F A C U L T YThe program features outstanding faculty from Northwestern
Engineering’s highly rated Department of Industrial Engineering
and Management Sciences (IEMS), ranked fourth in 2016 for
graduate education by U.S. News & World Report; and experts drawn
from local industries.
Faculty members are leading practitioners and scholars of
distinction, and are well known for their experience and research.
MEM faculty members regularly serve as consultants to industry
and government, and their familiarity with current trends and
challenges enables them to provide MEM students with cutting-edge
approaches to management problems and solutions.
C A R E E R D E V E L O P M E N TAll MEM students have access to the Engineering Career
Development and Northwestern Career Advancement offices, and
graduates are encouraged to join the Northwestern Alumni
Association for key career resources.
P A R T - T I M E S T U D E N T S
MEM graduates who maintain their current employment while
completing the program on a part-time basis are typically given
significant raises and promoted to positions where they manage
larger teams or take on more sophisticated project management
responsibilities.

One-hundred percent of MEM’s most recent graduating class of full-
time students who sought a summer internship or project acquired
one during the program. In recent years, nearly 90 percent of full-
time graduates found employment within six months of graduation.
S T U D E N T / A L U M N I A C T I V I T I E S
The MEM program, in collaboration with the Student Advisory
Board, sponsors activities to develop leadership opportunities for
current students and alumni, such as an annual simulation com-
petition and frequent career networking events. Each September,
alumni, students, and faculty celebrate together during an annual
Northwestern University football game and tailgate party. The MEM
program also encourages alumni to sponsor projects within their
companies for the undergraduate design program.
S T U D E N T S U P P O R TBecause most MEM students work full-time, often in positions with
significant engineering and management responsibility, we seek to
make the logistics of the program as manageable as possible. The
program takes care of routine administrative issues, such as class
enrollment and liaison support with other Northwestern University
departments, including student accounts, financial aid, and the
International Office.
C O N T A C TInformation sessions to discuss the program and answer
questions are held throughout the year. Sessions are held both in
person and online. Join a session for more information, or email
[email protected] with specific questions.

OBJECTIVE_______________________________________________________________________________
Motivated to expand my manufacturing background and implement the knowledge, experience, and engineering from the automotive industry to help benefit a role as a controls engineer. My manufacturing experience can help bridge the gap between the manufacturing process and the controls side of machine automation, which will allow me to expand upon my electrical engineering knowledge to benefit the efficiency of a manufacturing facility.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE_________________________________________________________________
BORGWARNER, TRANSMISSION SYSTEMS Sep 2017 - Present Electrical Controls Engineer II Bellwood, IL
Promoted to the manufacturing plant’s Facilities Team - responsible for all electrical/controls related activity across the building due to the heavy involvement in electrical engineering related task contributing to: process improvement, documentation/archive standardization, and scrap reduction. Results:
Successfully reduced process scrap by 50% on existing equipment via engineered machine modifications . Accomplished by eliminating the exposure of sellable parts to damage due to severe bottlenecks in the manufacturing line. Modifications included adding transistor PLC output-controlled pneumaticcylinders to “push” parts into re-work container.
Collaborated with machine builders/controls engineers to improve machine PLC programming and provide feedback for future equipment. This includesinternally designing/implementing/adding logic to meet the demands of operations for various controls opportunities such as: Ethernet/IP pneumaticblow-off systems, inspection machine consecutive rejects faults, incorporating newer machine logic into existing equipment.
Designed HMI systems to monitor machine activity, which incorporated useful information including: hourly good/bad part counts, live moving-average scrap output percentage, notifications/reminders/audible indicators for operators, FIFO log array system for inputting operator credentials, and live machine status feedback using Allen Bradley Logix5000, and FactoryTalk View Studio for PanelView interfaces.
Administered the archiving and backup database of machine documentation, electrical CAD drawings, machine passwords, static IP addresses, and PLCprograms. This involves processing modifications to any files and archiving on network location from OEM machine builders, outside contractors and internally.
BORGWARNER, TRANSMISSION SYSTEMS June 2015 – Sep 2017 Manufacturing Engineer I / Manufacturing Engineer II Bellwood, IL
Promoted to a key member of the Manufacturing Engineering team, having held an internship during the final year of undergraduate study. Responsible for the manufacturing process as well as inspection machine design for making automatic transmission friction plates. Friction plates are composed of friction material and glued steel core assemblies bonded under hydraulic pressure and high temperatures for a short amount of time, resulting in a high precision thermal-set product held to a hundredth of a millimeter tolerance. Results:
Helped develop and improve friction plate laser inspection system to detect various part defects including: thickness, thickness variation, wave height, flatness, segment gap/count. Using Keyence single point laser displacement sensors. Worked with automation company to develop C# and .NET inspection software to measure part features during part rotation achieving a 3.7 second part-to-part cycle time.
Implemented an in-line Line-Scan Vision System, which is able to detect visual defect parts including skewed friction material, misaligned material, missing ink-marking. System includes the use of a Cognex Line-scan camera in combination with Cognex In-Sight Explorer software capable of inspectingboth the top and bottom of the part simultaneously. Thus was able to incorporate a low-cost vision system without affecting the machine cycle time.
Managed the purchase of new capital equipment from automation companies including BorgWarner Transmission Systems Korea. Involved in the overall acceptance testing, continuous improvement, and quality testing of new equipment. Capital equipment purchases exceeded $5 million. Specifically involved in the early quoting/feasibility stages of the equipment as well as overseeing the build, delivery, testing, and implementation of the equipment within the plant.
Facilitated training of machine operators, technicians, and maintenance specialists which includes the development of process documentation, standardized work instructions as well as providing spare parts catalogs for machine reactive/corrective/preventative maintenance.
UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS AT CHICAGO Jan 2015 – May 2015 Undergraduate Research Assistant Chicago, IL
Volunteered to work with tenured professor from the ECE department, Ph.D. student, and Master's student to forward their bio-medical patent through the use of electrical engineering. Their respective theses involved the use of a drug delivery system for Cataracts patients, using Stereo-lithography to design the Intraocular Lens (IOL) implant out of silicon crystal at the nano scale.
