I had the pleasure to interview a crusty subculture representative from Finland.

Who are you and what you want to tell about yourself? Im Antti. I come from Finland, Turku. I like bikes, music, freedom, love and drugs!

What subculture do you represent? I guess I am a crusty. Fashion crusty, welfare crusty, fashion dude, punk rocker, bike punk rocker and hippie. My style is a mixture of many kinds. I would describe it practical, dramatic and anarchical.I I want stylish clothing. I can go to the bar in the same clothes that I x bicycles with. On the other hand hip hop and heavy metal culture has a strong inuence to me.

What is the crusty culture manifesto and ideology? People with whom I hang around and which I consider to belong to the same "kennel" are pretty extreme ideological people. In fact I'm pretty mild compared to many of my friends. It is even a little amusing how closely some of my friends take into account even a smallest sexist tone of the sentence. For example some girls get really upset if they are called " a girl".AAnti-fascism, liberality but at the same time we have the exact pattern of behavior. Many are vegans and there is also people who are teetotalist. The most important thing is to be strongly approving. Although different ideologies within the subculture, liberalism brings us all together. Also a very free and polygamy relationships are part of the crusty culture. It is even slightly expected.

How this is achieved in general in crusty lifestyle? FFinns are welfare crusties. We can't even talk about crusties when it comes to nns. We are living with welfare, with little salary and some people are students. We give time for hedonism, relationships and for all that we love. It is typical to live like a hippy, but be more energetic and more efficient in think-ing.PPeople like to keep their diet's and philosophy strict. I am also a that sort of a man, that I have to take my bike everywhere I go, but that's because I'm cycling activist. We really live for the things. There are also people in the crowd who make graffitis and street art. They wan't to spread the good and truthful message. Many crusty punks living abroad are really poor and broke. Things are a little more authentic in a way. They are declaring the real issues of social & physical abuse. People really get beaten and receive mis-treatment from the society. They also talk about this mistreatment in their lyrics. On the other hand in Finland, this freedom allows punks to be more academic and a slightly higher level in thinking. For this reason, Finland and Sweden has the leading punk scene in the world. Punk music and culture is highly developed in these countries.

How does this philosophy and vision can be seen in your own life? I'm a true bicycle activist. I am against racism and homophobia. I'll try to avoid capitalism. We organize bike events, bike polo tournaments and all kinds of competitions.

I do I do volunteer work in a bicycle shop. I am trying to develop a well-being and get people to under-stand the technology and transport. I do not get that car hell and stupid people in traffic jams. I scav-enge a lot and I'll try not to think money. I believe in free life and free relationships.

How did you become a part of this subculture?I've always been a little punk. Then, little by little I began to slip further and further. I started to think a little differently, and I saw the world in a different way. I lived in poverty. I met in a short time an incredible number of people, all of them very different. I guess it makes me for who I am. It was not a decision. Everything just came with the life.

What kind of clothing you wear? Is there a visual style signatures in crusty culture? TThe basic crusty punk uniform ABC is black boots or sneakers, black skinny jeans, black shirt, vest or motorcycle jacket and sewn patch in the garments.Oh well, before the real crusty punks smelled bad. Clothing was actually broken and they lived in a garbage can. Especially abroad. In The States there live crusties who hide in the trains. They just travel around and never wash them self.

TToday is a wonderful freedom to be anything. Colors black and grey makes crusty style recognizable. From the fabric marks you can identify the hiding crusties or punks. You can combine skinny jeans, black Vans sneakers, boots and leather jacket with anything.I like how the man can be feminine and women can be masculine. These aspects can be emphasize by clothing.

Is there dress standards or common ways in clothing? WWe have quite high norms and standards. Clothes must be some way ethical and it is recommended that they are recycled. If the clothes have logos, we don't show them.

Colors are always dark. Various shades of black and gray. Camo clothing is generally cool, THOUGH one camo clothing at a time. Dress codes are humorous but they are still present and part of the lifestyle.

Materials are usually cotton, wool and hemp. Leather clothes share opinions, but for example, leather boots and leather jackets are generally accepted because they can withstand heavy use.

What are the subculture of social, cultural, political and historical inuences? CCrusty and deeper political punk ideology came to Finland with hardcore punk in the mid-80s.The rescission in Finland contributed that the crusts became really angry and drunk. In spite of the demo-cratic opportunity to vote, Finland was still lacks behind other countries.

Can the subculture be limited by race, age or gender? Can not. I hope so, and this is something that I believe in. Nothing should be limited by the age and certainly not because of sex or race.

What music do you listen to? Wide range of punk, folk, heavy metal, a lot of rap, electro, jazz and indie music. Really widely every-thing. At the moment, In the punk music I like especially the new black Swedish crusty sound. Also from Spain comes some "d-beat" music that pleasant me. I like punk to be fast, angry, aggressive and strong melody works for me.
