Summ( )n?

Summ( )n is a team of practitioners that work with the futures. We help people to imagine and construct more diverse and more interesting possible futures, experience and ‘play’ with them, and explore their implications for today’s activities. Most importantly, we help people to prepare for these new emerging realities – by changing and transforming themselves, by learning the new knowledge (and unlearning some old one).

Why futures?

We believe that thinking and exploring possible futures is a too important task to neglect. It is human capacity to imagine and constantly probe multiple futures makes us humans, but thinking about possible futures is never an easy task, especially when these futures become ever more complex, and approach us with an exponentially increasing speed.

Co-creating and co-exploring futures

At Summ( )n we help to co-create these possible – and desirable – futures, through an active dialogue and collaboration of many agencies: people, organizations, institutions, businesses. We make sure that this dialogue is serious but also engaging and enticing. We construct immersive spaces and environments where people can truly experience new qualities, new facets and features of the possible futures.

Playing with the futures

To achieve this immersion into possible futures, Summ( )n applies a wide range of tools, from online platforms and virtual worlds to entirely ‘analogue’ environments, and everything in between – hybrid spaces, interactive installations, multimedia performances, contemporary art. We use the latest developments of game design and specially developed gameplays that allow people to suspend their current assumptions and disbelieves and let them explore the new realities with open eyes (and other senses).
