How to use the Journal Editor tool in System 1
1 To the right are some examples of how Journal Entries can be used. Note: Availability of the Journal Editor feature depends on your profile configuration. If it is not available, contact your system administrator to request this feature.
♦ Add written comments about any item in your Enterprise ♦ View specific history or background information about
specific components, machines, areas, plants, etc. ♦ Benchmark process changes, inspections, or other
procedures ♦ Notify others concerning the status of a procedure or the
results of testing
2 Your goal should be to preserve important information or instructions that will assist other System 1® users. See examples in the pane to the right.

3 To access the Journal Editor, right-click on a highlighted Enterprise component, and select Journal Editor from the resulting menu. In this example, the dialog would list and display any existing entries that were made for the component named 'Ethylene Building'.
4 In this example, the ALU1 Air Compressor #1 has been selected. A Journal Entry is being made for this component and the entry is being recorded in the Event Manager for the Enterprise. The Journal Editor selection is available from the component level of the Enterprise Hierarchy in System 1 Display.
5 In the Enterprise and Instrument hierarchy of Display (and Configuration) a User would want to know whether the Segment ID (SID) in the hierarchy (tree) has a journal or document associated with it. The Journal Editor / Docuview symbols show you which components have a Journal entry, a Docuview entry or both. (Docuview will covered in another issue, but the procedure is similar. Docuview will let you attach any file to a component in the hierarchy)

6 Journal Entries may be viewed as a group by selecting the highest level in the enterprise for which you want to see the Journal Entries, right click and select “Journal Editor” (see step 3 previous page). Once the Journal Editor screen opens, check “Show Sub-Level Entries”
7 Journal Entries may also be shown in Report Form by selecting > Tools > Reports > “Journal & Inspection Report” in the System 1 Display Main Menus. Use the “Interval” tab to specify the date range for the report.
