Greetings everyone! At our last Odell Community Foundation meeting we decided we should let people who are not familiar with us know a little of what we are. The foundation was formed in 1993 as a way for people to donate money for worthwhile projects to make Odell a nicer place to live. We collect dona-tions and disperse them to the various projects un-dertaken. We have collected donations for such projects as the Old West Trail Center and the Rice Lodge. We gave out collected funds for new street lights, sidewalk improvement, and making the old elementary block into lots for potential home sites. Since the beginning of our existence, over $730,000 has been donated to help fund the above projects and a few others. We do not raise the funds themselves, but we take dona-tions and channel them to the various projects that I

have mentioned. We receive large and small donations---we never re-fuse a donation!! And we are always looking for good projects to help fund. So, with that in mind, we will be placing a suggestion box at the State Bank of Odell for anyone to make suggestions for projects. If you have ideas that will help make Odell a nicer place, please take a couple of minutes and pop your idea in the box. You can sign it or not, that is up to you. If you would like to make a donation, please talk to someone at the bank---they always like to take your money!! If you have any questions and would like to talk to a foundation member, a few of us are listed: Larry Stanosheck, Lynn Henrichs, Mark Billesbach, Perry Gydesen, Carmen Spitsnogle. Thanks, and have a great summer,

The Odell Community Foundation

As most of you know, there will be a total solar eclipse on August 21, 2017 at 1:02 p.m. What you may not know is that we are located in the band that will see the eclipse in totality. There will be thou-sands of scientists and visitors in our area for the eclipse. Hotels and campgrounds have been booked for months, including ours. The Homestead Na-tional Monument will be hosting many members of

NASA for the viewing. The Homestead will have 3 days of activities and education prior to the eclipse. As a community of Odell, we need to start planning what we can do to bring people to our community for this special event. Gwen Vi-tosh is willing to head this committee, but she needs help. She needs other volunteers willing to brainstorm for ideas, help with getting the word out (there are websites available to list activities on), and put the plan into action. Some ideas already include t-shirts and a hot dog stand. If you are interested in helping with this once in a life-

time event, please contact Gwen at [email protected].
