remain hopeful that it may be possible to have the works carried out early in 2017 Teaching LiteracyMany thanks to the large group of parents who attended an information sessionlast night about literacy in the early years I would like to especially acknowledgeour Deputy Principal Kris Graham who delivered the session and responded toquestions from the floor ICAS ResultsThe school has now received ICAS competition results for writing and EnglishStudents who achieved a distinction or high distinction will be presented with theircertificates at upcoming assemblies while all others will receive their certificates inclass The names of credit distinction and high distinction recipients are also listedon our school website Tell Them From Me SurveysThe lsquoTell Them From Mersquo Partners in Learning parent survey asks parents andcarers questions about different factors that are known to impact on studentwellbeing and engagement This survey is anonymous and open to allparentscarers of Wahroonga Public School The schoolrsquos Executive and Wellbeingteams will review results and use the data to inform our 2017 school plan I wouldbe grateful if all parentscarers could complete this surveyhttpsnswtellthemfrommecomwahroonga Stage Planning Next WeekNext week all classroom teachers will be released from normal teaching duties forone day to work alongside colleagues to plan consistent deep programs to beimplemented in term 4

The freezing cold water shocked me as I forced myself to submerge myhead under the murky and mysterious mud It was so cold that Ii felt like Iwas being stabbed by one thousand little needles All at once I was out ofbreath I jumped up out of the muddy water feeling fearfully numb

The 2016 Read for Australia book was My Two Blankets written by IrenaKobald and illustrated by Freya Blackwood It was the winner of the 2015Childrenrsquos Book Council Award for Picture Books There was also a videorecording with Auslan translation This recording is still available to watchhere
Many classes watched the story online or had their teacher read ourlibrary copy

Writing Wonders Wahroonga
Teachers across our school have worked together in action learningteams during 2016 Two teams have had a focus on the teaching ofwriting
Writing samples from students across Wahroonga Public School areshared on class blogs displayed in classrooms and the office foyer Somework samples are occasionally published in the school newsletterStudent writing can also be found on this blog shy Writing Wonders Wahroonga FiveshyWeek Rich Sentence Writing ProgramLast term all students in the school participated in a fiveshyweek richsentence writing program that aimed to teach students various strategiesthey could draw on to create interesting descriptive powerful sentences
Students from Kindy to Year 6 examined exemplar texts talked about howsentences can make you feel discussed the purpose of texts the way asentence can sound to achieve that purpose and the use of richvocabulary that help build pictures in the readerrsquos mind
After modelled and joint construction they then wrote their own richsentences based on a series of images Some of the wonderful results
can be seen in the school foyer Please take a minute to have a look

In early October the Chim family from Wahroonga Public School will betravelling to Fiji They are working with an organisation called MarineReach Fiji which is a voluntary Christian organisation meeting themedical needs of Fijian people living in remote villages They will work inremote villages on Viti Levu Fijirsquos main island and they visit many of Fijirsquossmall islands to provide health and dental care as well as caring forothersrsquo spiritual needs
They hoping to take over as many toothbrushes and toothpaste aspossible to give out to families in remote Fijian villages
How can you help By bringing in a toothbrush and medium sizedtoothpaste in a clear zip lock bag and you can include a note saying hi toa Fijian child
Other items which the Chim family could take are Medical grade gauze Glucose testing strips (Biosensor SD codeshyfree or FreestyleOptium brand from a chemist) Otoscope if your parent is a doctor and has a spare one Ophthalmoscope if your parent is a doctor and has a spare one Pen pencil sharpener eraser kits in a zip lock bag Balloons Please bring any toothbrushes or other items in before Thursday ofWeek 10 so we can get it to the Chim family in time for their trip

The freezing cold water shocked me as I forced myself to submerge myhead under the murky and mysterious mud It was so cold that Ii felt like Iwas being stabbed by one thousand little needles All at once I was out ofbreath I jumped up out of the muddy water feeling fearfully numb

The 2016 Read for Australia book was My Two Blankets written by IrenaKobald and illustrated by Freya Blackwood It was the winner of the 2015Childrenrsquos Book Council Award for Picture Books There was also a videorecording with Auslan translation This recording is still available to watchhere

Writing Wonders Wahroonga
Teachers across our school have worked together in action learningteams during 2016 Two teams have had a focus on the teaching ofwriting
Writing samples from students across Wahroonga Public School areshared on class blogs displayed in classrooms and the office foyer Somework samples are occasionally published in the school newsletterStudent writing can also be found on this blog shy Writing Wonders Wahroonga FiveshyWeek Rich Sentence Writing ProgramLast term all students in the school participated in a fiveshyweek richsentence writing program that aimed to teach students various strategiesthey could draw on to create interesting descriptive powerful sentences
Students from Kindy to Year 6 examined exemplar texts talked about howsentences can make you feel discussed the purpose of texts the way asentence can sound to achieve that purpose and the use of richvocabulary that help build pictures in the readerrsquos mind
After modelled and joint construction they then wrote their own richsentences based on a series of images Some of the wonderful results
can be seen in the school foyer Please take a minute to have a look

