of the magazine, and a barcode on the bottom right, as it will
be dead space. I will have multiple cover lines on the left side and a couple on the right, and I will have a
few images which link to certain cover lines. For the colours, I will use pinks, purples, black and white.
This is because I am trying to appeal to a feminine audience, and stereotypically girls like pinks and
purples.
On the contents page, I will continue using pinks and purples to keep the magazine looking consistent.
For the title of the contents page I might repeat the mast head and then write 'contents' next to it, this
will also keep it looking consistent, and making the pages look like they all belong to the same magazine.
I will use the rule of thirds, to keep the magazine looking neat and professional, and I will add
appropriate images onto the contents too.
After having done research into other pop magazines like 'We Love Pop' that are aimed at teenage girls,
I have noticed that there isn't many different types of articles other than interviews with celebrities.
Egmont, publisher of We Love Pop has been publishing that magazine for years, so then I realized that
they must only do them articles because they appeal to the audience the most. Also, on my
questionnaire, the majority said they liked articles about celebrities. So, I have decided that the article
on my double page spread is going to be an interview from a celebrity, with a large picture on one side
and text on the other. I will carry on the colour scheme throughout, but will maybe add a bit more
colour to make it look more interesting.
For the photographs, I have decided I will have one medium shot of a female model on the front cover,
who will appear again on the double page spread, but in a long shot. On the contents page I will have a
long shot of a male artist, and a medium long shot of a band. I will edit these photographs to suit my
magazine.

This a famous pop singer Demi Lovato. This is a similar image to
the one which I would want on my front cover.
