Dear passengers

Yours sincerelyMed venlig hilsen

Niels Sundberg

CEO

We are proud and delighted to celebrate 20 years of partnership with British Airways this year. A partnership that has developed into a fantastic collaboration on more and more routes to and from airports in Denmark, the UK, Norway, Sweden and Germany.

SUN-AIR was the first company outside Great Britain to partner with British Airways after liberalisation of the airways in Europe. British Airways was a highly re-spected and renowned airline with a very strong brand at that time, and it continues to be so.

Signing the agreement was an almost euphoric experi-ence for which we had sky-high expectations. Let me say here and now, that they have been more than ful-filled.

British Airways has always been an incomparable part-ner, contributing to the development of our company and providing us with a host of opportunities. That’s something we are grateful for and look forward to expanding the relationship to mutual benefit – especially to the benefit of our passengers – now and in the future.

SUN-AIR will open a new base in Bremen in Septem-ber, a move that has been underway for a year or so in dialogue with Airbus Group, Mercedes-Benz, Atlas Elektronik, foods giant MARS and other businesses in the area.

Bremen is a market similar in some ways to Jutland, with business customers who want to fly out and back the same day. Bremen will be home base for two Dornier 328 jets, joined by a third plane in 2017. Each has 32 comfortable leather seats and full service on board. All departures from Bremen will be flown under our fran-chise with British Airways, entitling passengers to the British Airways frequent flyer program, Executive Club. British Airways is a member of the Oneworld alliance.

Thank you for flying with British Airways – operated by SUN-AIR.

HullHull is a dynamic and energetic riverside city located alongside the River Hull and Humber Estuary. The city is rapidly becoming something of a burgeoning tourism hotspot, and offers plenty of sightseeing and a thriving social scene. In 2017 the eyes of the nation will be on Hull as it plays host to some of the world’s finest artists as part of a world-class UK City of Culture 2017 programme, celebrating the unique character of the city, its people, history and geography. Back in 1642, Hull played a significant part in England’s history when the city’s Governor, Sir John Hortham, refused King Charles I entry to the town. This act of defiance triggered the start of the English Civil War. The remains of the Beverley Gate have now been identified as a site of national importance by Historic England, ensuring its protection for future generations.

Austria’s SalzburgerLand is best known for excellent skiing, but this Alpine wonderland is also becoming a highly popular summer holi-day destination.

Paragliding over white Alpine peaks, break-neck mountainbiking on some of the best tracks in Europe and hiking in picturesque mountains. SalzburgerLand offers a wealth of activities, something that Danish tourists have begun to appreciate in increasing num-bers. A total of 145,637 visited the area last summer, an increase of 33% over a 10-year period. “With a single exception, the number of Danish tourists has risen every year since 2005, and if we look at bookings for this summer, 2016 looks like setting yet another record.

Feedback indicates that it’s the action and outdoor facilities that are most attractive, because tourists want more than just lying on a beach or next to the pool,” explains Birgit Aigner from SalzburgerLand Tourismus.

SalzburgerLand is best known for brilliant skiing, and has been the preferred winter sport destination in the Alps for Danish ski-ers for some years. But once the last snow has melted in the spring, there are more and more Danes holiday-makers heading for the Austrian alps than ever before.

During the summer, the preferred holiday is typically outdoors in the form of white river rafting, swimming in clear mountain lakes or different forms of long-distance running in extraordinary surroundings. Installing the family into a totally isolated hut on a moun-tainside off the beaten track and dropping out for a week or two is also becoming increas-ingly popular.

DESTINATIONS

Aarhus is no. 2 on the list of the absolute hot-test destinations in Europe according to Lonely Planet, the international travel guide, which pub-lished its Top 10 of the ultimate selection of Eu-ropean destinations to see this year, with Aarhus in Denmark second only to the Peloponnese in Greece.

There are plenty of good arguments for put-ting the capital of Jutland there. Lonely Planet has been combining the world for 40 years to find and recommend the best destinations, and has now fallen for the hip Latin Quarter, culinary scene and renowned museums such as ARoS,

Den Gamle By and Moesgaard, plus the stun-ning architecture of Aarhus.

