Hello Student Employees! With the Fall semester already in full swing, I wanted to take a moment and let you know of the great things Student Human Resources (SHR) is planning. Last semester we con- ducted student employee interviews. Based on the results, we will be working to increase communication to all student employees, revisit the student evaluation process, and place a fresh focus on training. Members from Student HR will be visiting student staffed units monthly to update you on Union issues and policy changes, get to know you and your unit, and distribute this monthly Student Newsletter. I encourage you to get to know your SHR representative, and don’t be afraid to ask questions or give feedback. This year there have been 19 cases of the flu

at the UofA, 13 of which were cases of H1N1

- the “swine flu” that has been sweeping

national media and publicity for months. It

is expected that the flu will get worse in the

UofA community, but there are many ways

that you can help prevent it. The most im-

portant action you can take is to WASH YOUR

HANDS. Washing your hands frequently with

either soap and water or a hand sanitizer

will help prevent the spread of germs.

If you do come down with the flu, STAY

AWAY! Both professors and employers

encourage sick students to take time off in

order to rest up and feel better as quickly as

possible. Campus Health advises those who

contract the flu to stay away from campus

until at least 24 hours after the fever is gone.

Should you get the flu, e-mail your profes-

sors to let them know rather than going to

class. Your professor will let you know what

to do to keep up with your coursework. If

you live on campus, inform your RA. It is also

really important that you call out from work

should you come down with the flu.

Taking these simple actions is an enormous

step in preventing serious spread of the virus

around campus. Cheers to your good health!

Jennifer Martin is a hardworking Unions em-

ployee. She started of working at Cactus Grill,

first in the new “Whipped Cupcakes” part

of Cactus Grill, which was then transformed

into “Fro-Yo,” where she acquired her nick-

name of “Fro-Yo Queen.” She worked there

for two exciting years before transferring to

the Administration Office where she now

works as the customer service assessment

finds ways to deliver top quality customer

service. She says the union is “a great place

to make friends and meet new people—I

made some of my best friends from work.”

Corona High School in Tempe where she

studied French and traveled there a couple

times. She is a junior Physiology major with a

of the chemistry club and physiology club.

She loves organic chemistry and tutors most

of her friends. That’s not all though . . . she

wants to be a dentist when she grows up.

If there is one thing she enjoys doing most in

her spare time it’s HIKING! Jennifer also loves

cake decorating and if you ever want to give

her a sweet surprise, treat her to some carrot

cake, her very favorite. If you can’t get your

hands on any, she’ll enjoy cheesecake almost

as much. Her favorite TV shows are: Heroes,
