TAMILNADU STATE COUNCIL FOR SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Directorate of Technical Education Campus, Chennai – 600 025 Report on Student Project Scheme The State Council implements the “Student Projects Scheme” every year to promote research aptitude of among students studying in engineering under graduate, PG- professional courses and science courses. Under this scheme project proposal submitted by students (either individually or as a group) and selected by experts in various sectors such as Agriculture, Biology, Chemical Sciences, Engineering(Civil, Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical / Electronic / Communication, Computer Science and Engineering), Environmental Science, Medicine, Veterinary, Physical and Social Sciences are provided with partial financial support of maximum Rs.10,000/-.. The Council organizes an annual seminar cum exhibition of the project completed by the students at any one of the institutions. During the Seminar cum exhibition one of the students of each of the projects will present and exhibit their findings. Best projects are provided with award and certificate and completion certificate to all for encouraging them. A proceeding comprising the summaries of the findings of various projects supported by the Council is also brought out. For the year 2017-2018 circular calling the student project proposals was hosted in the Council’s website and total of 6827 proposals have been received in various disciplines. These proposals were processed with the help of subject expert Committee in each discipline and supported 500 projects worth Rs. 48,23,450 /- in various sectors as mentioned below.

Publication

A proceeding comprising the summaries of the findings of various projects

supported by the Council was compiled. All students were provided with project

completion certificate.

Intellectual Property Rights

All students were provided with patent facilitation form along with their

approval of the projects. Council has received many requests and with the

assistance of Patent Information Centre these requests are being processed.

Seminar cum Exhibition

The Seminar cum Exhibition was organized at National College,

Tiruchirappalli during 20-21 July, 2018. Registration of candidates for the

programme was takes place adjacent to the College Auditorium. Over 25

Teaching faculty and about 30 student volunteers were deputed across the

campus for guiding the students to the registration hall and then to the Seminar

Halls around the campus. Students who came to attend the programme were

properly guided according to the schedule of presentations. Earlier, all the

participants were notified about the programme and were made to do online

registration to obtain their corresponding address / mail id, preference of

accommodation and other particulars.

Seminar Kit

Every Project, either Group or individual, represented by a single

candidate was given the seminar kit containing an L-folder, notepad, pen,

seminar hall schedule for presentation, identity card, food coupons etc.

Seminar Halls

About 19 Seminar halls with LCD projector, Computer and Laser Pointers

were made available for presentation and another 5 halls were kept as stand-by

for emergency use. All the buildings were connected with power generator to

continue the programme during power failure. Every hall had a staff and student

volunteer to assist the Judge and the presenter for a smooth conduct.

Inauguration

The inaugural function was held at college auditorium at 9.30 am as per

schedule. Dr. R. Sundararaman, principal of the college delivered the welcome

address. Dr. Manisankar, Vice-Chancellor, Bharathidasan University delivered

the inaugural address and Dr. R. Srinivasan, Member Secretary delivered the

presidential address. The proceedings comprising of all the funded projects was

released by the Vice-Chancellor and received by Dr. R.Srinvasan, Member

Secretary, TNSCST. Dr. A.T. Ravichandran, Vice-Principal, thanked everyone for

attending the Inaugural function and the students were announced to find their

respective halls and be seated for the arrival of the judges.

Presentation

Senior faculty members from various institutions around Tiruchirappalli

were appointed as judges for each discipline. Candidates who registered for the

presentation were guided to the respective halls. Judges appointed for every

discipline according to the schedule in 19 different halls were briefed about the

guidelines to recommend two-best presentations and a best exhibit for award in

every discipline

.

Accommodation was arranged in the College Hostels (both men and

ladies hostels). Students who exceeded our capacity were accommodated in

private hostels.

Exhibition Indoor stadium of the College was prepared for the purpose of exhibition

of models brought by the students. Participants assembled their models and kept

ready for examination by the judges of the respective discipline on second day.

Valedictory Function

Valedictory function on second day was held at 4.45 pm. The programme

started informally with the recap of the two-day event by slideshow of

photographs taken during the event. Students feedback was shared by a few

participants. Sooner, the programme was initiated formally with the arrival of the

Chief Guest, Mr. Rajamani, I.A.S., District Collector, Tiruchirapalli District. Dr. R.

Sundararaman, Principal. National College, Tiruchirapalli delivered the welcome

address. Dr. R. Srinivasan, Member Secretary, TNSCST delivered the

presidential address. Dr. A. Ramanan, Scientific Officer, TNSCST, read the

report two days seminar cum exhibition of student projects scheme. Dr. M.S.

Mohamed Jaabir, Co-ordinator of the Programme made announcement of the list

of prize / award winners in each discipline. Prizes / certificates were distributed

by the Collector. Dr. M.A. Jothirajan, Project consultant, TNSCST, delivered the

vote of thanks. After the valedictory function, participants were distributed with

their participation certificates and Travel Allowance.
