Who is the service for? Momentum Skills’ addiction service is a 12-month programme for people who wish to move on in their recovery from alcohol and/or drug addiction. This service is available to people aged 18 years and over, who live in Glasgow West and who are stable on prescribed medication.

What does the service offer?Tailored to meet the needs of each person, the service works with people on a one-to-one basis to identify goals and to create a personal development plan. A link worker provides information and advice on a range of services, including:

- Personal safety training

- Counselling

- Support groups, including family and women-only groups

- Detox programmes

- Addiction-specifi c support

- Housing advice

- Debt and benefi t advice

- Coping strategies

The service also offers or facilitates access to group work, through outdoor education and sporting activities. This is where participants have the option of participating in external activities in small groups. This helps with developing skills in team-working and problem-solving as well as building confidence and improving health in activities such as canoeing, mountain biking, gorge walking, rock climbing, badminton, five-a-side football and abseiling.

Throughout the programmeThe programme works with individuals to identify suitable next steps that will assist them further along in the road to recovery. This might include moving on to:

- Employment

- Personal development courses

- Vocational courses and qualifications

- College access courses

The programme works with a range of agencies to assist you in achieving your goals, including:

- Glasgow Volunteer Service

- Glasgow Regeneration Agency

- Skills Development Scotland

- Jobcentre Plus

How do I sign up?Referrals can be made by an agency such as social work services or community addiction teams or, alternatively, people can refer themselves. For further details, contact the service.
