Here's some information about the golfers who participated at Poppy Hills Golf Course in October. Jim McCrary and Bob Staib competed in the Champion Flights but did not finish in the top five in their respective flights. On the evening prior to play many of us enjoyed an evening, at the Bay Park Hotel, of drinks, dinner and rooting for the Giants in the World Series Our group had Jim McCrary and Bob Staib participating in the Singles Championship. Two days of Open play included: Bill Fox, Jim Hahn, Tim Tomko, John Holland, Bob Brown Ed Houk, Andy Anderson, Lee Tong and Ray Ganzer Sorry to say we did not have a winner in the Singles Championship. However, we did have a winner in the Open. Bill Fox was 1st place in Flight 1 of 5, and place 2nd on the second day. The rest of the group, you can say, just went to familiarize ourselves with the renovated Poppy Hills course. We had some mind-blowing scores, too embarrassing to mention here. Several of the wives, however not in the Poppy Hills Tournament were: Sandy Kreger, Connie Holland, Carol McCrary and Kathryn Houk, who played Poppy Hills prior to the tournament. Sorry, if some of the names of members and wives were inadvertently left out.

“Mikey’s Corner”
Mikey Mastrocovo has offered to take photos from time to time of members attending various SIR functions and the
pictures will be shown in the current SIR bulletin.
He might be taking photos out at the golf course, at the Luncheon, and certainly at the yearly Picnic and the Christmas Party.
So if you see Mikey with a camera…… smile !! Some photos by Bob Du Sell

> Golf Poem > > In My Hand I Hold A Ball, > White And Dimpled...Rather Small. > Oh, How Bland It Does Appear, > This Harmless Looking Little Sphere. > By Its Size I Could Not Guess > The Awesome Strength It Does Possess. > But Since I Fell Beneath Its Spell, > I've Wandered Through The Fires Of Hell. > My Life Has Not Been Quite The Same > Since I Chose To Play This Stupid Game. > It Rules My Mind For Hours On End; > A Fortune It Has Made Me Spend. > It Has Made Me Curse And Made Me Cry, > And Hate Myself And Want To Die. > It Promises Me A Thing Called Par, > If I Hit It Straight And Far. > To Master Such A Tiny Ball, > Should Not Be Very Hard At All. > But My Desires The Ball Refuses, > And Does Exactly As It Chooses. > It Hooks And Slices, Dribbles And Dies, > And Disappears Before My Eyes. > Often It Will Have A Whim, > To Hit A Tree Or Take A Swim. > With Miles Of Grass On Which To Land, > It Finds A Tiny Patch Of Sand. > Then Has Me Offering Up My Soul, > If Only It Would Find The Hole. > It's Made Me Whimper Like A Pup, > And Swear That I Will Give It Up. > And Take To Drink To Ease My Sorrow, > But The Ball Knows ... I'll Be Back Tomorrow. > > Stand proud, noble swingers of clubs and losers of balls! > > Recent studies found average golfers walk 900 miles a year. > > Another study found golfers drink 22 gallons of alcohol a year. > > This means, on average, golfers get 41 miles to the gallon! > Kind of makes you proud. Almost makes you feel like a hybrid. .. .
