From your Parish Finance Council: We must say it loud and clear: our parish income does not cover our parish expenses. We have cut expenses. If we cut expenses more, significant services would have to be eliminated. We have advised Fr. Bill to keep operating expenses at the current levels, and to try to focus the parish on the offertory. We must all understand that our parish can only be what we make of it. It is up to us to provide the funds that are needed to run the parish. We have the ability to create a great parish. We give our time and talent generously. We must also give generously of the financial resources God has given us. He will use them and us to accomplish great things. Have you told God how much you will give back to Him in the coming year? And have you told Him how much you will keep for yourself? Please give it prayerful consideration. The entire parish thanks you for joining with them to help make our parish a thriving worship community.
Explanations of financial statement line items: A - Operating Deficit. It's not the first number, but it's probably the most important number. It
tells us that our total normal expenses were $95,511 more than our total normal income last year, and $151,712 in the previous year. These losses are not sustainable on a recurring basis.
B - Bequests. These are gifts left to the parish in someone's will when they die. You can see that
last year we were very fortunate to receive $138,888 of bequests and we used most of that amount to fund our operating deficit of $95,511. By their nature, bequests are one-time gifts and cannot be relied upon to fund operating needs. More importantly, we do not honor our deceased parishioners by spending these gifts in this way. We want to use them on projects that improve the parish in a visible way that memorializes our loved ones.
C - Releases of Restricted Funds. These donations were given to the parish by donors with an
understanding that the money will be used for a specific purpose. These funds are tracked separately from our operating funds (see Note F below) and when expenses are incurred for the intended purpose, we release that amount of funds to the operating budget ($187,562 last year). The most common restricted donation has been our second collection which was restricted for parish improvements until it was changed on July 1, 2017 to be available for normal maintenance expenses too.
D - Capital Improvements. Money spent as requested by the donors who gave it (see Note C
above). Some of these improvements could not have been afforded if not specifically funded. E - ECC Deficit. This is the amount of money the Early Childhood Center lost. There was a
loss of $1,608 last year and $12,853 in the previous year. F - Cash Designated or Restricted for Capital Improvements. This section of the financial state-
ment reports changes in restricted funds available for the purposes they were given. Last year we received $100,950 of our parish share of Forward in Faith (the Diocesan capital cam-paign). We told parishioners these funds would be used for remodeling bathrooms and building a prayer garden. We also received $114,580 of other donations with a restricted purpose, primarily the second collection which was restricted for capital improvements. We transferred $187,562 of these funds to our operating budget to cover that amount of funds spent on capital improvements. This included $149,352 to replace the roof on the parish hall, $26,000 to replace an air conditioner for the parish hall, and $39,061 to refurbish the rectory. The rectory was a rental duplex left to the parish in someone's will in FY 2015, along with enough money to refurbish it.
En Primer Plano Praise God! I am the Pastoral Care Coordinator here at Light of Christ, which means that I am here to support all of you who are responding to the Lord’s call to serve Him and each other in ministry in our parish. I also have the pleasure of performing many of the tasks of Sacristan, which is essentially preparing the church for the liturgical celebrations in our parish. In this role, I am able to spend a significant time in the church in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament and I’ve been given the gift of a profound love of the Mass and of the celebration of the Holy Eucharist. I am blessed in marriage for 38 years to Phil, and together we are blessed to have seven daughters. We are originally Michiganders, but just this week, we are buying a home here in Clearwater and so becoming Floridians! We came here two and a half years ago to be with Phil’s Mom, not knowing where we would end up after her passing. Your warm welcome and compassion, and the genuine Christian love you continue to share with us each day make it abundantly clear that Light of Christ is truly our home and our family. Thank you! ¡Alabado sea Dios! ¡Gracias!

8:00 Crowd This is the quiet, peaceful at Mass at Light of Christ—
and it isn’t because these parishioners are still
asleep! These are the early risers of our parish family, those who are up
and going while the rest of us are still on our first cup of coffee. And, they
are likely to head out to breakfast together after the Mass is finished.
Many of the folks at the 8:00am Mass have spent years together at Light
of Christ, actively participating in ministries such the Catholic Men’s
Association, the Council of Catholic Women, Men’s and Women’s Retreats,
and Marriage Encounter. You will witness several Eucharistic Ministers to
the Sick and Homebound on their way to take Jesus in the Blessed
Sacrament to our Catholic brothers and sisters in nursing
homes and to parishioners who are unable to come
to Mass.
