RELEVANCE
On September 25, 2015, at the summit of the
UN General Assembly, 193 countries, including
Russia, adopted the Resolution “Transforming
our world: the agenda for sustainable
development for the period until 2030”, which
identified 17 Sustainable Development Goals
(SDGs) and 169 goals aimed at maintaining a
balance between solving social and economic
problems and preserving the environment. The
main mechanism for reviewing the
implementation of the “2030 Agenda for
Sustainable Development” by countries is the
United Nations Economic and Social Council
Political Forum.
In 2020, Russia at a meeting of the
Political Forum will present a
voluntary national review of the
SDGs.
An international platform for discussion
and presentation of successful cases,
development of proposals for the effective
solution of the objectives of the 2030
Agenda for Sustainable Development and
the achievement of the Sustainable
Development Goals

I am glad to have the opportunity to speak at this
forum. I welcome the commitment of the Russian
Federation to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable
Development and the recent ratification of the
Paris Agreement on Climate Change.
The Sustainable Development Goals are our plan
to build prosperous, peaceful, and inclusive
societies on a healthy planet. However, despite
significant successes, we are far from achieving
them. That is why I called for a Decade of Action.
I look forward to your participation in our common
work in the name of a better future for all.