According to VisitDenmark, Lonely Planet has firmly planted the Danish flag on the tourist map by putting Aarhus on the list of ‘must-sees’ for 2016, raising awareness of Denmark overall as a multi-faceted tourist destination. Whilst the Vikings bring Danish culture and history to life, Aarhus is sending out vibes of Denmark as a modern country with a highly attractive mini- metropolis with a Berlin verve.

1996 was the year in which the Danish ladies hand-ball team won Olympic gold in Atlanta; Manches-ter United became the first English club to win The Double twice – and when SUN-AIR entered into a franchise partnership with British Airways that developed into a network of routes between three airports in Jutland and 11 cities in Norway, Sweden, German and Great Britain.

The partnership was born out of the liberalisation of the airways within the EU, when the old national airlines lost their monopoly. Competition was stim-ulated and the need for new, competitive alliances between companies on an international scale was born.

SUN-AIR became the first non-British company to join forces with British Airways in an agreement signed 6 May 1996 and presented at a ceremony in Copenhagen Airport, when two SUN-AIR planes in their new British Airways livery met the legendary Concorde. The same day in fact, that SUN-AIR in-augurated its own domestic route between Sindal in North Jutland and Copenhagen.

The first route alliance between SUN-AIR and British Airways, Billund-Manchester, took to the air the fol-lowing year, and has been a success ever since.

In 1997, British Airways launched its new corpo-rate identity worldwide – including its Danish part-ner. 12 international artists were commissioned to decorate the tails of all British Airways aircraft – a flying art exhibition entitled “Wings”. Per Arnoldi

SUN-AIR and British Airways celebrate 20 years of a still-growing partnership, with new routes and high passenger service level.

The partnership entails that all SUN-AIR planes are in British Airways colours, and all scheduled flights are flown in the name of British Airways.

“Because we are a regional operator, the partnership with British Airways opens up a range of unique op-portunities, including access to a massive sales ap-paratus. We have always been given the very best support and back-up from our colleagues in London, which has meant that SUN-AIR has been able to constantly grow and develop, open new routes and provide the high level of service that British Airways and SUN-AIR are renowned for,” says SUN-AIR’s Commercial Director, Kristian Tvergaard.

was selected for SUN-AIR’s fleet, which had previously been known for its red tail fin with the ‘S’ logo.British Airways and SUN-AIR later switched to using the instantly recognisable Union Jack flag we see today.

“We are so proud that we succeeded in allying with British Airways 20 years ago. I clearly remember what an honour it felt to be the first company outside the UK that signed such a deal. We had massive expec-tations for the new partnership and they have all been fulfilled. We have learned a lot over the years, with British Airways high safety standards in particular taking us to a completely new level,” says SUN-AIR’s CEO, Niels Sundberg.

Sightseeing over London by air

By Martin DonsDanish champions FC Midtjylland not only embarked on the most important flight in the club’s history, they enjoyed a sightseeing tour over London before heading for the legendary Old Trafford ground in Manchester.

L

of wasting valuable time in a tight programme landing outside London and then transporting everybody in to town, we took SUN-AIR’s scheduled flight direct to London City,” explains Jørgensen.

As the plane ate up the miles between Denmark and the UK, there was a party atmosphere on board in anticipation of the clash with Manchester United.

“We were given excellent service on board the plane with the very best refreshments. We felt really pam-pered and the service was much higher than usual, providing that little extra touch of luxury and helping to make the occasion even more special. We certainly got more than we expected,” stated Jørgensen, who had no doubt that he would be using SUN-AIR again.

“We were delighted and more than satisfied with our choice. We will do it again and can certainly recom-mend it,” concludes Jørgensen.

Historic European campaign in legendary arenaThe flight over London was only the warm-up to a great British weekend. The highlight of the tour was a match

at the legendary Old Trafford in Manchester, where FCM arrived after a surprise 2-1 at home in Herning, shaking not only Manchester United, but the whole football world.

