Lisa SullivanFrom: William Johnstone [[email protected]]Sent: Tuesday, August 26, 2003 2:28 PMTo: [email protected]: AAL Document Request #1

Analysis attached. In general, there is a similar compliance level compared to United, with the notable exception of the absence of allACARS and timeline info in the American response. On the other hand, the AAL records on conversations withthe the flight crew (but #11 only) are somewhat more useful than United provided.Major questions about the AAL production:

    1) As mentioned above, under item #1, no ACARS or timeline data was provided. In addition no statementswere provided from Vanessa Minter (who took the call from #11 FA Ong) or from someone named inNydia Gonzales' statement on that same call only as Winston (presumably his first name). Finally, noexplanation was provided on why the recording of the Ong call cut off or why no recording was made ofthe Sweeney (another FA on #11) call to Woodward.2) On Item #4 (assuming the FBI requested similar info from both UAL and AAL), compared to the UALsubmission, we received no passenger or checked bag lists for the hijacked flights, no crew identificationor training history for those flights, and no check-in info for the flights (including counter personnelinvolved).3) On Item #8, we received much of a report from Globe Aviation on screening operations at its checkpointsat Logan on9/11, butstatements from the personnel involved were omitted, with the following explanation(apparently from Globe GM Ellen Hirsch): "I am informed that due to issues of attorney-client privilegeand legal work product, the request for employee statements must be made to the Globe Aviationattorney listed below: Paul V. Kelly, Kelly Libby & Hoopes, Boston, MA (617)338-9300." Also, Globeindicates that all of its checkpoint log books and other paperwork from 9/11 were submitted to the FAA,which in turn informed Globe that they had turned it over to the FBI. No information was provided by AALon screening operations at Dulles or on its Ground Security Coordinators on duty on 9/11 at Logan andDulles.

I thought the following documents provided by AAL might be of particular interest:

    1. Statement from Nydia Gonzalez and PARTIAL TRANSCRIPTof Ong-Minter call2. Statement from Michael Woodward and FBI report onSweeney-Woodward call3. Various documents (including e-mails) on AAL's security response leading up to and including 9/114. PNR data for previous flights taken by 9/11 hijackers5. A long list of other AA L flights (none apparently on 9/11 though) of interest to the FBI6. The materials supplied by Globe Aviation on screening operations at Logan

The following AAL personnel of interest were identified (and I will add to our database):

    a. L.A. Wansley, Managing Director of Corporate Security (he conducted the interview with Gonzalez)b. Evy Nunez, who worked with Michale Woodward and had apparently received a report on the #11stabbings prior to Sweeney-Woodwardcallc. Bob Johnston, GM, AAL at Logan Airportd. Captain Craig Chilcote, Flight Safety Investigator and at AAL HQ on 9/11e. Winston ?, last name unknown, who was referenced in the Gonzales interviewf. Vanessa Minter, who took the call from #11 FA Betty Ong
