Nanotechnology in Remediation (Environmental clean up)
Removal of pollutants and contaminants from environment as nontoxic
substances
In remediation technology mainly use: living organism (i.e. (bioremediation)
microbes, fungi, bacteria, plants etc.), chemical substance (i.e. metals NPs,
polymers) and many nano scale materials (i.e. metal oxides, carbon nanotubes,
nanoscale zeolites, fibres etc.)

Nano based sequence bioreactor has been designed and developed by Prof.
M.H. Fulekar in 2009 for the bioremediation of hazardous waste with the
special reference to dye stuff effluents.
In the first reactor the physicochemical and microbial characterized effluents
will be taken where in TiO2 nano based semiconductor will be used under the
influence of UV radiation for the oxidation/reduction and chemical degradation
of dye stuff effluents.
Nano biosensors will be used to observe rate of chemical degradation of the
hazardous compound present in dye stuff effluents.
First reactor was connected to second bioreactor through the peristaltic pump
where mycorrhizal soil amended with Gold NPs/sand/gravel will be arranged
one below the other on perforated plates at the bottom inside the bioreactor for
trickling the contaminants.

This technology will be useful to the Petrochemical industry and Chemical
industry which generates the waste containing compounds such as phenol
