Women’s Discipleship Class Begins Monday, February 20 at 6:15pm

This is a 6week class with no homework.

Facilitated by Patti Tocci.

We all spend our days worshipping someone or something. What do your life, your words, your behavior, and your priorities point to as the object of your worship? If your desire is to worship a holy God, you need to know how to

approach Him with the right attitude and goals. In this study you will examine what the Bible says about, how, when, and where we are to worship God in spirt

and in truth. As you discover for yourself how the Old Testament tabernacle reveals a pattern for entering God’s presence, you’ll be equipped to move

beyond dry rituals or superficial expressions to a lifestyle of authentic worship.

In January, we experienced the historic demolition of our old sanctuary building. Our Master Plan Team is currently studying the building needs of the church. The Master Plan team is charged with matching ministry needs with construction costs and best available land footprint.

A meaningful place of worship, fellowship, discipleship and ministry has gone before us, and now we anticipate what God has for our future. A physical, corporate place has always been significant to the people of God. From the moveable tabernacle traveling with nomadic Hebrews through the wilderness to the majesty of the first and second temples, each represented a place and time for God's people to corporately meet God, honor Him, and perform meaningful religious rituals and practices. In the New Testament, the Jewish synagogue was supplant-ed by Christian house churches and eventually church buildings. Worship consisted of reading and teaching of Scripture, prayers and song. Other Christian practices included discipleship, evangelism, fellowship and missions. In the last two months, I heard innumerable testimonies of memories that are spiritual markers in and through our old sanctuary building. People spoke to me about their family being born, raised, saved, married and buried through SBC. They also told me our old sanctuary building was a place they grew in love, grace and service to our Lord, his Church and our communities. For 93 years, the old sanctuary building was far more important than just to the generation that was led to build it. With new building(s) we will have great testimonies of God moving in our lives, families and communities. That is exciting! However, one of the challenges we encounter in faith life is asking solely, "what's in it for me?" Our new Christian heart demands that we see beyond ourselves and look at the wider effects of obedience and faith in God. We are given the task and blessing of providing for generations that follow. This makes our calling even greater! In his book Chase the Lion, Mark Patterson says, "One of the biggest mistakes we make is thinking in terms of one generation. It's not only short-sighted; it is also selfish. We think what God does for us is for us. And it is, but it isn't. It's also for the third and fourth generations. We think right here, right now. God is thinking nations and generations." What we do now will make a difference 93 years from now! Patterson further says, "Every generation must steward what's been entrusted to them. It starts with honoring the generation that has gone before us by learn-ing everything we can from them. But that's only half of the equation when it comes to passing along a genera-tion blessing. It continues by empowering the generation that comes after us. That's how the baton of blessing is passed to the third and fourth generation. And that is what the psalmist advocated in Psalm 78. 'So the next generation would know them, even the children yet to be born, and they in turn would tell their children.'“ We are preparing for our church's future worship and ministry in Shelby County and beyond. We are planning and building for our generation and future generations of faith with continued kingdom agenda. Let's be prayer-ful and inspired about what God is leading us to do to continue to see people come to faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. The future of SBC is now and we must unite ourselves in God's mission to realize our high calling.

PASTOR’S PEN

Next Level: God's Spiritual Toolbox - I'm saved but I want to know how to be fixed! I want to make choices that honor my Lord Jesus Christ. I want to overcome being controlled by sin. I don't know how to be changed by the Holy Spirit from the inside out. The Bible identifies the spiritual tools God provides you to grow to maturity in His grace, love, and pow-er. You may know the tools that God has given you to serve Him faithfully, but you may not know how to use them. While God's tools may be easy to under-stand and identify, why are they difficult to use? Using God's tools correctly will enable the Holy Spirit to empower you to be a mature disciple, overcoming the reality of your sin and weaknesses of your old nature and embracing your new life in Christ.

New Sermon Series Begins February 19

Master Plan Initiative Team Update

Praise the Lord! The demolition project is completed thanks to wonderful weather and excellent work. A big

THANKS to Jon Caranna and Ronnie Sowder for their excellent preparation and oversight given to every aspect of

this preliminary phase to our future building project(s). You may notice that a change order in the original plan al-

lowed us to rock and fill the hole left by removing the old sanctuary. This will provide many benefits to our church…

including a connector drive between the east and west driveways we needed to form a drop off / pick up ‘circle’

around the Fellowship Hall, plus more parking close to the FLC entrance, erosion control, and the preparation of the

future construction staging/office site. Lots of win-wins!

Water is back on in the office building and LG&E has probably reattached the gas line by the time you

receive this newsletter. We may actually save some money on the water and sewer being hooked back up to help

offset the small increase in cost to go on and rock the demo site at this time. God has truly blessed us. No injuries,

no damages and as small an interruption as possibly could be. Again PTL!!!

