My overall idea stayed relatively the same, it was more so the physical limitations and the way I adapted this idea into a physical form, that led me to have to reconsider how I could portray my idea. If you were to choose one artist that had the greatest influence on your piece, who would it be and why? New-York-based, video and projection artist Tony Oursler was a major influence for me. contribute to our own routines.

What motivated you to produce your artwork?

I was fascinated with the concept of everyday life, and the cycle we all numbingly follow – a series of actions that contribute to our own routines.

I found it interesting that with the evolving infotainment age that we are currently in, technology plays such a major part of our routines, changing the way we navigate our lives, in an extreme way, without us even realising it.

Did your initial idea change during the art making process?

My overall idea stayed relatively the same, it was more so the physical limitations and the way I adapted this idea into a physical form, that led me to have to reconsider how I could portray my idea.

If you were to choose one artist that had the greatest influence on your piece, who would it be and why?

New-York-based, video and projection artist Tony Oursler was a major influence for me. He explores a great deal of projection artwork, experimenting with the way projections interact with a three-dimensional environment. Why is art and creativity important at times of uncertainty and change?

I think of art as a means of communication, a language that everyone understands. It can connect people through emotions, relatability and allow people to go above and beyond what our reality is.

I think art and creativity are immensely important in times of uncertainty and change because in these times we, humanity, need to stick together as a unified community.

Having a platform such as art is a powerful way to connect everyone, issue a sense of hope and provides a getaway from reality even for a short period of time.

In what ways do you think art influences how you feel about yourself, and how you connect to others?

Art is a significant part of my life, and has not only drastically changed the way I look at the world, but also how I feel about myself.

I feel as though I have unlocked a way in which I can interact with others without talking. I am a quiet person, and yet I like to believe I am recognised by my peers as having a large voice through the things I create and choose to share.

What career path are you embarking on, and has The Arts impacted your choice?

I am currently pursuing a Bachelor of Arts: Screen Production, at The Australian Film, Television and Radio School in Sydney.

I hope to become a filmmaker, perhaps more specifically a cinematographer or producer. The Arts have definitely played its part in choosing my career path in the screen industry.

A few years ago, I really wanted to be a teacher, then a lawyer, but I began to experiment more with art and began to love creating digital works.

What do you feel young people need from AGWA at this time of rapid change while galleries are physically closed?

Young people like a chance to view artworks, such as those in Pulse Perspectives for additional inspiration and encouragement.

I remember going to see last year’s exhibition; it helped me grasp the

students’ passion and belief in what they created. It motivated me to work towards the goal of being able to achieve something like this in my artwork – having the platform to share your work with more people. If AGWA can’t provide this experience physically, a digital presence would be just as much help.

Is there a song, book, memory, feeling, artist or state of mind that inspires your practice that might support other artists to create at home?

I recommend listening to the album Everyday Life by Coldplay.

Coincidentally, this album was released just after I submitted my ATAR artwork and it blew my mind how similar the thought process for this album was to my own art practice – focusing on the everyday.

Listening to the album in full, opened my mind to the universal context of humanity and the

world. It tackles so many global issues, but ultimately teaches the lesson that despite everything, music can connect us all and there is hope that transcends hard times; this is the way I think about art. It inspires me every day, listening to this collection of recordings and music pieces, because I believe it allows us to feel limitless in what we can create and share.

Quotidian routine MDF sculpture, single channel video.

This piece contemplates the monotony of everyday rituals and comments on the prevalence of technology in our lives. I am fascinated with our collective cluelessness of our own quotidian routines, and how the infotainment age has significantly changed the way we navigate our lives.

Modelling animation over real life recordings further enhances the reality of these situations, drawing attention to unnoticeable yet malignant habits of the every day. All of this in a theatre of a building facade.