The club was actually founded in the same year that Manchester United won the Premier League and Champions League. But despite the difference in his-tory, wealth and prestige, FCM had already made a reputation in England earlier in the year when defeat-ing Southampton against all odds, to proceed into the qualifying rounds for a European competition for the first time ever.

Few experts expected FCM to proceed from a group consisting of big clubs such as Napoli, Club Brugge and Legia Warszawa. But the Danish champions got the tournament off to a sensational start with a home win over the Poles, followed by an away win over Club Brugge in Belgium. Maximum points after two rounds and suddenly FCM found themselves on level pegging with Diego Maradona’s form club, Napoli.

The Italians turned out to be better, but FCM fought their way to a draw at home in the final group game against Club Brugge in December to qualify for the final rounds.

That was why Old Trafford was now on the menu. The story couldn’t get much better than a European campaign culminating against the English giants, but despite the win in Herning, the hard-fighting Danes had to bow to defeat in Manchester. Nevertheless, a lot of respect had been won and fans around the world will remember the victory dance of Pione Sistos, Rilwan Hassans and Paul Onuachus in the changing room, seen by over 15 million social me-dia users.

ots of Danish tourists have seen the sights of Lon-don, including many who have seen them from

above thanks to the London Eye. But few have been sightseeing from the air.

But that’s exactly what sponsors of FC Midtjylland got when they took their places in a SUN-AIR plane at Bil-lund Airport. Within an hour, they were banking gently over Buckingham Palace, Big Ben and the Tower of Lon-don.

“Flying into London City Airport is an experience in it-self as you get to fly over London. Seeing the city spread out below you is fantastic – it’s like buying a sightsee-ing tour only you get to see all the sights from the air,”

says FCM’s Commercial Director Jacob Jørgensen, who experienced the sight of sponsors pressed against the windows to experience the approach to the airport.

“I could see them taking photos and videos as they flew over London. It was great, and easy to see that none of them had done it before,” he adds.

More than expectedBut it was not just the visual experience that was en-joyed on the trip, because landing in the heart of Lon-don is not just exciting, it saves a lot of time – something that can be important on a business trip.“We decided to give our biggest sponsors the most ex-clusive airborne experience over London, but instead

position as the leading nation in the world for offshore wind power.“It will also play a critical role in driving down the costs of offshore wind energy and ensure future generations benefit from secure and sustainable, low-carbon elec-tricity.”

Siemens and SUN-AIRSiemens played a key part in SUN-AIR establishing its new service between Humberside Airport and Billund and Aalborg airports in Denmark The service is the first direct link between the Humber – rapidly becoming established as the leading hub for offshore wind power in the UK – and the Jutland region of Denmark, which is the heart of the global offshore wind industry.

The catalyst for the service to be established is that Siemens is using SUN-AIR for hundreds of its recruits for the new wind turbine blade factory in Hull to travel to and from Aalborg, where Siemens has an existing blade factory, for training.New recruits in Hull will travel to and from Aalborg in Denmark, where Siemens has a sister blade factory, for training for varying periods of time over the com-ing months, leading up to the scheduled opening of the Hull factory in September.

Ross Dean, Siemens’ Commercial Director for the Hull project, said: “It was really important for the well-being of our people that we had a solution that would minimise the time spent travelling and maximise the time they have at home with their families. SUN-AIR

has developed this new, direct service which offers the most efficient flight times to suit our shift patterns and training programmes.”

Mr Dean said the new service also had wider bene-fits for the regions served and the renewables industry generally, as Billund is close to other operators and facilities, including Siemens’ bases in Vejle, Brande and Esbjerg. He added: “This benefits not just Siemens, but the wider renewables industry in Denmark and the Hum-ber, as it makes it so much easier and faster to move people between the two. The Jutland region of Denmark is at the heart of the global offshore wind industry while the Humber is fast becoming the centre of activity for the UK offshore wind market, which is the largest in the world. So this service connects directly these two major regions for renewables. It is very exciting.”

You can find out more about the Siemens Hull project by visiting www.siemens.co.uk/hull

The UK is the world’s largest offshore wind market and is expected to remain so, driven by the need to secure future energy supply and meet ambitious car-bon reduction targets. As the world leader in offshore wind power solu-tions, it is logical for Siemens to locate and invest in close proximity to the UK’s largest offshore wind farms in the North Sea.The investment will cement the important role of Hull and the Humber at the forefront of the UK’s transition to a sustainable, low-carbon economy.

