Climate Change (CCC)
The Centre for Climate Change was inaugurated on 20 July 2018 at BIRD, Lucknow. Shri S K Pattanayak, IAS, Secretary, Dept. of Agriculture, Cooperation and Farmers Welfare, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare; Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad, IAS, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change; Dr. Harsh Kumar Bhanwala, Chairman, NABARD; Shri H R Dave, Deputy Managing Director, NABARD; Dr.Konrad Uebelhoer, Director, Indo-German Biodiversity Programme and Environment, Climate Change and Natural Resource Management Programme;

First, there was tree planting by the Chairman,
NABARD, Shri Harsh Kumar Bhanwala followed
by the Walkathon. Faculty Members and staff of
BIRD, the residents of BIRD Campus, NBSC
Campus, their family members and trainees took
part enthusiastically.

43rd Meeting of the Governing Council
(GC) of BIRD Lucknow
43rd GC Meeting was held on 20 July 2018 under
the chairmanship of Dr. Harsh Kumar Bhanwala,
Chairman NABARD and Chairman of the GC.
During his address, Chairman shared that BIRD
had expanded its client base, and the satisfaction
index of people being trained here was higher. He
highlighted some areas which needed further
focus, especially, research and the steps being
taken to rejuvenate the same. He pointed out that
BIRD needs to focus on quality, content and need
of the client to whom the courses are being
offered. Smt. T S Raji Gain, Director assured the
GC that the BIRD will focus on areas of
diversification of clients, CSR, sectoral theme
based programmes, training, consultancy, etc. in

Programme Design Workshop for CCC in
collaboration with GIZ and Acclimatize
BIRD Lucknow in collaboration with GIZ and
Acclimatize conducted 2-day Programme Design
Workshop for the upcoming Centre for Climate
Change at BIRD Lucknow. Focus was on
designing effective training programmes on
climate finance bringing in international best
practices in learning and helping the Centre in
developing climate finance training modules. The
best practices and innovative methods on the
following topics were deliberated during the
workshop:
Review of NAFCC Projects of all the States
by DMD at BIRD
Shri H.R. Dave, DMD NABARD and Shri S.A.
Pande, CGM, FSDD, HO NABARD reviewed the
progress in implementation of Climate Change
projects in different states under the NAFCC, GoI
on 21 July 2018 in a review meeting held at BIRD
Lucknow representative from the Ministry of
Environment and Forests, GoI was also present.

S.A. Pande, CGM, FSDD, NABARD HO
reviewed the progress in implementation
of NAFCC projects
Programme on Corporate Governance (25-
27 June 2018)
Programme on Corporate Governance for the
newly elected Chairmen and members of BoDs of
DCCBs of the State of UP was conducted at BIRD,
Lucknow. 33 Chairmen and 18 other BoDs
attended. The programme was also attended and
participants were addressed by Shri Mukut Bihari
Verma, Honble Minister, Dept of Cooperation,
GoUP, ARCS (Banking), Cooperation Dept, GoUP
and MD, UPStCB.

Mitigation, Climate Finance, Renewable Energy
Products, Solar Powered Irrigation, Innovations
in NRM, Integrated Dairy Farming, Soil and
Moisture Conservation Measures, etc. A field visit
was arranged to the solar off-grid Mini Power
Plant of 27KW at Pipargaon village, Hardoi
district in association with M/s OMC Power Ltd.
The plant supplies power to mobile towers, fuel
station, small business units and retail customers.
During the valedictory session, Smt.T.S.Raji Gain,
Director, BIRD urged upon the participants to
implement green financing initiatives in their
Bank and make it a part of the Banking activities/
Businesses.

BIRD celebrates World Environment Day
The World Environment Day was celebrated by
Faculty and Staff members of BIRD, Lucknow on
5th June 2018 Dr. Abdhesh Kumar Gangwar,
Head, Centre for Environment Education (CEE)
Himalayan Region, was the Chief Guest on the
occasion. Participants attending training Program
on Green Finance, which was being conducted by
BIRD also joined the celebration.

Programme Design Workshop for CCC in

at BIRD, Lucknow(10-11 July 2018)
The team of experts from GIZ (Ms. Emilia
Holdaway, Mr. Alexis Brakhan, Mr. Thorsten
Hlzer & Dr. Shailendra Dwivedi) and
Acclimatize (Ms. Jennifer Steeves) guided the
Workshop. Followed by the workshop, GIZ team
also interacted with all stakeholders of CCC viz.,
Commercial Banks, Cooperative Banks, RRBs,
Government Departments, FPOs and NGOs to s
assess their capacity development needs.
BIRD Lucknow conducted Programme on
Green Financing
The programme was attended by 31 officers from
Commercial Banks, RRBs, Cooperative Banks,
MFIs and NGOs from 10 states. As part of the
programme, inputs were given on Green

Training Programmes
June 2018
BIRD, Lucknow conducted 18 training
programmes (15 In-Campus and 03 On-
Location) during June 2018 of which were
attended by 391 participants.
July 2018
BIRD, Lucknow conducted 20 training programmes (15 In-Campus and 05 On-Location) during July 2018 of which were attended by 427 participants. Of these, the customized programmes are:
i. A training programme for IES Officer Trainees
ii. Training of Mater Trainers on IVCS was conducted for Officers of Meghalaya Basin Management Agency.
iii. A programme on Creating High Performance Organizations was conducted for Senior Officers of Pragathi Krishna Gramin Bank.
Shri Raj Kumar, Joint Director and Officer-in-
charge, BIRD, highlighted the importance of
celebrating World Environment Day on 5th June
every year and indicated that the theme for the
World Environment Day 2018, "Beat Plastic
Pollution" should be adhered to by all of us. Dr
Abdhesh Kumar elaborated on simple steps
required in everyday life to bring in much needed
improvement to our environment, He appreciated
the green campus of BIRD and urged upon one
and all to be sensitive to environment concerns.

Shri Sumanta Chaudhuri, IAS, Managing
Director, Small Farmers Agri Business
Consortium (SFAC) New Delhi visited BIRD on 22
June 2018 and addressed the participants in the
Workshop on Uniform Guidelines for Policy and
Programmes on FPOs. Dr.A. R. Khan, GM, FSDD,
NABARD, HO Mumbai also graced the occasion.
Smt.T. S. Raji Gain, Director, BIRD shared her
views and offered suggestions to make the FPO
movement successful. Representatives of NIRD,
IRMA, POPIs from different States and Tata Trust
participated in the workshop.
