Spurring a Transformation for Agriculture through Remote sensing (STARS)

STARS is a research project which is looking for ways to use remote sensing technology to improve agricultural practices in Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. Supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the project hopes to significantly advance the livelihoods of smallholder farmers in some of the world’s poorest countries

• Monitoring small-holder production systems • Providing small-holder friendly services, support food security

policies and enhance farming practices • Remote sensing of land tenure • Monitoring of cropland and crop condition to provide

information for food security policy • Surface water use to grow second crop in the dry season • Knowledge portal as first port of call on the use of remote

sensing

Ethiopian Education Network to Support Agricultural Transformation (EENSAT)

The academic and organizational capacity strengthened to deliver graduate students and practitioners that contribute to a demand-driven, gender sensitive and market oriented approach towards food security, making use of the opportunities provided by GI Science An applied research program is in place that aligns with GTP II/MASP development priorities, supports the educational curricula of university and training partners, and relates to the needs of the public and private sector A bridge has been established between the public and private sector that frames the research and education profiles, stimulates spin and entrepreneurship and strengthens the collaboration with business centres

Information Services for vegetable farmers in indonesia (SMARTseeds)

The project SMARTseeds will implement a financially sustainable information service that supports 100.000 chili, tomato and cucumber farmers to increase their production, income, and food security and to reduce the inputs of water, fertilizer and pesticides.
