In today’s gospel, Jesus confronted the Pharisees because of their hypocrisy, teaching them that first they need to look inward and examine themselves properly by saying that: “What comes out of a man is what defiles him”. The intentions we have in our hearts, the malice, hatred, pride, and the evil thoughts against others are really what make us who we are. There is a saying that: “The greatest enemy is our own self.” It is also the most difficult enemy to fight, because it comes with denial and pride. One’s quality life is measured by the qualities of what is within one’s hearts. The best way we can show that we are faithful to the commandment of God is only when our hearts are transformed by it; when it motivates us to pursue goodness, to love others, to avoid sin and evil; when we are moved to repent and to forgive others and; when we make effort to live a just, merciful and, honest life. Our Christianity is expressed in the way we love and treat others. Feast Day - Sept. 5

Sep. 22 & 23

St. Teresa of Calcutta, You allowed the thirsting love of Jesus on the Cross to become a living flame within you, and so became the light of His love to all. Obtain from the Heart of Jesus (here make your request). Teach me to allow Jesus to penetrate and possess my whole being so completely that my life, too, may radiate His light and love to others. Amen. Blessed Teresa of Calcutta, pray for me. Amen

Feast Day - Sept. 5

Sept. 8 – Birthday of the Blessed Virgin Mary This celebration, which follows on the prerogatives of the Mother of Christ, was introduced by Pope Sergius I (VII century) in the tradition of Eastern Europe. The Nativity of the Virgin is closely linked to the coming of the Messiah, as promised, preparation and fruit of salvation. Aurora before the sun of justice, Mary foretells to the world the joy of the Savior. (Mess. Rom.)

On the lighter side….. One bright, beautiful Sunday morning, everyone in tiny Jonestown wakes up early and goes to their local church. Before the service starts, the townspeople sit in their pews and talk about their lives and their families. Suddenly, at the altar, Satan appears!! Everyone starts screaming and running for the front entrance, trampling each other in their determined efforts to get away from Evil Incarnate. Soon, everyone is evacuated from the church except for one man, who sit calmly in his pew, seemingly oblivious to the fact that God's ultimate enemy is in his presence. This confuses Satan a bit. Satan walks up to the man and says, "Hey, don't you know who I am?" The man says, "Yep, sure do."

Satan says, "Well, aren't you afraid of me?" The man says, "Nope, sure ain't." Satan, perturbed, says, "And why aren't you afraid of me?" The man says, "Well, I've been married to your sister for 25 years."
