People should donate money tomake the world a better place. Justlook what your money can do!

We brought in £1 each and dressed inour pyjamas.

We raised £285 as aschool.

On average Comic Relief raises£40 million each year for goodcauses.

funnyDo something

for money

In the North East, where we live, money has been spent on fundingsocial groups for young carers. Antand Dec recently visited one suchcentre and were really happy withhow the young people were beinghelped.

Money from Comic Relief also helpssome of the world’s poorest people.

See what a bigdifference yourpound can make!

Why should peopleparticipate and contributeto Comic Relief?

RecyclingThe facts

6

Participating in a recycling scheme is thebest way to help the world in which we live.We all must act fast because the amount ofwaste we create is increasing all the time!

Fact 1: Rubbish is dumped inplaces called landfill sites.Therubbish releases harmfulchemicals and greenhouse gasesinto the atmosphere. If yourecycle rubbish you will help toreduce the pollution caused bywaste.

Fact 2: Rainforests are beingdestroyed because of the needfor raw materials such as wood. This means that animal habitatsare being destroyed and thethreat of global warming isincreasing. If we recycle more, theneed for raw materials will bereduced and so the rainforestscan be preserved.

Why should youparticipate in arecycling scheme?

So... are youdoing yourbit? Don’tthrow away, recycle today!

Good Neighbours...

Here atWhitleyLodge FirstSchool weshare our sitewith GlebeSchool, aschool forchildren withspeciallearningneeds.

Children from the Glebe Schoolcome and participate in our schooland play with us.They are like nextdoor neighbours to us becausethey are great friends! They teachus sign language, we play togetherin the sensory garden and worktogether in lessons.

We decided to go and find outwhat members of our joint schoolcommunity feel about our positivelinks with each other.

Mrs Manton who works at Glebesaid the children come from allover NorthTyneside. Every lunchtime she brings a class of childrenover to play. In the afternoon shehelps them share in lessons atWhitley Lodge.

We asked Mrs Lutman, our Head, how the link between the twoschools benefited everyone.

“I think it is lovely when the Glebeschool children come over.I think it is great for everybody! Itallows children in a mainstreamschool to become aware of howsome children face certaindifficulties.”

We also asked two children fromGlebe what they feel about comingto our school.

Connor and Jessica told us they lovecoming over and like to play footballand in the willow tunnel.

Jessica loves the space hopper!Connor really liked making paperbridges in science but his favouritesubject is art, and doing the registerin French.

Jessica loved getting dressed up inMiss Denton’s class! Her favouritesubject is music.. .

You either love them or you hatethem but we all have toparticipate in class assembliesand plays. So here are our toptips for surviving them!

Control your nerves by thinking aboutsomething else during the week before. On the day, pick a point on the wallopposite you and focus on that, don’tlook at the audience too much.

Speak in a loud, clear voice. This meansthat everybody will be able to hear you.

Make sure you always try to lookforward. Turning round to the peoplebehind you doesn’t look very good!

Learn any lines you are given really wellto avoid making mistakes on the day.Practice in front of people at home sothat they can tell you if you arespeaking loud enough.

HAVE CONFIDENCE IN YOURSELF ANDENJOY IT!

relationshipRachel’s

advice

Some days at football practice oneof the boys is horrible to me, whatdo I do?

You need to tell your coach or ateacher. He might have a quiet wordwith the boy. It is always best to tellan adult.

When we are outside at playtimessome children call me names.

Try to ignore them. Talk to yourfriends and if it gets bad you musttell an adult.

When we are playing out in thestreet after school, the otherchildren leave me out of theirgames because they are olderand bigger than me.

Try and find some children ofyour own age to play with. Ifthis does not work tell yourparents and see if they canhelp you join in some of the

kids clubs that are run in NorthTyneside.