Soon, we will know how the decision on our variance application (needed to make the additions to the FLC

viable) impacts our planning. Also, based on approval by the church on our recommendations for a Building Team

and Prayer Team to be formed, these teams are set to begin. This is the time for the 4th gift in the Fruit of the Spirit

(Patience) to prevail. With Love, Joy, and Peace comes Patience. Romans 8: 24b-25 says, “Hope that is seen is

not hope, because who hopes for what he sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, we eagerly wait for it

with Patience.”

Patience for what we don’t or can’t see? So, what could happen? Could God clearly show us where our

new worship center should be built… after seven years of trying to figure it out ourselves? (Yelp!) Glad we were

patient! Would approval delays allow the weather to turn from single digits to spring-like tempratures when we had

to cut off the heat in our offices? (Double Yelp!) I could go on. Now, we’ll have to be patient (and joyful) in all things.

Could God provide our congregation the patience to complete a building project with little or no debt? Could gener-

osity overflow as it did in Macedonia (2 Corinthians 8) where they “begged insistently for the privilege of sharing”?

Would unbelievers take notice of the ‘church upon the hill’ building if it could be miraculously ‘paid off in advance’?

Would they ask How? Or Why? Or Who did that? The answer to all three questions is the same - Jesus is how, why

and who did and does it all!

Please pray for our congregation to stay united and harmonious with patience during this time of preparation that is

upon us to chart out our future facilities. May God make His Will clearly known to us.

The Security Team at the SBC will now be referred to as SMART. This stands for Security, Medical and Response Team. We are presently formulating a set of policies and procedures and will know more after the ministry meeting on the purchase of radios and cameras.

A close working relationship has been established with the Simpsonville Police Department, the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office and the Kentucky State Police.

A chain of command has been established with Jon Caranna as the SMART minister on call, Ronnie Sowder as the Medical and Property

Team Leader and Mike Waterman as the Security Team Leader. Ronnie will also oversee any fire code requirements. SBC is currently providing security services but the team is not yet fully operational.

There are presently thirteen church members who have expressed an interest in joining the team. The medical and security volunteers will go through an application process once the proper forms are made available and liability insurance issues have been resolved.

The SMART team will be trained in medical and security protocol and will provide protection to our pastors, staff, church members, children and the property of Simpsonville Baptist Church. We will keep the church family informed through the process.

An update from Melissa Brendemeuhl Melissa is one of our members who has been called to serve in Honduras. She services at El Rancho Ebenezer as a

house mother to orphaned children. I have been busy packing and moving to the Mission House since I arrived back from furlough. I moved in last Wednes-

day and will start work with my first medical brigade this Saturday. It is a team of 41 people from Chicago. I am looking for-

ward to being part of the team serving here and working with the North American short-term teams. I am excited about this

new door God has opened for me here. My role will consist of many things from being a hostess, to working on medical

brigade sites, to logistics, to pharmacy duties.

My prayer request and need is for more people to join my support team to I can remain in Honduras serving Christ and the

people of Honduras as His hands and feet. I need to raise $2,300 each month. I have included pictures of the beautiful mission

In 2010 Simpsonville Baptist Church took its first Kenyan mission trip to Eldoret in Kenya and served in the community of

Soy. What we experienced caused us to not only return, but to return with a method of alleviating the gross poverty we saw.

An egg incubator was donated by some team members and has been used successfully to support the most needy. This

success led to community leaders forming a non-profit, Ultimate Wings For Power, which has expanded our gift and now

reaches hundreds in the name of Christ.

Recently, through our A Hand Up ministry, we provided you with the opportunity to support Ultimate Wings for Power. We

are very excited to report that SBC families supported families in Soy by:

† Purchasing 6 dairy goats, which will be given to carefully vetted families with HIV.

† Purchasing 49 chicks of varying ages, feed and vaccines

† Paying for one fistula surgery for a woman in need.

† Paid for an education for 4 students.

† Purchasing 4 lbs of nails for welding projects.

† Purchasing 46 lbs of seed corn and beans for planting.

† Purchased one mosquito net, which can potentially save 2 lives!

Our total giving was $2,868.

We received a note from Nathan Osimeo, the director of Ultimate Wings for Power recently.

First we are very thankful for the generosity of brothers and sisters at SBC.

We have decided to solicit the aid of a properly trained health worker to teach proper nutrition to HIV positive people. She will

be key to identifying their needs and provide advice to us.

The students which have received scholarships shall be mentored and nurtured so that after school, they can join us in giving back to the communities.

Our worker trainings will always meet the needs of the job market.

There will be no double beneficiaries, where one family receives chickens and later receives goats so that we can serve more in the community. All beneficiaries

of Ultimate Wings will be united as a community hence all gifts will multiply.

Please note that it takes time to properly vet the families receiving your gifts. For those who requested contact information for your families, we will

contact you as soon as we have those email addresses in hand. Thank you for your very generous support of Ultimate Wings for Power!
