When you start your first job, you will realise that there is a lot more toemployment than physically doing your job. There are many aspects to thatspecific job which you will need to understand and be able to interpretthese.

Working for a company such as Apple, you will need to know the technicalknowledge for many different products. If a customer comes into the storewhich you are working in and are interested in buying the Ipad 2 but are notsure what the product offers compared to the first Ipad. As an employeeyou will need to know why the product is so expensive? What makes it

unique? How much size is available for you to use?

If a customer can see you understand the product and have the technicalknowledge. They will see an interest in the product as well as thebusiness.

    Attitude towards work

Attitude is defined as "a way of looking at life; a way ofthinking, feeling or behaving."

Having the positive attitude towards your job and looking as if your

interested in what you are doing. If you look disinterested, customers willpick up on these things and will lose interest in the business itself.

This simply means smiling now and again, modulating your voice, usingcorrect terminology.

Working for someone like Apple you would want to work yourself up in thehierarchy . For this you would need the willingness and desire to get upeveryday and keep on doing the same job to reach your goals.

    Time management

Time management skills, like planning and organisational skills, are notdeveloped overnight. They are developed through improving own learningand performance and problem solving activities.

One of the key issues with good time management is to be sensible aboutwhat you can achieve. Do not set unrealistic deadlines that you do not haveany hope of meeting.

Being at work on time consistently and finishing work set on time showsyour supervisor or team leader that you are able to manage your time well.

Companies need people who are able to commit themselves and can meetdeadlines given

    Team working

Team working is part of a wider key skill Working with others that you mayhave been asked to do at you workplace. Being able to work effectively aspart of a team is a skill that can be learned, although some people arenatural team players anyway.

Employees consider that being able to work effectively as part of a team isas important as being able to work independently. When working as part ofa team, it is important to remember that the role you play is only a part of anoverall process.

Apple considers its employees to be able to work with people from alldifferent backgrounds. Why? This shows the capability of the employer.

    Organisational

Organisational skills break down into three areas:

    Assigning priorities

    Planning skills

Time management, timetabling and working to deadlines

Employers want to be reassured that you are able to plan your timeeffectively and organise your work, carefully prioritising it to meetorganisational and departmental objectives.

Being well organised is fundamental, not only from an employmentperspective, but also from a personal one. If you keep organised, you willsee improvements in other personal attributes as well as organisationalskills.

    Determination

Having the strength of mind to achieve or succeed in yourworkplace. For example if you have been assigned to a project onThe features of the Ipad 2? You are struggling half way through andfeel like giving up. Determination comes into place to help you todrive yourself to complete the project.

Employees will consider determination as a key skill in employees. Ifyou consider to have determination you are willing to achieve more.

So by this you want the company to improve and achieve muchmore.

    Tolerance

Working with other people is likely to have its difficulties. You maywell find yourself working with people you do not like or who treatyou with less respect than you feel you would treat them. In

circumstances like these you need to be tolerant, you will need toshow that you respect other peoples views, practices and opinions, even if you do not necessarily agree with them. A lack of toleranceis often what causes conflicts between colleagues.

Customers will see the relationship you have with other employersand can sense whether there is disarray within the team, this cangive the company a bad name.

    Leadership and confidence

Without confidence there is no leadership

Self confidence is the fundamental basis from which leadership grows.Being the leader of your workforce you need to possess the qualities to

    lead the team.

A good leader would use constructive critiscism to help other employees.Setting an example to other workers and being able to get yourself heard. Agood leader must have the discipline to work toward his or her visionsingle-mindedly, as well as to direct his or her actions and those of theteam toward the goal.

Good leadership can lead to higher status jobs, such as managerial rolesetc. This is why Apple might want to consider employees with theleadership & confidence skills.
