Donations Thank you to our families
who have already paid school donations for 2018. These are often overlooked
during the busy period earlier in the year.
Reminder notices will be sent home early
next week. We would appreciate your
payment, if you can, as these funds help top-up the shortfall
in funding we receive from the Ministry to provide the
‘extras’ for our students.
Unique Heritage
We would love the students of Avondale Primary to help us tell the history of Avondale. We are encouraging your
students to dig through their family photo albums (with the help of an adult!) and share their image/s of the area with us. One lucky Auckland student who shares an image with
us will win a $500 book voucher! For more information please visit retrace.co.nz

Tena tatou katoa and greetings to you all,
This morning’s parakuihi (breakfast) was another roaring success for Kim Wilkinson and her Whanau Leaders. Once again it was many hands to the till as staff and Whanau Leaders hosted a large amount of maatua (parents) and tamariki (children) with a gourmet selection of foods for a piping hot parakuihi. Thank you all for attending and I’m sure that the term 4 event will include our deck so we can enjoy the lovely views.
I am currently on the look out for ‘freebees’. While our government and the teacher union battle out negotiations for pay and work conditions, I am having to work with a less than desirable budget to make changes here. I am looking for…
• Advice on building an outdoor stage (we’re keen on one)
• Advice and assistance with stencilling fence paling ( we have the palings and designs)
• Advice on replacing curtains in the hall
• Advice on assistance with painting murals
• Outdoor plants to fill barren and unsightly areas
• Advice on fruit and vegetable gardens
• Advice on indoor painting (our pink staffroom and admin area is a little dated)
If you are able to help in any of these areas, please contact Kim or I at school.
Finally, it’s rather short from me this newsletter as I’ve been told we have a large number of photos to show off what we’re doing here.
Go the Warriors and once again, please enjoy your treasures this weekend! Mr Clarke

Barefoot in Winter Whenever kids are moving, being barefoot
adds more developmental insight to the experience. The skin covering on the soles of
feet contains many sensory receptors that feed back to us information about stability, position,
terrain and balance to name but a few. As well, the muscles in the feet cling to surfaces and provide a more
non-slip contact than soles of shoes or socks. Feet also provide feedback that allows the body to adjust constantly to the changing surfaces. And, if you’re worried about kids getting cold when
they go barefoot, remember to pop a hat on their head as 80% of body heat leaves
the body through the head. https://www.movingsmart.co.nz/
