Goodbyes are never easy and neither is change but as I have said, life is full of changes and they can also be exciting. I would like to say that I am so glad for the opportunity I have had at Tallong PS. I can remember saying to the panel that I wanted to help make Tallong an outstanding small school and the one that stands out in the area. I hope this has been achieved. I am so proud of the staff and the way they have embraced changes, including all new curriculums, professional learning and now even the physical structure of the school is changing, but in an ex- citing way. I am proud of the culture we have now with the students and the community. As a school community we have worked so hard to achieve this. Our students are a credit to our community in the way they are involved in their edu- cation, sport and social events. Tallong PS is in a great position for future endeavours and this is because of our joint expectations and goals we share. From next week Tallong is very lucky to have Miss Emily Morrow as their relieving principal. She has experience in all aspects of primary education and has been identified due to her expertise in literacy and numeracy as an In- structional Leader in her current school. She has Tallong P.S. A nurturing small school environment with caring and committed staff.

Term 2 Week 2 Thursday 7th May 2020

What if my child is anxious about returning to school?

It is expected that all students will be experiencing a combi-

nation of excitement and anxiety. This is normal. Teachers

will be sensitive to this and will quickly reassure children and

make them feel welcome at school once again. If you have

concerns of a more serious nature, please feel free to con-

tact the school office to speak with teachers or Miss Morrow.

Where will my child play?

At Tallong PS we are fortunate to have a big school site to

play on so that we will not need to stagger our recess and

lunch breaks. Students may bring handballs but not basket-

balls or soccer balls until further notice. School sports equip-

ment will not be in use during Phase 1.

How will we keep safe at school?

Students must only attend school if they are well. Any stu-

dents who have cold or flu symptoms will be sent home as a

precaution. We will be practising handwashing routines and

using hand sanitiser. Social distancing will be used in play-

grounds and lines. We are encouraging students to stay in

their ‘bubble’. Touching/hugging/hand holding will be strong-

ly discouraged – but please remember they are children and

we will do our best!

environment with caring and

committed staff.

Phase 1 - Students return for one day per week

The excitement is building for both the students and teach-

ers as we plan for students returning one day per week

from Monday. Thank you for all the wonderful work you

have been doing with your children. Please don’t feel

stressed if you haven’t been able to complete it all – we un-

derstand. When students return, we can assess them and

continue the learning programs from where they are up to.

What day will my child come?

A letter has been sent home via the post and Seesaw. We

have planned for about a quarter of the students each day.

Students have been rostered to come 1 day per week.

Fridays are aimed to assist teachers maintain their planning

and online communication with only children of essential

workers attending school each Friday.

What class will my child be in?

Our guidelines indicate that only a certain amount of chil-

dren can be in a classroom to help with social distancing.

We are hoping to have a K-2 and 3-6 class with the teach-

ers at Tallong supervising them whilst they do their learning

pack. This means that they will not necessarily be super-

vised by their own class teacher. It is envisaged that each

child will catch up with their own teacher during their time at

school. When not face-face teaching, teachers will still be

preparing work for the next weekly overview and providing

feedback on the work samples submitted. This is going to

be a huge workload for our teachers as we must continue

this model of learning, so please be patient as feedback

may be delayed.

What work will my child be doing?

We will be continuing our single unit of work model, that all

students will work through whether at home or school.

When at school, some activities may be replaced with as-

sessment tasks or support lessons from the Learning Sup-

port teacher. Any work not completed on the day does not

need to be caught up.

What does my child need to bring?

All students will need to bring fruit break, recess and lunch

and water. If you have hand sanitiser that your child can

bring, that would be handy but we do have some in every

classroom. There are no lunch orders from the Midge.
