COMMENTS

“Early Purple II” is the second of four yachts built on the Farr-Nauta 93’/95’ project. She combines the famous hull lines and the powerful sail plan of Farr Yacht Design, with the concept and the Italian style of Nauta Yacht Design and the handcraftsmanship of Southern Wind Shipyard.

“Early Purple II” was launched in 2001. She is fast and easy to sail with the minimum of crew, intuitively an ideal yacht for blue water enjoyment. Under her current ownership since 2010, she has successfully completed a circumnavigation, including detours to South America, New England and Scandinavia. In 2014, she returned to her birthplace in Cape Town and underwent an extensive maintenance period under the management of Southern Wind Shipyard.

On deck, she features a two-cockpit arrangement where the forward cockpit is a safe area for guests to relax and take meals and the aft cockpit is dedicated to the operation of the boat and sail control. The flush deck layout is both practical and safe, allowing easy access and movement for the crew and guests. Both cockpits are protected by spray hoods and the center cockpit features an over-boom sun awning. Access onboard is via a retractable passarelle, conveniently recessed in the transom which features a hydraulically operated swim platform, illuminated at night by underwater lights. Below deck, the Italian styling is evident in the handcrafted teak finished interior. The full-beam saloon features a six-person dining table to port with a comfortable settee to starboard. Three guest cabins are located forward of the saloon and a fourth cabin, that may also be used as a Captain’s cabin, is located aft. Moving further aft along the corridor, the crew area combines the galley, nav station, engine room access and two additional crew cabins, all with direct access to the deck via the aft companionway. In recent years since completing her circumnavigation, Early Purple has been based in the Mediterranean and subjected to a rigorous maintenance program, some recent highlights include:

• Repainting of hull, mast and boom • Rig service and new rod rigging • New running rigging • RINA class survey • New sails

Currently lying in Barcelona, Early Purple is available to visit by appointment. From April 27 to May 1, she will be on display at the Palma Superyacht Show. Contact our office in Genoa for additional information or to arrange a visit.