Together with partner Associated British Ports (ABP), Siemens is investing £310m to create a world-class and world-scale centre for offshore wind manufac-turing, assembly and logistics in Hull, and the trans-formation of Hull’s Alexandra Dock, a huge site of 540,000sqm, the equivalent of 78 football pitches, is engineering on a vast scale. The development began towards the end of 2014 with preparatory works to create a new harbour for loading of part-assembled turbines for shipping to offshore wind farms; roll-on, roll-off ramps for the unloading of wind turbine components; and the partial infill of Alexandra Dock to provide additional storage areas.

The factory is scheduled to be completed in Sep-tember 2016, to allow for the production of the first blades by the end of 2016.

Development on site also includes construction of a 12,000sqm building for the service and maintenance of wind turbines and storage of parts and equipment required in pre-assembly and operational phases. It will also be the logistics hub for Siemens’ UK on-shore and offshore service business.

The UK is the world leader in offshore wind and has significant growth plans to meet the UK Govern-ment’s target of 30% of electricity generation from low carbon sources by 2020, and Siemens shares the desire of the UK Government and the industry to continue to drive down the costs of renewable energy from offshore wind.

The Hull investment is a major step forward in this key, strategic objective, as it brings the benefits of in-dustrialisation, localisation and proximity to market.

Finbarr Dowling, Siemens’ Hull Project Director, said: “This transformational investment will reduce the UK’s reliance on energy imports and reinforce Britain’s

Siemens’ development in Hull on the east coast of England is one of the company’s largest investments anywhere in the world and is the biggest ever

inward investment in the city. Hull was selected after Siemens had considered more than 100 European locations for the investment

ette – whose full name is Mette Mau – is one of SUN-AIR’s experienced stewardesses at

the tender age of 24. In fact, she’s so experienced that she is “Instructor Cabin Crew”, which means that she trains new SUN-AIR stewardesses.

“I love my job with SUN-AIR. It’s not only wonderful to deal with so many pleasant and happy passengers, but it’s also a great place to work with fantastic col-leagues and an excellent fit with my hobbies,” Mette tells us as she serves dinner on board.

“Maybe I’m a little biased because my mother was also a stewardess, and she told me lots of times what a great job it was. After completing business school and working for a while at McDonald’s, I was given the chance to enrol at stewardess school with SUN-AIR. I never looked back – in fact, I love talking to so

many different people, something I get the chance to do every day on board. Working with the flight deck crew is also a pleasure, as we form a tight-knit team, the very thing that reflects the whole of SUN-AIR. Even though you of course know some people bet-ter than others, it’s like being part of one big family when you are a member of the SUN-AIR team”.

Mette serves drinks, a cold main course, dessert and coffee during the flight, and it’s a pleasure to see how professionalism and efficiency go so well together whilst still finding time to chat with passengers. There is no sign of stress, even though there are a lot of people to be served.

Mette brings Victor Borge’s famous words “a smile is the shortest distance between two people,” to life. Her radiant smile spreads sunshine on board.

“Calle is my best friend”And no, Calle is not Mette’s boyfriend. But whoever her boyfriend is, he need not be jealous, as Calle has four legs and is a wonderful 16 year-old Danish warm blood dressage horse.

We meet Calle and Mette at Hedensted Riding Club. Calle is stabled here and Mette rides him every day.

“I’ve been riding since I was 7. I bought Calle, whose real name is Atterupgaards Carlson, back in 2010, which means we’ve been partners for 6 years,” ex-plains Mette.

“I’ve competed against the senior class since I was 17 – i.e. riders over the age of 25, most of whom are even 35. Lots of my competitors have either trained within riding or can afford the really expensive, schooled horses. My own story is a little different, as I started from scratch and have schooled my own horses before selling them and buying better ones, working my way up.”

