RSc.D.. president of the Church of Religious Science conferred recognitions and made awards of honorary doctor- ates in religious science and the humanities to several distiguished guests. There are no Institute de- grees awarded practitioner students, but successful completion of the course is required before application can be made to the Found- er's church for a profession- al Religious Science practi- tioner's license, according to Mrs. Louise Dixon of the South Bay church. New Pastor Speaks At Harbor Church Rev. Russell A. Gabler of Costa Mesa, pastor of the newly-organized Harbor Bi- ble Church, 501 E. Lincoln, Wilmington, will preach his initial sermon at 11 a.m. to- day. "Practicing the Preemin- ence of Christ," based on Colossians 1:18, will be ser- mon topic. Rev. Gabler accepted the Wilmington call, following his unanimous election to the local pulpit last Sunday. He has served as pastor of the Central Bible Church in Costa Mesa since 1957 fol- lowing three years' sjprvice as pastor of the First Friends Church of Los An- geles. Previous to his duties in Los Angeles, he served as pastor of the Oak Park Christian Church of Savan- na, 111. from May, 1945 to July. 1953. The Rev. and Mrs. Gab- ler, both graduates of the Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, met while they were students. They are par- ents of three children, Grace Marie, 14. Allan Russell, 12, and Daniel Lee. 9 years old. In 1948, Rev. Gabler re- ceived a BA degree from Wheaton College in Illinois. He followed his studies at Wheaton with work at the Theological Seminary of the University of D u b u q u e. Iowa and was granted the bachelor of divinity degree from Fuller Theological in Pas%dena in 1956. In addition to his duties as pastor of the Wilmington church he will continue as a part time instructor at Biola College in La Mirada. Harbor Bible Church was recently organized as a mer- ger of the Bay Cities Baptist Church, served by the Rev. Fred McQuade for the past four years, and the Avalon Village Community Church, pa stored by the Rev. George Patter son the past nine years.
