• #1 cause of death in the U.S.• 860,000 Americans died in 2005 • Early diagnosis/treatment reduces risk

• Early screening includes cholesterol

and BP checks

• Individuals >50 could add 8-11 years

Screening for High Cholesterol

Cholesterol & Blood Pressure (BP)

• 65 million Americans have high cholesterol • High cholesterol >200 = increased CVD• Many Americans ??? Cholesterol/BP levels• High BP causes heart attack, stroke & renal

insufficiency in adults >18• BP >130/90 is considered high

• Location – Blair County, PA• Target audience –

Young adults ages 18-25

Adult men ages 40-55

Women ages 45-65• Free screenings for all participants• Medical personnel available for referrals &

questions

Purpose

• Identify individuals at risk for CVD• Increase community awareness • Immediate blood cholesterol analysis• Free blood pressure readings• Decrease prevalence/incidence of CVD