The results that Calle and Mette have achieved to-gether have of course increased Calle’s sales value to a level equivalent to a luxury German car, but Mette has no intention of letting her best friend go. Dres-sage has a host of different classes, and Calle and Mette ride in MA, Prix St. George and Intermediate1, just under Olympic qualifying level.

The two of them have a long and impressive series of placings in a number of competitions, including winning the South Jutland Championship, a second place in the team championships for the same dis-trict, third place in the Aarhus Championships and 4th at the famous and prestigious Broholm Slot meet.

Later this year, they will take part in the Danish Team Championships.

Danish ice cream1933tradition since

craftsmanship and

Premier Is and SUN AIR offer passengers on SUN AIR flights a selection of four classic flavours of the old fashioned ice cream “Gammeldags Flødeis”. Try vanilla with rich double cream and Madagascar bourbon vanilla, strawberry with sweet Senga Sen-gana berries, chocolate with 64 % dark origin Peru chocolate or caramel twisted with a hint of sea salt from the island of Læsø.

Premier Is in the northern Danish town of Thisted is one of the oldest remaining ice cream dairies in Denmark. For 83 years,

the ice cream craftsmen at Premier Is have been passing on the heritage of the original “ismester” Sigurd Laurids Sørensen with pride and passion

– and they will continue to do so in the future.

Premier Is has always offered ice cream for any occasion. In this 1960’ies advertisement, Premier Is suggests serving ice cream as an easy, nutritious and unquestionably highly popular family dinner.

It

Premier Is employees making ice cream bars in the 1930’ies. Although production methods have evolved since those times, modern day Premier Is products continue to be made with respect for traditional ice cream craftsmanship.

all started in 1933 in the small town of Thi-sted, when dairyman Sigurd Laurids Sørensen bought the dairy “Pasteur” in the center of

town. Until then, “Pasteur” had been supplying the towns’ inhabitants only with basic dairy products such as milk, cream and butter. Sigurd – who was educated in the dairy trade at a family-run dairy in Rønbjerg - was one of the first dairymen in Denmark to learn how to make ice cream in the late 1920’s. This knowledge became a passion for Sigurd, who loved ice cream. He took this knowl-edge and passion with him to “Pasteur”, where he started making ice cream right away, thus making it possible for the towns’ inhabitants to enjoy this freshly made novelty dessert. Sigurd knew the value of using only real cream and the best ingredients in his ice cream - and that served him well. The popularity of his ice cream grew rapidly, and so did the little ice cream dairy, which many years later became known as Premier Is. Not only did Sigurds business grow and flourish: his family did as well. Sigurds wife Jenny, who also helped out at the ice cream dairy, gave birth to two sons. Finn and Jens Jørgen, who shared their fathers’ passion for ice cream, got his proud crafts-manship under their skin from an early age. In 1967, Sigurds sons were handed over the responsibility for the ice cream dairy, while Sigurd took over the role of the experienced dairyman and a highly valued source of advice.

As the production and popularity of the Sørensen family’s ice cream grew, space at “Pasteur” in the mid-dle of town was getting more and more scarce. So in 1970 the Sørensen family built a new, modern ice cream dairy in the vast fields on the outskirts of town. They bought the land from a farmer – and the old farm house from back then actually remains until this day today on the premises of the modern day ice cream dairy. Inspired by the original purpose of the land they were building on, the Sørensen family named their

new ice cream dairy “Mejeri-gaarden”, which one could translate to “dairy farm”.

The family began to sell their ice cream under the brand name “Polar Is” after they mo-ved to their new production site. Since 1970, Mejerigaarden and Polar Is has continuously grown and taken over a num-ber of other Danish ice cream brands.

In 2009, the traditional brand Premier Is, which originally stems from southern Den-mark, also became part of the Mejerigaarden family with all production located in Thisted.

Since then Premier Is has developed into Mejeri-gaardens leading brand making high quality ice cream for both in- and out of home consumption, with popu-lar products such as the old fashioned scoop ice cream series “Gammeldags Flødeis”, the luxurious ice cream stick range “Ismesterens” or Danish summer classics such as the ice lollies “Lynstang”, “Kæmpe Læske” or “Astronaut”.
