What is the difference between horror magazines and music magazines?Horror magazine Music Magazines

The difference between horror magazines and music magazines is the typical conventions: horror films will generally have dark colours and scary fonts, they look quite clustered as well. Whereas music magazines are brightly coloured, neater and usually have the main image taking up most of the front cover.

• Dramatic/suspense music helps to create fear and the feeling of the unknown

• Montage including music and small snippets from different parts of the film all building up to one scene.

• Flashing images so only glimpses of the movie is available because sometimes too much can give the whole film away.

• Sound effects (Creaking doors, scraping of knifes, screams)

• Abandoned location helps to create the feeling of vulnerability and fear.

House of wax Cinematography A high angle shot is used to show the deserted street with just one person walking down it this makes the subject look venerable and an easy target.

SoundIn this screen shot the protagonist is screaming this is a typical convention of a horror film and can often be used after a long suspense to make the audience jump.

Editing The writing in the Montage appears to be melting these conventions appear to fit well with the theme of wax throughput the film and makes the writing more interesting to read.

Mis-en-sceneIn this scene it is used to create suspense and highlighting the stereotypical conventions of a horror film, using cages and mechanical looking equipment to create a feeling of vulnerability and capture.

HUSHCinematographyThis camera angle is an over the shoulder shot is used to show the audience a feeling of realization and loss from the protagonist point of view

Sound Sound is used in this scene to show pain, this is to make the audience feel sorry for the protagonist and feel sympathy.

Editing Here editing is used to show the audience the title of the film, but it is edited in such a way that it looks eerie and spooky while also providing the same of the film. Mis-en-scene

In this scene mis-en-scene is used to relate back to another scene in the trailer, the audience will relate this image to the previous scene and start to feel that something may have happened to this character.

Final Destination 3CinematographyThe camera angle in this scene is an establishing shot as the camera follows the ride down as it rockets towards the ground, this gives the audience a feeling of being in the scene as they follow the characters.

Sound In this scene the main sound is the protagonist screaming as she is falling, as this sound is the main focus to the audience they will not notice all the other soundtracks playing in the scene, this helps the audience to feel sympathy for her and metaphorically experience her fear. Editing

There is a montage of clips of the protagonist taking photos this makes the audience believe that it is important factor in the film.

Mis-en-scene The broken piece of roller coaster that has become derailed is flying downwards towards the camera this could make the audience feel part of the scene.
