A MESSAGE FROM OUR PASTOR Do you remember the movie a number of years ago called the “Passion”? I had very mixed feelings about this movie. Part of me was upset with the movie because of the vio-lence. It is a VERY graphic movie from start to finish. I found myself wanting to yell out “ENOUGH IS ENOUGH”. It hurt to witness the brutality toward Jesus. Yet I wonder if we didn’t need to see this. I wonder if over the 2000 years since this event happened, we have watered down the events to make it less painful for us. I wonder if we haven’t forgotten the Old Testament prophecies on the brutality of the Messiah’s death. I remember leaving the theater drained and speechless. I was moved by the story be-cause of the reminder it brings to each of us of what Jesus did go through on the journey to the cross so that we could be forgiven. Sin is the ultimate wrong to God, so the ultimate price would have to be paid. There is no question in my mind that God loves us so much that he would allow the crucifixion to happen. Remember God didn’t cause it, he allowed it to happen. This for many of us is very hard to under-stand. IF YOU DON’T ACCEPT AND UNDERSTAND THE HORROR OF SIN, YOU CAN’T UNDERSTAND THE HORROR OF THE CRUCIFIXION! Let’s take a look at the journey to the cross. The cross best proclaims the indisputable fact that we worship a caring God. It is the most popular of all Christian symbols. There is no Christianity without the cross. The cross shouts God’s words of love to each of us. It is God’s proclamation of possibility beyond the pre-sent. In it is hope for the hopeless, love for the loveless, encouragement for the depressed, and the pro-nouncement of life beyond death for those who grieve the loss of a friend or contemplate their own demise. Its importance to our faith cannot be over-emphasized, its proclamation must never be subdued. It screams, "God cares!" As I look at the cross today, I cannot help but think of the movie the Passion. Few movies in my life have had such an impact. Jesus being beaten in the courtyard. The sound of the hammer on the nail rings through the air, the cross rises until it suddenly thumps into place. And yes all the blood. We are reminded that the blood of Jesus cleanses us from all sin. He was the sacrificial Lamb. At Calvary, God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself. The blood of Christ pouring down the cross restored our relationship with the Father. We cannot fully understand the mystery of God’s plan to recapture a creation that went astray. We only know that all who come to the cross in simple, trusting faith are cleansed by his blood and find peace with the Father. By his death Jesus has unchained us. He has set us free from the wages of our sins and has set us on the positive pathway of a life with God. Our eyes no longer need to be downcast; our head has no reason to be between our knees. We are no longer oppressed with our weighty sins, because we have been touched by God. He has cared not just a little but powerfully. His power encountered our sin, and it was no more. His in-credible desire to rescue us in spite of everything dispels even the worst sin. But we must be wise enough to permit ourselves and our sins to be encountered by that desire. So should I see the movie again? This has to be a personal decision. I have talked to some who feel it was a faith centering experience in their life. I have heard from some that it has no value, that it is exploiting our de-sire to see violence. I do know this, at our services, when I hold up the bread and said, take and eat, THIS IS MY BODY GIVEN FOR YOU, do this in remembrance of me”. Then the words when I hold up the cup of wine, “This cup is the covenant in my BLOOD, SHED for you and all people for the forgiveness of sins.” Then as I am distributing communion the words I use during lent, “This is the body of Christ BROKEN for YOU.” I now have a much more powerful picture in my mind. It has changed me. Good or bad only time will tell. Pastor Tim

Please remember to keep your secret pal in your prayers and drop her a note now and then. We all enjoy

getting something sweet in the mail, don't we?

Prayer Partners—The confirmation students have just seen the movie,

“Overcomer,” and one of the main themes in that movie is Biblical self-esteem. It

seems as if many of our children suffer from low self-esteem these days.

So this month, we will focus on praying for our prayer partner children to develop

a strong Biblical self-esteem that is rooted in the realization that they are God’s

workmanship, created in Christ Jesus. The accompanying Bible verse is Ephesians 2:10 – “For we are

God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”

If you are staying at Aurora Hospital you will need to let the church know of your stay. AU-RORA HOSPITAL does not NOTIFY US of any members hospitalized.

