Please RSVP to Stephanie, Sara Haskell or church office by April 15th.

The CUMC Administrative “Ad.” Board met on March 20, 2018. Here are some highlights:

Pastor’s Time: * Pastor Bill reported on a Missouri Conference Rural Church workshop in Kirksville, and was encouraged by the fact that Bishop Farr does place value on the smaller & rural churches in the conference. He encouraged everyone to read the article “Mission Field: Rural Missouri” in the April 2018 issue of the Missouri Conference magazine, The Missouri Methodists. * Will be working to update the Safe Sanctuary policy.

Finance: * Income was $12,000 short of needed to make budget for January - February. * Discussion about the earlier stewardship updates being given on a poorly attended Sunday, due to winter weather, so Nathan will give another presentation soon. (Given March 25 - see page 3)

Trustees/Building & Grounds: * The Jack-in-the-Box Playschool plans to make some upgrades (paint & flooring) to the preschool rooms this year. * Steve Hahn gave updates on various ongoing and upcoming projects, and they were discussed. * Wall cabinets will be installed on the west wall of the office soon, providing much-needed storage space. * The bus and other possible transportation options were discussed. More research is needed. * Phyllis Brown shared that the city-wide clean up will be the 2nd & 3rd weekends of April, so it would be a good time to do some cleaning out, and if we need to get rid of dead tree branches, etc. * Steve Ingebritson has agreed to be the Interim Trustee Chair when Steve Hahn has to leave for his military training (anticipated long-term training to begin in the next few months) * “Brain Trust” Advisory Group Meeting scheduled for April 17th at 7:00pm Staff Parish: * Sara Haskell has been hired as our new Director of Children’s & Youth Ministries. This is a quarter-time salary position, which is based on an average of 10 hours per week, but this will vary widely depending on the time of year, events (such as VBS, WOW, etc.) See page 8. General: * Discussion of updating the Vital Ministries list. * Nathan Chitwood updated the board on the Montana Mission trip plans; they are planning on approx. 45 people going! The original plan was to work on a horseback riding arena, but with the severe snowstorm they had, that may cause the work plans to change (if there are needed repairs, etc.) The team is also planning to do some sort of community event, such as a meal or evening “VBS”, while there.

We are just a bunch of ordinary people looking for answers in all the right places. We search together, we grow

together, and we find truth together.

Each week, we read a scripture, and then have a round table discussion on the meaning and the message. There

are no wrong or right answers - everyone interprets the scriptures in different ways.

C H I L D R E N ’ S & Y O U T H M I N I S T R I E S

Let no one despise your youth, but set the believers an example in speech

and conduct, in love, in faith, in purity. - 1 Timothy 4:12 (NRSV)

Meet your New Director: Sara Haskell

“I'm hoping to create a hands-on approach to our faith and service, connecting all kids - little up to the top. I want to teach the youth how to apply their faith in everyday situations that will help them grow into stronger Christians and just kind human beings (through book studies and activities). I also am hoping to have a lot of fun stuff that they can do together (water parks, camp outs, lock-ins) as well as find some hands-on service activities they can do both locally and on mission trips.

I had thought about this position in the past, but didn't feel it was the right time. Now that my kids are a little older and one is leaving home, I felt this might be just what I needed to help keep my mind busy! And it just felt like it was the right time. I had a few people talk to me about it and really help encourage me.

I was born and raised right here in Centralia, and have been a member of this church as long as I can remember. I graduated high school and worked full time while getting my bachelor degree, which is in Business Management from William Woods. (Buel & LeAnn Chrisman are Sara’s parents; Russ Chrisman is her brother).

I have a background in insurance - mainly claims department, but started working at the Elementary school almost 8 years ago so that I could be closer to my kids. Jason and I've been married for 19 years. We have 3 kids: Kyle is a senior, graduating in May and off to the Coast Guard in August! Twins Collin and Rachel will soon be high school freshmen. We have one really spoiled dog named Raskell and a cat named Sam, and hopefully soon we will all be living at our new house!” - Sara
