Pastor Paul Ponders

Have you ever asked God to break your heart for what breaks His? We have seen some recent parables in our sermon series that encourage us to serve. We serve by giving of ourselves as Jesus did, and does for us every day. What passion has he placed on your life? I’m writing this article on the day that our city sponsors “Omaha Gives”; an opportunity for people to learn about various organizations that serve the people of our community. On this day, people all over the Omaha metro will donate money to these organizations. The sponsors hope to raise millions! If the broad range of people and beliefs in our community can dig deep and give generously to these people who ‘serve’, it should give us pause to think about our ‘service’ too. We, as Christians, are the ones who have been given the ultimate model of servanthood found in our Savior and Leader, Jesus Christ. He has also given us a command to serve in the same way he has. Is our service up to His expectations? Or do we allow convenience, or schedule, or prejudice, or fear keep us from finding the project or organization that would be the vehicle for us to serve as He served? From every servant who has been given much, much more will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked. Luke 12:48b Pastor Paul

Coffee with the Pastor

There will be no Coffee with the Pastor meetings during the summer months of June, July and August.

Prayer Meeting

Monday, June 4 at 6:30 p.m. All are invited.

We will not meet in July.

Stewardship Ministry News for June May saw the completion of the walls to enclose the storage in the Fellowship Hall. We so appreciate the help of Mark Steele and his son Lucas, as well as Lucas’ friend, Spencer, who drove from Beatrice to help with the project. We are thankful for this improvement in God’s house. The exterior lighting for the parking on the west side of the building is yet to be decided on. For this security need we need to find a more reasonable cost for providers. The Stewardship Team will have volunteers watering the planted area in June, July, and August. Thanks to each of you who have committed to this ministry.

All-age Adult Sunday School News for June June will see the two remaining topics shared from the series Life Principles To Live By. These topics are The Valley Experiences in Our Life and Anticipating the Lord’s Return. Beginning June 17th, we will study I Never Thought I’d See the Day! by Turning Points Dr. David Jeremiah. This 10-session DVD study “... examines nine changes in our world that he never thought he would see – and a biblical evaluation of each.” The tenth message strengthens the messages: “...- the Church must remain ‘salt and light’ during these cultural and spiritual changes,...” Please, pray about attending the all-age adult Sunday school on Sunday mornings for 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. in the upstairs classroom. Come and grow in faith and fellowship with us. Child care is available. Contact Ron Reed, [email protected] with questions or interest.

Christian Support Group Some of our fellowship are embarking on a new adventure in which we wish to support each other through our various struggles. Some of us may need help to stick to our diets, some of us may need help to give up alcohol, others may be mourning the loss of loved ones. If you are interested in being part of a group learning to turn it all over to God, we invite you to come and check it out. Our June meetings will be on Monday the 11th and 25th each at 6:30. We hope to see you there!

Men’s Group Study News for June The all-age Men’s Group Study meets at the church on Tuesday evenings from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. We welcome the men, young or older, to join us as we grow together. “Iron Sharpens Iron,” as the Bible points out. We are currently reading Mere Christianity by C. S. Lewis. In the week prior to the Tuesday evening discussion, we read the assigned pages, then we openly discuss the material we studied. We grow in faith, pray and fellowship together, and would welcome others to join us as they are able.

Ministry Council Meeting May 21, 2018

Attendees: Paul Marine, Pastor; Gina Slechta, Moderator; Scott Darden, Treasurer; Ron Reed, Stewardship; LaShawnda Woods, Discipleship; Traci Gilmer, Missions/Outreach; Jason Workman, Security/Safety; Ken Vetter, Pastoral Relations; Todd Ray, Music/Worship Absent: Pam Hamlin, Shepherding Ken Vetter opened the meeting with prayer. Pastor Paul opened with a devotion about the attitude of serving Christ. Scott Darden presented the Treasurer’s report. Ron Reed made a motion to approve the report, and Ken Vetter seconded the motion. All were in favor. A full treasurer’s report is available in the church office. A nomination was made to elect Scott Darden as Vice-Moderator by Ken Vetter. Ron Reed seconded the motion. All were in favor. Other positions the council is working to fill include Clerk and Prayer Ministry team leader. We are grateful for the leadership Pastor Molby has provided in this ministry. The Darden family would like to donate a garden bench in memory of their parents. The bench will serve as an area of peaceful, outdoor reflection. Nathan Swearingen is proposing this as an Eagle Scout project. Scott and the Stewardship team will continue to work together to recommend a location. Ron Reed reported that he is seeking a fireproof cabinet for historical documents. Pam Hamlin provided a written report for Shepherding. The team continues to work with visiting shut-ins, working with nursery staff, card ministry and the care area for Shepherding. The department has exceeded the budget for this quarter due to the number of funerals in the church. LaShawnda announced plans for an Ice Cream Social with more information available in the future. The Council voted to move the monthly meetings to the 3rd Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m. The next meeting will be June 18. Other items on the council agenda for future discussion include: • Missions-future joint church projects • Outdoor Lighting • Winter Weather Closing Procedures
