Also a belated welcome back to Mahew and Charlie Macleod. Our senior class is growing and we now have seventeen students there and 31 students in the school. It’s been a bit of a messy week for the last one of the term, with the senior students parcipang in the junior tough guy and gal challenge and Mrs C being away due to sickness. The holidays can’t come quickly enough. With all the bugs around we all need me to refresh and build up our resistance for the next term. Kapa Haka We were so pleased with our small group’s performance at their first public performance out of the community. They were excited and nervous but gave it their best and sounded absolutely wonderful. Unfortunately we can’t keep traveling to Rodney College for instrucon and so it would be wonderful if there was someone in the area who could help give the boys support and instrucon in performing haka. Heidi and Michelle do a wonderful job with the singing and acons but a male is really needed for the haka acons. Ag Day - 14th September Ag Day will be a week earlier this year. Here is a lile informaon to help you prepare for the rearing of animals parcularly for those of you new to the school. Tapora School Agricultural Day is a fantasc occasion to celebrate our unique rural school identy and bring together the wider community, allowing our students to display their talents and efforts with various indoor and outdoor exhibits. ‘Empowering our children to discover their passion and fulfil their potential’ Welcome to our new student and her family...Salvina Picton. Also a belated welcome back to Matthew and Charlie Macleod. Our senior class is growing and we now have seventeen students there and 31 students in the school. It’s been a bit of a messy week for the last one of the term, with the senior students participating in the junior tough guy and gal challenge and Mrs C being away due to sickness. The holidays can’t come quickly enough. With all the bugs around we all need time to refresh and build up our resistance for the next term. Kapa Haka We were so pleased with our small group’s performance at their first public performance out of the community. Heidi and Michelle do a wonderful job with the singing and actions but a male is really needed for the haka actions. Ag Day - 14th September Ag Day will be a week earlier this year. Ag Day Rules 1. Only ONE entry per child. 2. Only children enrolled at Tapora School are eligible to enter. There will be a pre-school lamb/pet section if any entries. 3. All classes are dependent on entry numbers. 4. Goats and lambs must be born on or after 25th of June, 2018. 5. Lambs must be docked or in the process of (i.e. rubber ring). 6. Lamb and Goat judging will be divided into 3 sections – Senior, Junior and Pre-school, with classes for all sections in Leading,

Calling, Care and Effort. 7. Pre-school entries are not eligible for the Champion awards. 8. NO washing of lambs. 9. All goats and lambs must be hand-reared i.e. not “bust” reared. 10. There will be one Pet Section 11. NB: Cats will be excluded from participation; it is too stressful for these animals to be in a cage for the whole day. 12. There will be art and craft activities open to all children. Leading: • Lambs and goats shall be led around three sides of a ring, approximately 10m2. • The child shall hold the lead in the right hand about 15cm from the collar. • The lamb/goat should walk steadily with the child (the lambs/goats shoulder by the child’s leg) and should not be pulling ahead or dragging back. • The judge will require the child and the lamb/goat to stop and restart at some time during their progress around the ring. • Further leading tests may be done at the judge’s discretion. Rearing: • The best reared lamb/goat will be judged mainly on condition, size and general appearance. The Judge will take into account the age of the lamb/goat and the breed. Calling: • For this event the child shall leave their lamb/goat with a steward, who will take the lead off while the child walks to a peg about 10 metres away. When the judge signals, the child shall call the lamb/goat. When the lamb/goat comes, the child shall quietly take the lambs/goats lead (not grab it) and lead the lamb/goat away. • Points will be given for the promptness with which the lamb/goat comes, and how quietly it stands while being caught. • If, after reasonable time of calling, the lamb/goat does not come all the way or at all, the judge will then tell the child to catch the lamb/goat. Points will be given for how easily this is done and how quiet the lamb/goat is. • The stewards will see that the child has a fair chance, free from undue noises and distractions. The champion lamb/goat will have received the highest aggregate points in the 3 classes—Leading, Rearing and Calling. Other Pets Judging will be based on visual condition and behaviour of the animal along with the conversation with the child enabling them to show their knowledge about the care required for their pet. Taporapora Community Environmental Annual Award sponsored by Tapora Landcare. (one more reminder) This award is open to all students at Tapora School. To be considered for the award they need to be able to show the judging panel what they have done to help the community and the environment. Parents are encouraged to support their tamariki particularly the younger ones. Students can be judged as individuals, pairs, groups or whanau groups. Judging is prior to our Agriculture day where the first, second and third placegetters will be announced.

Tapora Microgrid Update – June 2019 - Letter from Vector: As you know, we have been working with the Tapora community to provide a microgrid for backup power supply to the area. Civil works have been completed, as have the installation of overhead field devices. Electrical installation has been progressed, with 60% of this completed. Our investigation showed that the battery system was incorrectly packaged for sea freight, and therefore has been damaged by water. We have removed the faulty battery systems from site and will be replacing them with new ones. The estimated time for this replacement is around 4-5 months, towards the end of November 2019. Our apologies for the delay. We will update you again when there is progress with this project. If you have any questions, please contact me directly on 09 978 8320.
