ENRICHMENT 2013-14 SCHOOL YEARAges: Kindergarten – 5th Grade

Formerly known as “Kids Club”, Our Before & After School Enrichment program (also known as B.A.S.E.) offers a safe, enriching and fun before and after school environment for elementary school aged children. The foundation of our program is the school-age curriculum created by the YMCA of the USA, which includes: Arts and Humanities, Character Development, Health and Wellness, Homework Support, Science and Technology, Service Learning, Literacy, and Social Competence and Confl ict Resolution.

B.A.S.E. operates from 6:30am until the regular school day begins, and from school dismissal until 6:30pm. After school we serve a nutritious snack each day.

We offer child care throughout the calendar year. On most school closing days, we provide child care at designated sites. Child care is also available on full-day snow closings at designated sites, and at your home sites during snow delays. (See YMCA inclement weather policy for details during inclement weather.)

Our B.A.S.E. program will operate at the following elementary schools for the 2013-2014 school year: Ballenger Creek, Carroll Manor, Centerville, Deer Crossing, Glade, Hillcrest, Kemptown, Liberty, Lincoln, Monocacy, Myersville, North Frederick, Oakdale, Orchard Grove, Parkway, Spring Ridge, Thurmont, Tuscarora, Twin Ridge, Urbana, Valley, Walkersville, Waverley, Whittier, and Yellow Springs. KARATEBeginner, Intermediate & Advanced/AdultAges 9 and Older 5Y46KARKoryu Uchinadi Kenpo-jutsu (Old style karate art/technique) is different from most other karate schools in that our emphasis is not on competition and trophies but rather self-defense and personal growth. A completely systematized method of learning/teaching for children (ages 9 and up) and adults, honoring both the culture from which it originates and it’s master; pioneer, author, and world renown martial arts expert Hanshi Patrick McCarthy.

Koryu Uchinadi is a modern interpretation of Okinawa’s historic fi ghting art and has a functional application based curriculum employing a broad range of application based techniques such as kicking, punching, throws, chokes, joint locks, escapes, grappling and pressure point manipulation performed both as solo exercises and in functional two person drills.

Three separate classes are delivered in a safe, ethical, and traditional environment that caters to all levels of experience. Every class has a minimum of one qualifi ed senior instructor per 16 students so each student receives focused instruction. New beginner classes start every session and a parent is free to participate the fi rst session with your child. Feel free to come by Studio B on Monday and Wednesday from 5-6 pm and watch or join in.Max: 16 per class, Location: Studio C

INFORMED CONSENT AND RELEASE OF LIABILITY:

“ Hello, my name is Michael aka DJ Mike. I have been coming to the YMCA of Frederick County for over a year and a half. When I fi rst came to the Y, I was one of their well-known members. The YMCA staff and other members made me feel welcome and gave me a feeling of being “at home”. I have known a lot of the staff at the Y who all respect me, as well as being nice, humble, honest, and down-to-earth. After getting to know many of the staff, I decided that I wanted to volunteer at the Y. I became the offi cial DJ for events such as the 2012 Healthy Kids Day.

After working as a volunteer for awhile, I was offered a position as a part-time greeter. It has been over a year since I started coming to the Y and I am very happy and honored to work there. I am honored to be part of the Frederick YMCA, not only as the offi cial DJ, but also a new partner on their team for 2013. I hope people will learn from my testimonial that the YMCA of Frederick County is more than a place where people go to exercise and take daily classes. The Y is like a second home setting to many of the Frederick County citizens. On my behalf, I would like to thank, support, and honor all of my friends and coworkers that have made me feel proud to be a partner of the Frederick YMCA.”
