Dear Professors,
My greetings to you all.To unearth black money and counterfeit
currency by withdrawing the higher value currency notes of Rs500
and Rs1000 is one of the steps taken by Prime Minister MODI.This
is not the first time demonetization of high denomination notes has
been tried as a means to eradicate black money.significant sections
of the public have welcomed it. But the wide Spread hardship
experienced by the people all over the country because of the
inadequate supply of new legal tender and small denomination
notes to banks' branches and automatic teller machines(ATM)have
made the implementation of the scheme and even its basic design
have attracted mounting public criticism .The credibility of the
process requires that the procedure of security and verification be
spelt out and made public.Demonetising higher denomination is
not an enough measure to bring out the black money which is held
not just in currency but mostly in a verity of other assets like real
estate,gold and undeclared foreign account.
TANRECTA sought for an appointment with the DCE (Addl.ch)
Thiru.RAJENDRA RATHNU IAS.He immediately called us for
discussion on 15th Nov. It was a full fledged discussion. He showed
keen interest in understanding our problems and told that all are
going to retire one day or other and so he would take special care
to solve our genuine problems.
We are very much disappointed that the Tamil Nadu
Government not yet announced the increased DA from July 2016.
We urge the Government to announce it at the earliest. At the time
when the TANRECTA December 2016, reaches your hand the new
unit office bearers would have sworn in. I thank all the outgoing
office bearers for their selfless service and welcome the new office
bearers to continue the work.
Thanking you
With fraternal greetings
T.N.Gokulnath Bapu.

KUMBAKONAM UNIT
The august audience of Tanrecta of Kumbakonam unit assembledat the Gopal Rao library, Town Hall Road, Kumbakomam, by 5.30, inthe evening on 12th November, 2016. Prof. C.Rajasekaran presidedand welcomed the gathering. Commenting on demonetization andAmerican election our President Prof. C.Rajasekaran said (i) The surgicalstrike on black money and fake notes is inevitable and indispensable. Tospruce up our moribund economy our Government has demonetized 500and 1000 rupee notes. Modi’s bold action promoted a flurry speculationin the press this week. The stroke of demonetization may rattle peoplebut it will definitely inject dynamism in the field of economy. Severaldiehards hold the view that it won’t prevent the impending economicapocalypse because that big sharks might have invested their ill-gottenwealth in land, bricks and morter, gold and share markets. Some arguethat the Government should identify the root of the problem and introduceremedial measures. (ii)The psephologists and the media in the U.S. couldnot predict accurately in which way the wind was blowing. Trump’spre-election verbal diarrhoea rattled many Americans but the post-election mellowed speech gave them some hope. But we cannotextrapolate what the maverick (Trump) will do in future. Let us hope forthe best.
The members recalled the sweet memories of Pandit JawaharlalNehru, who is considered to be the architect of Modern Indian Nation. His government oversaw the establishment of many institutions of higherlearning, including the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, the IndianInstitutes of Technology, the Indian Institutes of Management and theNational Institutes of Technology.
We need not say that our professors are voluble at Thirukkural, aclassic Tamil sangam literature consisting of 1330 couplets. The three partsthat the Tirukkural is divided into, namely, aram (virtue), porul (wealth)and inbam (love), aiming at attaining veedu (ultimate salvation), follow, respectively, the four foundations of Hinduism, namely, dharma, artha, kama and moksha. The Vaishnavite beliefs of Valluvar are bolstered inhis mentioning of God Vishnu in couplets 610 and 1103 and GoddessLakshmi in couplets 167, 408, 519, 565, 568, 616, and 617. Other Hindubeliefs of Valluvar found in the book include previous birth and re-birth,seven births, and some ancient Indian astrological concepts, among

others. The vice president of the unit Dr.C.Mani, suggested to haveuseful nuggets of information in the monthly meetings from the couplets.
This forum appreciated the efforts of our centre-unit for havingsubmitted our memorandam to the UGC PRC (Pay Review Committee)
Prof. Dr.Pon.Muthaiyan breaved his younger son Mr.M.Baheerathan last week. This assembly conveyed its heart-feltcondolences to Prof. Dr. Pon.Muthaiyan. The unit paid homage to thedeparted soul. It is highly deplorable that Prime Minister Narendra Modiand Russian President Vladimir Putin had during the BRICS summit inGoa last month launched the civil work for the III and IV units of KNPP(Kundankulam Nuclear Power Plant) through video conferencing. Wefeel bad for losing our composure. Whichever party had come to powerthere has always been a Chinese wall between the institution of the PMand the politician. Unfortunately both have come together in the currentaffair. We thank and appreciate the centre unit for having taken cognitionof our suggestions. In spite of that, units of Virudhunagar, Kanyakumari,Salem and Ramanathapuram still use the term mavatta (khtl;l) intheir letters. May we request the centre to come forward to redressthat? We feel in ‘Tanrecta Speaks’ the term fpisr;nra;jpfs; may beused instead of khtl;lr;nra;jpfs;). We find people play politics afterthe unfortunate demise of an ex-soldier. Did they find time for the familiesof the farmers when they committed suicide due to bad crops or poverty? We maintain our composure despite a desperate desire to laugh.
President Prof. C.Rajasekaran brought forward two questions forthe members, the first question being, ‘What is BRICS’? Mention thenames of the countries. Answer : BRICS is the acronym for anassociation of five major emerging national economies: Brazil, Russia,India, China and South Africa: In addition it was asked to expandBIMSTEC. The corresponding answer is Bay of Bengal Initiative forMultisectoral Technical and Economic Corporation. The countries comeunder this are Bangladesh, India, Myanmar, Srilanka, Thailand, Bhutanand Nepal. Prof Dr..S. Solaiyappan won the prize by answering thequestion. The second question raised was ‘What is the meaning of crèmede la crème?’. Answer: the best people or things of their kind.Prof. A.Govindasamy answered and won the prize.
The vice President Prof Dr. C.Mani suggested.