If staying at Mercy Hospital you need to inform the hospital that you would like your church to be notified of your stay. If we do not receive a call from you or the hospital we are to understand that the members do not want a visit. Mercy Medical makes their telephone call to the church early in the morning, so if you enter the hospital later in the day, we may not be informed until the next day.

Each individual or someone from the family should make sure that the hospital is properly informed if you would like a pastoral visit. We understand some people do not desire to be visited when they are in the hospital, and we will respect those wishes.

EGG CARTONS NO LONGER NEEDED

The EDUCATION COMMITTEE is sponsoring an "empty cans" collection whenever there is a 5th Sunday in a month. The purpose of this collection is to fund the school kits that we assemble each year for Lutheran World Relief. On those 5th Sundays, we will be asking for donations to be used to purchase school supplies (notebooks, pencils, pens, scissors, rul-ers, etc.) for the kits that are shipped out to school children all over the world. Our first collection is March 29th. We will also take a collection on May 31, August 30, and November 29.

Lloyd Vogel is an investigative journalist who receives an assignment to profile

Fred Rogers, aka Mr. Rogers. He approaches the interview with skepticism, as he

finds it hard to believe that anyone can have such a good nature. But Roger's em-

pathy, kindness and decency soon chips away at Vogel's jaded outlook on life,

forcing the reporter to reconcile with his own painful past.

The Possibilities Children’s Choir for children ages 3-5th grade is in full swing! They meet on

Wednesday evenings, from 5:30 – 6 p.m., downstairs in the Temple Room. The choir is currently working on a special production for Mother’s Day and would love to have some additional members join in—new voices are always welcome! Questions?? Contact Beth Sell (376-0935) or Julie Kessler (267-8543).

Our Mid-winter’s Afternoon picnic on February 16th was lots of fun for the families who were

healthy and able to come! The snowball fights, ice fishing and building a snowman seemed to be the biggest hits of the afternoon!

Supporting our Missionary, Rev. Alex LaCappelle

We are a church that rolls up our sleeves and gets to work. Over 240 ELCA missionaries serve in more than 40 countries around the world, invited by global church partners to work together hand-in-hand. Some are doctors in rural areas. Others teach children where there are few oppor-tunities to go to school, or work in seminaries that prepare pastors and future church leaders. Others support, nurture and preach in some of the fastest growing Lutheran con-gregations in the world. And still others are young adults, engaging in a life-changing, year-long experience through the Young Adults in Global Mission program. FELC continues to support Pr. Alex LaChappelle who was the Country Coordinator for the Young Adults in Global Mission (YAGM) in the Republic of South Africa. He mentored ten young

adults through a year of international faith-based service. 2019 was a year of change for Pr. Alex. He now resides in Kenya and is part of the Nairobi International Lutheran Church. No matter where or how they serve, every one of these missionaries needs our prayers, support and gifts to succeed in their work. Your gift connects you directly to these missionaries. You make their life-changing ministry happen. Please join us in God’s amazing work. As we begin our Lenten focus on support for mission work, thank you for your prayers and financial support. Our sponsorship goal for 2020 is $6500.

Breakfast Club

Rob Abraham and Dave Kiselewski are again leading Breakfast Club every Sunday morning at 9:15. in the youth room upstairs. If you are in middle or high school, please join us!

WINTER CANCELLATION POLICY: If school is closed all day or releases early = no confirmation class. If weather worsens after school, we’ll decide by 4:00 PM. Call Pastor Tim at 312-1361 or check your e-mail. (If you want to be added to our e-mail addresses please call the church office at 231-9890.)

The next question that was asked is who is responsible for putting things on the website, Facebook. It is suggest-ed that we look for someone to do this and other media events for us. 5th Sunday “noisy can collection”– Education Committee ---- During the months that there are 5 Sun-days, on the fifth Sunday during the children’s sermon time an extra offering will be collected to cover the cost of the school kits.

Pastor Tim shared with us that the Sheriff’s Department wants to use our facility as a class for Active Shooters. They are thinking about Saturday, May 23rd, 2020. Members would be encouraged to participate along with
