more than 41.5 million attack sensors, recording thousands of events persecond.
monitors threat activity inover 157 countries and territories throughacombination of Symantec products and services.
Over 8.4 billion email messages are processed each month andmore than 1.7 billion web requests filtered each day across 14data centers.
Symantec maintains one of the worlds most comprehensivevulnerability databases:
more than 60,000 recorded vulnerabilities (spanning more than twodecades) from over 19,000 vendors representing over 54,000 products.

ISTRBrief description
2013 - a new era of mega breaches that resulted in biggerpayouts and shifting behavior for cybercriminals.
Total number of breaches in 2013 increased by 62% from 2012,with 253 total breaches amounting to more than 552 milliondata records exposed. By comparison, 2012 only saw a single
data breach that surpassed that threshold.
Targeted attacks were up 91% and lasted an average of 3 timeslonger compared to 2012.
In 2013, there was a 61% increase in zero-day vulnerabilities
compared to 2012, with 23 zero-days discovered. Governmentmoved to the top sector of targeted attacks.
There were 6 times as many ransomwareattacks, which grewby 500% in 2013.

For Businesses:
Know your data: Protection must focus on the information not
the device or data center. Understand where your sensitive dataresides and where it is flowing to help identify the best policiesand procedures to protect it.
Educate employees: Provide guidance on information protection,including company policies and procedures for protectingsensitive data on personal and corporate devices.
Implement a strong security posture: Strengthen your security
infrastructure with data loss prevention, network security,endpoint security, encryption, strong authentication and
defensive measures, including reputation-based technologies.

How to Maintain Cyber Resiliency
For Consumers:
Be security savvy: Passwords are the keys to your kingdom. Usepassword management software to create strong, uniquepasswords for each site you visit and keep your devices including smartphones updated with the latest securitysoftware.
Be vigilant: Review bank and credit card statements forirregularities, be cautious when handling unsolicited orunexpected emails and be wary of online offers that seem toogood to be truethey usually are.
Know who you work with: Familiarize yourself with policies fromretailers and online services that may request your banking orpersonal information. As a best practice, visit the companysofficial website directly (as opposed to clicking on an emailed link)if you must share sensitive information.
