Under this next stage schools will receive funding for all four equity loadings. The Socio-economic background and the Aboriginal background equity loadings first delivered in 2014 will be supplemented by new equity loadings for English language proficiency and Low level adjustment for disability. Remote and/or isolated schools will also be the first to receive a new location loading, as the first element of the base school allocation, in recognition of disadvantage due to distance from population centres and other schools. Our school has been advised that we will receive funding to support our students with additional learning needs in 2015. The school Executive has been working with our school community to determine the best ways to use these resources to support student learning. 2015 Planning This week the school executive have begun planning for 2015. Evaluating 2014 and planning for 2015 is an extremely important part of striving for success and ongoing improvement for the school. The uniqueness of our school makes for a challenging and exciting time as we look at ways to ensure we continue to provide our students and staff with the very best teaching and learning environment we can. On the administrative side we have begun looking at classes, numbers, teacher placement and classroom allocation – this will ensure smooth transition into 2015. Enrolments for 2015 are open. To enrol your child you will need to provide: your child’s birth certificate your child’s immunisation records and proof of current address. If you know that you will be moving during the Christmas vacation and will not be returning to AWPS next year we would appreciate you letting us know. Active After School Sports The Active After-school Communities program finished this week. We’ve had a terrific term of athletics and golf. Despite the heat, students were keen to engage in physical activity and develop their skills. Thanks once again to John Beattie, Jarrod Lindner and Nicole Morrison for coordinating this great program.

This wonderful program has concluded and will be replaced by the new Sporting Schools initiative in 2015. Sporting Schools will continue to fund free sporting activities and provide access to a range of community trained coaches to deliver sporting programmes. It is hoped that, if we are successful in our application, we may have the Sporting Schools programme operating towards the middle of next year. Presentation Day Many of our students will be recognised for their hard work and effort in academic, creative and sporting achievements during our Presentation Day to be held Monday 8th December. We are encouraging all parents to be in attendance so that the many accomplishments of our students over the year can be celebrated.

As Presentation Day is normally well attended we will need to ask for prams to be left outside to help make space for people. Also, if you could fill up all seats and not leave seats between people that will make it easier on us.

PLEASE NOTE: A light lunch, supplied by the hard working P&C, will be available following the presentation of awards. We are all looking forward to your company on the day.

Swim School The Swimming Scheme has commenced this week. I am sure the students will benefit greatly from their newly acquired swimming skills. Thank you to Leisa Grantham and Jenny Boyd in organising the swim school as well as instructing students each day.

Year 6 High School Orientation Program The Year 6 students have their final visit to Albury High next Wednesday. I am sure they will find the day beneficial as they will make new friends and

get a further taste of what high school life is all about.

Helpers Morning Tea Over the year, we have been inundated with offers of help by you and other community members, and as a way of saying thanks, we would like to invite you to a ‘Helper’s Morning Tea’ on Thursday 4th December at 11.00am. Whether you have been helping in the classroom, library, sporting days or any P&C activities, please come and share a cuppa and some nibbles with us. It’s the least we can do. TIPS FOR PARENTS

Choosing a book for your child What makes a good book for young kids? Usually anything that they want to read. Resist the desire to choose only books that you read as a child. Good books teach kids things subtly while still telling a great story. Find out more: http://www.schoolatoz.nsw.edu.au/homework-and-study/english/my-book-club/what-makes-a-good-book-for-young-kids Does cartoon violence make kids more aggressive? Lots of parents question the violence in many of today's cartoons and video games, but many of us grew up watching cartoons where violence was also a key ingredient. What does the research indicate about exposure of our kids to violence? Find out more: www.schoolatoz.nsw.edu.au/technology/using-technology/does-cartoon-violence-make-kids-more-aggressive
