Notes from the Financial Administrator:

What an incredible day Commitment Sunday turned out to be on December 11. Never have I seen so many tables decorated so beautifully. The electricity in the air was contagious. The worship experience was moving. Joy abounded in the sanctuary and the fellowship hall. New friendships were made. The food was delicious. Our people have been faithful to pray and obedient in giving. That was evident as a sense of oneness permeated the room. May our Lord bless you.

This past Sunday. I announced the totals of the three-year commit-ments and the first fruits offering. 204 family units pledged to give $1,334,931.79 over a three-year period. Our First Fruits Offering (the portion of that pledge that was given up front) totaled $304,465.93. This is wonderful! And, some have yet to turn in their commitments. We will begin the renovation of the new building soon after the first of the year. We celebrate what the Lord has provided and trust He will provide the rest that is needed when the time comes. Thank you for your generosity and commitment!

Again, many thanks are due to our Greater Impact leadership Team who work tirelessly with the best of attitudes. International Missions Emphasis in December: Focal Scripture is Acts 1:8. If you are a follower of Jesus, you are part of the task to fulfill the Great Commission. Paul says, “All of you together are Christ’s body, and each of you is a part of it” (1 Corinthians 12:27). Jesus has commissioned us to be His Heart, His Hands, His Voice through Praying, Giving and Going! Southern Baptists have fulfilled this legacy for more than 160 years. Let us, each one, be a part of sharing Christ with our LOST and DYING world! OVBC’s goal for the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering is $15,000. Please be in prayer for how you may participate in this effort!

Arthur Williams and family in the loss of his brother-in-law, Jimmie Jackson “Jack” Hughes, age 89, who passed away on December 2nd in a Florence Hospital.

Pauline Sampson (sister of Janice McKinsey) in the December 6th loss of her son, Nathan Sampson. Nathan had Down’s Syndrome and died in the hospital in Warsaw, NY.

Eric & Danielle Eiler (friends of Pat Estep) in the recent loss of their son, Travis John Eiler. Travis was killed while working as a missionary in Central Asia.

Martha Day and family in the loss of her husband, William “Bill” Day, who passed away at home in Myrtle Beach on December 12th. A memorial service was held for him on December 15 at OVBC. A private burial preceded the service. Pray, also, for Matt & Jennifer, and their daughter, June, Bill’s son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter.

Neil and Donna Trask and family in the loss of Neil’s brother, Anthony “Tone” Trask, age 57. Anthony died on December 12th, and a service was held for him at FUMC in Myrtle Beach on December 15th.

Don’t have a Bible Study group? Throughout the Genesis sermon series, Tommy Jackson will be facilitating a Bible study each Sunday morning at 10:00 am in the Church Parlor using the scripture from that day’s sermon. It will basically be a relaxed, guided discussion of the sermon passage where you have a chance to continue dialoguing about the text and/or the message! Childcare is provided during all services for babies through 5 year olds. The new system, Xtra, uses the Promiseland Bible story of the day and reinforces it with activities and games using the central theme. In this way, your child will be learning the same ideas about God whether he/she is there for one hour or an extended part of the morning. All of this learning at any hour is interspersed with age-appropriate play, music, and more.
