SWECET Primary Schools
Keep-In-Touch
Issue Thirteen 3.7.20
Developing our people Nurturing our differences Aspiring for excellence
Dear Parents and Carers,
This will be the last SWECET primary schools’ Keep In
Touch” edition as next week our individual schools will
resume their own newsletters and they will include key
information for the ending of this term and the
proposed plans for September specific to each school.
We are all planning carefully for September and are
hopeful that we will be able to open for all year groups
following the Government announcement. Please
keep checking your emails throughout the summer as
it is likely that we will be in touch to keep you up to
date with any changes imposed by the Government.
The Government has published guidance in the last
24 hours detailing how it is their expectation that
schools will be open for all children in September and
so we are planning on this basis in each of our schools.
Here is the link for the parents’ guidance:

coronavirus-covid-19-outbreak
Our last two weeks of home learning work will be
available on our website as usual from tomorrow and
we have tried hard to ensure that for those children
who are still at home, there is a good offer focusing
on basic skills. As many of our teachers are now back
in school, it is just not possible to offer the same
quantity for the last two weeks.
We are very much looking forward to welcoming all
children back in September and our individual
newsletters next Friday will have detailed information
on the arrangements.
Kind regards,
Ms Pumfrey and the Leadership Teams in our schools
International Joke Day 1st July
As it was International Joke Day on
Wednesday, we asked for children
to send in their favourite jokes.
Thank you to the girls who did so:
A joke from Tess:
Q: ‘What is a shark’s least favourite name?’
A: ‘Annette’ (A net)
A joke from Keira: Knock, knock ...... Who's there?
Ginger.
Ginger who? Ginger hear the doorbell?
Home Schooling Work For Weeks 13 and 14 The work for the final two weeks
will be on our websites from
midday today. However, as
advised, we have had to reduce our offer slightly and
so the focus is on the core subjects of English and
Maths for the last two weeks.

Win 50 books for your school with
While We Can't Hug
In these strange times, books can really help children to make sense of the
world - books like the gorgeous While We Can't Hug from Eoin McLaughlin and Polly Dunbar. The pair have collaborated on a sequel to The Hug,
which followed Hedgehog and Tortoise as they tried to find their perfect cuddle partner! Now, in While We Can't Hug, the duo know they can't get too close, but soon find other ways to show their love for each other. The book shows how we can all connect, even when we can't physically touch.
To celebrate While We Can't Hug, The Book Trust is delighted to team up with Faber to offer you the chance to win 50 books for your school! To enter, share photos or videos which show how you've been enjoying each other's company while
distancing - just like Hedgehog and Tortoise.Tweet your entries to @BookTrust and @FaberChildrens,
making sure you include the hashtag #WhileWeCantHug, by the closing date of 25 July.

News Links for Children
In school each week, teachers use
a range of news stories to keep
children aware of the wider world, interest them in
what is happening and to develop their general
knowledge and interest.
While we are closed, you may wish to use these links
with your children to read the stories together and to
discuss them. There is a definite “good feel” theme
this week!
Coronavirus: Warrington woman, 102, makes
'miraculous' recovery - BBC News
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-manchester-

This might be worth sharing with children to reassure
them about the virus.
Puppy believed stuck in rabbit hole for two weeks
comes home - BBC News
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-wiltshire-

This is quite remarkable and will make children smile.
Isolating ex-soldier leaves 'uninhabited island' - BBC
News
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-north-east-orkney-shetland-53129414 Talk about what it would be like to be completely on your own for a long period of time. What would you do to pass the time? First Viking ship excavation in a century begins in
Norway - BBC News
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-53204948 Of real interest to all those girls and boys who love the
Vikings, archaeology and ancient history.