In early October the Chim family from Wahroonga Public School will betravelling to Fiji They are working with an organisation called MarineReach Fiji which is a voluntary Christian organisation meeting themedical needs of Fijian people living in remote villages They will work inremote villages on Viti Levu Fijirsquos main island and they visit many of Fijirsquossmall islands to provide health and dental care as well as caring forothersrsquo spiritual needs
They hoping to take over as many toothbrushes and toothpaste aspossible to give out to families in remote Fijian villages
How can you help By bringing in a toothbrush and medium sizedtoothpaste in a clear zip lock bag and you can include a note saying hi toa Fijian child
Other items which the Chim family could take are Medical grade gauze Glucose testing strips (Biosensor SD codeshyfree or FreestyleOptium brand from a chemist) Otoscope if your parent is a doctor and has a spare one Ophthalmoscope if your parent is a doctor and has a spare one Pen pencil sharpener eraser kits in a zip lock bag Balloons Please bring any toothbrushes or other items in before Thursday ofWeek 10 so we can get it to the Chim family in time for their trip

The freezing cold water shocked me as I forced myself to submerge myhead under the murky and mysterious mud It was so cold that Ii felt like Iwas being stabbed by one thousand little needles All at once I was out ofbreath I jumped up out of the muddy water feeling fearfully numb

The 2016 Read for Australia book was My Two Blankets written by IrenaKobald and illustrated by Freya Blackwood It was the winner of the 2015Childrenrsquos Book Council Award for Picture Books There was also a videorecording with Auslan translation This recording is still available to watchhere
Many classes watched the story online or had their teacher read ourlibrary copy

Writing Wonders Wahroonga
Teachers across our school have worked together in action learningteams during 2016 Two teams have had a focus on the teaching ofwriting
Writing samples from students across Wahroonga Public School areshared on class blogs displayed in classrooms and the office foyer Somework samples are occasionally published in the school newsletterStudent writing can also be found on this blog shy Writing Wonders Wahroonga FiveshyWeek Rich Sentence Writing ProgramLast term all students in the school participated in a fiveshyweek richsentence writing program that aimed to teach students various strategiesthey could draw on to create interesting descriptive powerful sentences
Students from Kindy to Year 6 examined exemplar texts talked about howsentences can make you feel discussed the purpose of texts the way asentence can sound to achieve that purpose and the use of richvocabulary that help build pictures in the readerrsquos mind
After modelled and joint construction they then wrote their own richsentences based on a series of images Some of the wonderful results
can be seen in the school foyer Please take a minute to have a look

In early October the Chim family from Wahroonga Public School will betravelling to Fiji They are working with an organisation called MarineReach Fiji which is a voluntary Christian organisation meeting themedical needs of Fijian people living in remote villages They will work inremote villages on Viti Levu Fijirsquos main island and they visit many of Fijirsquossmall islands to provide health and dental care as well as caring forothersrsquo spiritual needs
They hoping to take over as many toothbrushes and toothpaste aspossible to give out to families in remote Fijian villages
How can you help By bringing in a toothbrush and medium sizedtoothpaste in a clear zip lock bag and you can include a note saying hi toa Fijian child
Other items which the Chim family could take are Medical grade gauze Glucose testing strips (Biosensor SD codeshyfree or FreestyleOptium brand from a chemist) Otoscope if your parent is a doctor and has a spare one Ophthalmoscope if your parent is a doctor and has a spare one Pen pencil sharpener eraser kits in a zip lock bag Balloons Please bring any toothbrushes or other items in before Thursday ofWeek 10 so we can get it to the Chim family in time for their trip

In early October the Chim family from Wahroonga Public School will betravelling to Fiji They are working with an organisation called MarineReach Fiji which is a voluntary Christian organisation meeting themedical needs of Fijian people living in remote villages They will work inremote villages on Viti Levu Fijirsquos main island and they visit many of Fijirsquossmall islands to provide health and dental care as well as caring forothersrsquo spiritual needs
They hoping to take over as many toothbrushes and toothpaste aspossible to give out to families in remote Fijian villages
How can you help By bringing in a toothbrush and medium sizedtoothpaste in a clear zip lock bag and you can include a note saying hi toa Fijian child
Other items which the Chim family could take are Medical grade gauze Glucose testing strips (Biosensor SD codeshyfree or FreestyleOptium brand from a chemist) Otoscope if your parent is a doctor and has a spare one Ophthalmoscope if your parent is a doctor and has a spare one Pen pencil sharpener eraser kits in a zip lock bag Balloons Please bring any toothbrushes or other items in before Thursday ofWeek 10 so we can get it to the Chim family in time for their trip

Writing Wonders Wahroonga
Teachers across our school have worked together in action learningteams during 2016 Two teams have had a focus on the teaching ofwriting
Writing samples from students across Wahroonga Public School areshared on class blogs displayed in classrooms and the office foyer Somework samples are occasionally published in the school newsletterStudent writing can also be found on this blog shy Writing Wonders Wahroonga FiveshyWeek Rich Sentence Writing ProgramLast term all students in the school participated in a fiveshyweek richsentence writing program that aimed to teach students various strategiesthey could draw on to create interesting descriptive powerful sentences
Students from Kindy to Year 6 examined exemplar texts talked about howsentences can make you feel discussed the purpose of texts the way asentence can sound to achieve that purpose and the use of richvocabulary that help build pictures in the readerrsquos mind
After modelled and joint construction they then wrote their own richsentences based on a series of images Some of the wonderful results
can be seen in the school foyer Please take a minute to have a look
