Ohio Valley Conference action opens on two fronts tonight as Morehead State University's men's and women's teams host the squads from Middle Tennessee State University.

For the women of Coach Mickey Wells, 5-0 on the season, this game is the first ever in the newly-formed women's division of the ovc.

The Eagles, led by Donna Murphy, defeated Northern Kentucky in their last outing, 81-69, for their first win at Highland Heights.

Murphy, averaging 17.4 points per game, is one of four Eagles averaging in double figures . Others are Michelle Stowers, 15.2; Debra Ames, 13.8; and Leigh Anna Dunlap, 10.4.

Coach Jack Schalow's men's Eagles face a tough opening test in Middle Tennessee's OVC favorites.

Last season's OVC representative in the NCAA Tournament, Middle is led by Sleepy Taylor and AII-OVC center Bob Martin and is the favorite to win the conference race again this year.

The Eagles are coming off a third place finish in the Pacemaker Classic at Monroe, La. , losing to Northwestern (La.) State University, 78-75, and defeating the University of Denver, 80-75.

Herbie Stamper continues to lead the team in scoring with a 24.4 point average. Others in double figures for MSU are Butch Kelley at 12.3 and Brad LeMaster at 11.8.

Due to his generous loan of an automobile to the basketbal I program, Art Litton Ford of Flemingsburg deserves a great vote of appreciation for its support of Morehead State University basketball.
