MOREHEAD STATE UNIVERSITY UPOBOX 1100 MOREHEAD. KY 40351 606-7 83-2030
MOREHEAD, Ky. --- Beverly McNutt, a Horehead State University
graduate assistant from Maysville, has applied her fine arts training '
to practical graphics as part of her work in the Appalachian
Development Center (ADC).
McNutt received her A.B. degree in art education (Magna Cum Laude)
frdm MSU in Spring 1983, and that fall became a graduate assistant to
Garry Barker, ADC communications coordinator. By the time she completes
her H.A. degree in May, McNutt also will have completed two years of
professional graphic design and paste-up work.
According to her supervisor, McNutt's performance has been
exceptional. "Beverly delivers professional quality artwork on a tight
schedule," said Barker. "I give her the job and get out of the way.
~ihat impresses me most is that Beverly--a 20-hour per week graduate
assistant--functions more as a full-time staff member. We certainly will
miss her when she graduates."
McNutt has designed logos for the Appalachian Writers Association
and the Northeast Kentucky Beef Improvement Federation. She produced
posters, signs, banners, and the catalog for the recent NKBIF sale. She
has done artwork for posters and flyers advertising the Great Clean-Up,
the Appalachian Celebration, the Kentucky Logging Show, the Appalachian
Arts & Crafts Market, and numerous small business workshops. She has
designed brochures for clients of the Small Business Development Center,
plus charts and illustrations for the ADC Research Report Series.
Beverly McNutt 2-2-2-2-2
Most recently, McNutt did original illustrations for magazines
publishing short stories by Barker. Her work will appear in the
May/June issue of "The Mountain Spirit" and the Winter/Spring issue
of "Appalachian Heritage." Barker, a Fleming County native, is the
author of "Fire On The Mountain," a book of short stories.
McNutt, the daughter of Mrs. Ruby Morgan of Haysville, graduated
from Mason County High School in 1979, and returned to do her student
teaching at Haysville High School in 1983. Her senior exhibit in MSU's
Claypool-Young Gallery was in Spring 1984. During the summer of 1984,
HcNutt spent five weeks in Madrid, studying Spanish and Spanish artists;
she was selected by the Kentucky Institute for European Studies through
a competitive application process.
"Going to Spain was the highlight of my life," says McNutt. "I
would encourage more students to take advantage of the opportunity to
live and study abroad."
She plans to teach this fall, but McNutt always has a skill to offer
other employers. "Working at ADC has been good practical experience,"
she says. "I've learned a lot about design and printing, and have been
encouraged to totally complete projects from concept to finished
product."
More information on MSU's graduate assistant program is available
from the Graduate Office, Morehead State University, Morehead, Ky.,

MOREHEAD, Ky. --- Kimberly Moore, a senior at Morehead State
University, has been selected to serve as an intern for the Office
of International Programs during the second summer session of 1985.
She will prepare written and photographic publicity materials
on the Cooperative Center for Study in Britain and will also be
taking a class in London, England.

said her tour will benefit both her and MSU.
Moore also will compile a presentation of 100 slides to be
used at Morehead State University to encourage more students to

MOREHEAD STATE UNIVERSITY UPOBOX 1100 MOREHEAD. KY 40351 606-7 83-2030
MOREHEAD, Ky. --- The Morehead State University Board of Regents
has tabled action on a one-year contract extension requested by
President Herb_ F_ Reinhard.
Dr. Reinhard, who assumed the presidency on a two-year contract
last July, said he was "surprised, but not overly surprised" by the
board's 5-4 vote to delay a decision.
"The vote says a lot for the future direction of Morehead State
University," he said, adding that he would begin looking at other
opportunities_
"I did not come here to be a one- or two-year president," Dr.
Reinhard said_ He also noted that he believed that the majority of ·
MSU's alumni, faculty, students and the local community was not
respresented by the vote.
Dr. Reinhard, who was inaugurated as MSU's ninth president two
weeks ago, said he would not again place his request on the board
agenda. "If the board comes back to me with an offer, I'll be glad
to discuss it, but I may have several questions to be answered," he
said.
Regents in favor of tabling the request were Mrs. Patricia A.
Burchett of Paintsville, who proposed the motion; Walter W. Carr of
Morehead, Circuit Judge James M __ Richardson of Owingsville, Eunice
Caston of Winchester and Faculty Regent John Duncan.
President Reinhard 2-2-2-2-2-2
Voting against the motion were Dr. Forest M. Skaggs of Lynch,
Lloyd Cassity of Ashland, Board Chairman Robert M. Duncan of Inez,
and Student Regent Michael Fox of Olive Hill. Harry LaViers Jr. of
Irivne was absent.
Earlier, the Regents approved a $39.2 million operating budget
for 1985-86 and ratified a seven percent increase in tuition which
was mandated by the Kentucky Council on Higher Education. However,
the Regents also eliminated 89 individual course fees.
The operating budget, increased by $1.3 million from last year,
includes a three percent salary increase for university personnel.
Campus officials were authorized to sell three MSU-owned houses
and to gradually phase out two mobile home parks near Morehead.
In other action, the Regents:
--Awarded the 1985-86 banking services contract to the Peoples
Bank of Morehead, the 1984-85 audit contract to Kelley, Galloway and
Co. of Ashland, the 1985-86 medical services contract to the Morehead
Clinic and the 1985-86 student insurance contract to Guarantee Trust
Life Insurance Co., represented by Bellamy Insurance Agency of Morehead.
--Approved the appointment of an 11-member mission and long range
planning committee composed of representatives from the Board of Regents,
faculty, students, MSU Foundation and the Alumni Association.
--Granted tenure to seven faculty members, promoted 13 others, and
approved sabbatical leaves for five more.
--Renamed the Palmer Development House which has been renovated
to house the University fund raising programs.
