After dating long-distance for three years, they both moved their careers and lives back to where they met: the nation's capitol. It wasn't long before they were engaged during a sunset run at the National Mall. When it came time to plan their wedding, they both agreed that Italy was their dream romantic getaway and that having a traditional Catholic wedding ceremony was a priority, so where better to get married and honeymoon than Florence? Planners Chiara and Elena at Weddings in Tuscany helped the couple plan an elegant wedding that met the couple’s priority list: that it was legally and religiously valid, which isn't an easy task for Americans marrying abroad. Days before their big day, the couple and their guests enjoyed a relaxing wine tasting and outdoor dinner at a farmhouse in the Tuscany countryside. And on the morning of September 17, Carmen and Todd were married at Chiesa dei Santi Michele e Gaetano in the heart of downtown Florence. Inspired by classic Italian autumn harvest, the bride and her father rode to the church in a carriage drawn by a white horse and she carried a bouquet of David Austin roses in shades of coral, red, purple, orange and pink. Instrumental music served as a melodic backdrop to the festivities and Carmen carried a special handkerchief from her great-grandmother and crystal rosary from the groom’s grandmother down the aisle. Before joining their guests again, Todd and Carmen stole a private moment for a champagne toast and then partook in a photo shoot throughout the city, which included several landmarks. Meanwhile, their guests toasted to the couple’s happiness at a nearby bar owned by designer Roberto Cavalli. A reception followed at the Grand Hotel Baglioni rooftop terrace overlooking the Florence skyline where a guitarist played traditional Italian music during aperitifs and a seven-course, family-style dinner. Further capturing their autumn harvest theme, each place setting was marked with a card pinned to a red apple and floral arrangements that matched the bride’s bouquet ran the length of the table. After cake, guests danced the night away under the stars and Todd and Carmen toasted to a new life together.
