Real-Time Overhead Calculation

With this feature, you can calculate overhead as soon as journal entries have been created. By calculating

overhead in real time, you gain immediate transparency on both the sending cost center and the receiving

cost objects, and you remove one of the steps from period close (when overhead is traditionally calculated).

You can transfer primary postings from financial accounting (FI) to management accounting (CO) with the

business transaction CO Through-postings from FI (COIN).

The overhead is calculated on the basis of the costing sheet, which determines the following data:

• The journal entries that are relevant for calculating overhead (for example, material costs and

machine time)

• The conditions under which overhead is to be applied (for example, for orders in a particular plant)

• The percentage that is to be applied

• The cost center that is to be credited (for example, the warehouse cost center)

Note

Activating this business function may lead to higher data volumes because you apply overhead to each

of the relevant journal entries.



Effects on Customizing

In order to calculate overhead in real time, you must complete the settings in the following Customizing

activities under Controlling Cost Center Accounting Actual Postings Period-End Closing

Overhead Maintain Realtime Overhead Calculation

• Activate Realtime Overhead Calculation (transaction RTOHC01)

• Activate Overheads for Controlling Area and Business Transaction (transaction RTOHC02)

Caution

If you change the time period and remove Customizing entries, it can lead to inconsistent data in

productive systems.

Note

If you have activated a controlling area using the Customizing activity Activate Realtime Overhead

Calculation , you can no longer deactivate this controlling area. The controlling area is active if you have

selected the Realtime Overhead Calculation checkbox. This feature is intended to prevent

inconsistencies during a period or a year.

In addition, once you have activated the controlling area and the business transaction, you can no

longer execute the standard overhead transaction. When you execute a business transaction for the first

time, a message appears.
