Surveys! Did you know that in an average month 60% of South Australians aged 15 and

would take the time to fill it out. The surveys can be left at the church, re-

turned to us via the Christian Family Bookshop in Berri, or sent or dropped

into the station. ALL feedback is appreciated and valued!

On our hearts is the desire for a broadcast cara-

van! Caravans are great for radio broadcasting -

they can be easily fitted out for the purpose and

anywhere - for example the Field Days! The

2011 Riverland Field Days

This year we plan to have a site at the Riverland Field Days (14-15 September). We

took last year off and used the opportunity to just visit sites and chat to businesses

about station sponsorship. But this year we hope we can have a site in a family

friendly spot where there is lots happening!

New Developments Jason and I recently journeyed to Mt Gambier to visit the Christian radio sta-

tion, 104.9 Lime FM, to look at some radio programming software. The soft-

ware is used to schedule and program all the bits of audio that make up a

broadcast, prepare it for transmission and run it to time. There are a number of

computer-based systems available that do this job. Large commercial radio

stations can spend thousands of dollars on systems that automate many of the

processes that put the broadcast content together, and not just in the purchase

price of the software but also in paying a regular license fee (the top range

programmes can cost $12,000 per year in fees alone.)

Lime’s General Manager, Pete Whiting, was very hospitable and set aside the

day especially for us, to demonstrate their system. We were very impressed

with the capabilities of the software. Once the initial setup was done, we

would be able to reduce the time taken to schedule programming, from hours

to literally just seconds. Perhaps even more impressive is the price tag. Even

buying it already set up on a computer, it is likely to cost us less than $2000

(the final price will depend on the value of the Australian Dollar and Custom

Duty).

We’re hoping that soon we will be able to get a system that will suit our needs

and save us many hours per week that can then be better spent on other things.

This is a high priority project for 2011 and any support will be gratefully re-

ceived.

We give thanks for the opportunity to daily encourage people through

radio ministry. We pray that we can grow and develop in our effectiveness.

We pray that financial resources will grow so that we can meet our

regular transmission costs at the Loxton tower site.

We pray for new methods to improve our programming processes, so

that we can better use our time and other resources.

We give thanks for our members, donors, sponsors and volunteer

helpers, and pray that the Lord would bless and prosper them.

Dr Michael Youssef is presenter of ‘Leading the Way’, aired on Riverland Life

FM each Sunday at 8:00 am. He is coming to Australia for a series of capital

city meetings and his topic will be ‘Sheep Among Wolves’.

Born in Egypt and now based in the USA, Dr Youssef first became a pastor,

married, and started family life in Australia. Singer-songwriter Steve Grace

will be joining him at each venue.

‘Now, as Christians are experiencing attack, harassment and ever increasing

persecution around the world, even in the west, the temptation is for us to pull

back and hide behind the church pews. In Matthew 10:16, we have this call, I

am sending you out as sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes

and as innocent as doves. Come and be encouraged by a great time of praise

and worship of God, and be blessed and challenged by His Word as we unpack

what it means to be sent as SHEEP AMONG WOLVES.’

Also, listen out for the new ‘Superkids’ radio spots by

Gold Coast Children's Pastor Andy Kirk (pictured be-

low) targeting an upper primary-early youth age audi-

ence and coming soon to Riverland Life FM.

Programming News Riverland Life FM Music program, The Reality Zone, was wound up last

month. Over many years, The Reality Zone team recorded hundreds of inter-

views with musicians and youth culture commentators. We have begun a new

program in it’s place, Behind The Music, also sourced from Wes Jay at Wood-

lands Media. Behind The Music runs for half an hour and showcases the mu-

sic of a particular artist or band.

Two episodes of Behind The Music are aired each week - 8pm Saturdays and

8pm Wednesdays.

This year we concluded ‘Life Matters’, the long run-

ning series of inspirational radio spots by Adelaide pas-

tor, Hans Voortman, as no new content was being re-

corded. In its place we are now running ‘The Life Min-

ute’ by Ben Windle (pictured left), Pastor at Life Place

Church in Carindale, Queensland. Ben has a great take

on what people go through every day and how to deal

with daily problems. The Life Minute can be heard daily

at 9:50am and 2:50pm on Riverland Life FM.

‘So much of today’s media is negative, it teaches

kids how to pay out, put down and speak harmful,

discouraging words to others. The

‘Superkids’ radio spots are designed to release

children to be free to encourage, lift up and basi-

cally ‘speak life’ into other people without feeling

like it’s the wrong thing to do,’ Andy says.

Andy Kirk is Children’s Pastor of Metro Church

on the Gold Coast and Queensland Kids R Us

Director along with his wife Christie. For the

past 12 years they have been pastoring children

and have a passion to see kids grow to their full

potential in life.

Superkids will air on weekdays at 3:50pm.
