was found dead inside the bedroom of suite No. 3!,

at "otel #eela Palace, New $elhi. Thereafter %olice

conducted %reliminary en&uiries, which reveals that the

deceased had checked in to the "otel on '!.('.)(' at

'*+ hours. Accordingly, $$ No.33A at -.3( P was

lodged in the Police Station Saro/ini Nagar in this regard.

Sh. Alok Sharma, S$ 0asant 0ihar, was informed who

ins%ected the %lace of occurrence and conducted In&uest

the witnesses and the relatives of deceased and recorded

$elhi, along with team also visited the scene of crime.*;+7*+%7*/ Post ortem of the deceased was conducted at AIIS,

New $elhi vide P.. No. **1' by an Auto%sy 7oard of

three 5orensic $octors of AIIS headed by $r. Sudhir

%1+7;+%7*/ The re%ort from 5S#, 6ohini was also obtained regarding

&uantitative analysis of chemicals.



%;+7;+%7*/ 7oth these re%orts obtained from 5Sl, #odhi 6oad and

5S# 6ohini were sent to Auto%sy 7oard, AIIS.

%9+7=+%7*/ The Auto%sy 7oard gave subse&uent medical o%inion,

AIIS. In subse&uent o%inion re%ort, the Auto%sy 7oard

o%ined 9the cause of death in the case is %oisoning:. The

Auto%sy 7oard further re&uired that a few of other medico

legal %oints needs to be addressed by I; since the

circumstantial information are essential for medical

o%inion.

7*+*7+%7*/ In res%onse to the information sought by the 7oard,

%hotogra%hs of the scene of crime, statements of witnesses

and relatives, e mails etc. were %rovided to the Auto%sy

7oard with a re&uest that the 7oard members may visit the

scene of crime to collect any ob/ect1 material from the

scene of occurrence which may be of any im%ortance for

medical e4amination and conclusive o%inion in the %ost

mortem re%ort, as the scene of occurrence was still

%reserved.

71+**+%7*/ The Auto%sy 7oard members along with 5S# e4%ert team

visited the scene of occurrence and lifted e4hibits from

there. Sei<ed e4hibits were sent to 5S#, #odhi 6oad for

chemical e4amination.

%/+*%+%7*/ The re%ort in regard to the sei<ed e4hibits on (!.''.)('

was received and the same was sent to Auto%sy 7oard

along with other relevant treatment %a%ers related to the



deceased on the same day.

%=+*%+%7*/ 6e%ort from Auto%sy board in this matter has been

received in which auto%sy board has o%ined that all above

medical documents given by Investigation ;fficer and

detailed P.. 6e%ort including "P= conclude that the

deceased Smt. Sunanda Pushkar was neither ill nor

any disease %rior to her death. She was a normal healthy

individual. In view of the above analysis the death due to

Natural ause is ruled out in this case. The cause of death

in this case is %oisoning. The %oisoning is through oral

route, however in/ectable route too also can>t be ruled out.

hydration and salt intake she could suffer from

recurring e%isodes of dangerously low blood

%ressure. learly this must have occurred since she

was not eating or drinking %ro%erly for two or three

days.

trained in EC and have been working in $ubai for

the last '! years.

Sunanda Pushkar was a close family friend for the

last - years.

Fe are very saddened by her tragic death and even

more distressed about the media s%eculation about

the cause of her death. Fhilst I do not claim to know

the facts surrounding her death. 7eing a close friend

who ha%%ened to be a doctor I was %rivy to some

medical issues in her life. I wish to document these as

this information might hel% in determining cause of

her death.

)G In recent months there were several such e%isodes

of %lummeting blood %ressure in $ubai during her

visits here. Fhich led $r. Tharoor Hcalling from

IndiaG on her son to call me for %rofessional advice. I

was concerned that leaving fre&uent e%isode of low

blood %ressure untreated could lead to serious

conse&uences and I urged her to seek the attention of

a s%ecialist, which I understand she never did.

3G She used to bruise easily and we have discussed

this several times in %assing. A mere in/ection for

blood test or bum%ing into a %iece of furniture could

result in visible bruising. I am concerned as bruising

on her body is being discussed as inflicted in the

media.

home that it might shed some light on caused of her

Thallium

It is difficult to isolate thallium in bodily fluids. The

monovalent thaillium ion, TI D' , has %ro%erties similar to that

of the commonlyK%resent sodim and %otassium ions, NaD'

and C D' res%ectively, making identification without a

so%histicated instrumental chemical laboratory very

difficult.

Polonium-21

It is a rate and highly radioactive isoto%e. It is hard to

detect because all the radiation remains in the body. A lethal dose could be as little as a few milligrams, which could be

administered as a %owder or dissolved in li&uid1drinks.

It contains oleandrine glycosides which cross reacts gives

It is not %ossible to detect the venom by chemical analysis

the tissues than snake venom. Snake venom is a Protein and

cannot be se%arated from body tissues. Immunoassay

method may detect these %oisons but this facility is not

easily available in all 5S#>a.

=rgot alkaloids, %henothia<ine and lysergide are sensitive

and get decom%osed in the light and are not easily

identified.

The heroin H$iacetyl or%hineG is very difficult to detect as

I, Nalini Singh, knew s. Sunanda Tharoor socially

for the last three to four years.

;ver the last one year or so, s. Tharoor had started

talking to me about her %rivate life, %articularly about her

relationshi% with r. Shashi Tharoor. These conversations

were few and far between.

About si4 to seven months ago s. Tharoor had

shared her L%ain> at what she regarded as mutual romantic

interest between r. Shashi Tharoor and a Pakistani

/ournalist by the name of s. ehr Tara. She told me she

was sure that r. Tharoor and s. Tarar had s%ent three

days and nights together in $ubai in ?une L'3>, and told me

that since she had a strong Lbase> in $ubai, her friends had

informed her about the time the two had allegedly s%ent

together and s. Tharoor claimed she had L%roof> of thealleged assignation.

At ').'( am on the intervening night of ?anuary '2 th M

'* th , I got a call on my mobile from s. Sunanda Tharoor

Hfrom her mobile number ----!!*((*G. She sounded

e4tremely distraught, u%set and was sobbing. In this frame

of mind s. Tharoor re%eated that r. Tharoor and s.Tarar had e4changed intimate romantic messages, that one

message from s. Tarar im%lied that r. Tharoor was going

to divorce s. Sunanda Tharoor after the forthcoming

8eneral =lections and marry s. Tarar, and that s. Tahar

has written in a message that she cannot live without him.

s. Tharoor also alleged that r. Tharoor>s family was

Lencouraging> this Laffair>.

To my &uery if the Twitter messages %osted from r.

Tharoor>s account were genuine, she had said they were

com%letely genuine, and somebody who Lcared for her

dee%ly>, had %osted them in the %ublic s%ace. Incidentally,

she also said that she had Ltaken over the crimes> of r.



Tharoor in the IP# matter, but did not state if she was going

to Le4%ose> this matter.

Fhen I told her that she and r. Tharoor had issued

a statement that morning that they were ha%%ily married,

she said that r. Tharoor had told her that he wanted to

issue this statement, and she had told him angrily to do

whatever the Hfour letter wordG he wanted to do.

s. Tharoor also told me that she was e4teremly ill

with #o%us Hwhich she had mentioned si4 months ago, tooG,

stomach T7 and added that she now feared cancer too. She

said that she had checked herself into a "os%ital in Cerala,

and that r. Tharoor had Lnever once taken her to a $octor

or to a "os%ital>.

$uring this conversation she told me that she wanted

my hel%. ;n my asking what it was, she re%lied that she

wanted me to retrieve im%ortant 77 messages that r.

Tharoor had deleted from his 7lackberry. She added that

she needed to retrieve, these although she had a Lstock> of

such messages already with her. I asked how she would get

r. Tharoor>s 7lackberry, to which she re%lied that she

would manage that.

$uring this conversation she was /oined by somebody

to whom she asked something about LSahib>, and the male

voice answered in "indi, although I did not hear what he

said. Fhen I suggested that I disconnect if she was now

/oined by somebody else, she said that I was not to do that,

and that she had asked for r. Tharoor to come to visit her.

She confirmed that she was at The #eela "otel.

s. Sunanda Tharoor also mentioned during this

conversation that r. Tharoor had a %revious romantic

liaison with some other woman, and in this conte4t she



mentioned something about a fight from Pune Has far as I
