Melanie’s Thoughts Last day for Year 12 Today marks the last official day of school for our Year 12 students. This group of 7 boys have been an integral part of our school and we are really going to miss seeing them around every day. Each and every one of these students has made a valuable contribution to our school and we are very proud of the young men that they have become. We look forward to seeing the wonderful things they achieve in the future. Even though their official schooling is over, they still have a lot of hard work to do between now and their HSC examinations that they will sit at the beginning of next term. We wish them all the best with these exams. Performance Night Next term we will be hosting our bi annual Performance Night on Thursday the 31 st of October. The night will be held at the Tooleybuc Sporting Club @ 6 pm. Make sure you mark the date on your calendar! Senior School Leaders 2020 At our Whole School Assembly this week our Senior School Leader nominees made their speeches. I was extremely proud of everyone who spoke on Monday and they should be extremely happy with their efforts. Fairfax Last week was the culmination of all of our Fairfax activities. Fairfax has been a big part of our school this year with the film project and the festival. It has been an amazing opportunity for our students to develop their confidence and skills in performing arts. They should be very proud of themselves! End of Term Three Term Three has been an extremely positive term for school. There have been so many wonderful activities on offer for our students and as a results we have seen them grow as people. Please take the time to have a well deserved break during the holidays because I am not promising next term will be any quieter! Students at Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Embrace gratitude!

Well, another term is done, and no doubt everyone is ready to jump into holidays. But wait a minute! Getting to the end of something is always the best time to stop, reflect, and celebrate! Tuesday 23rd July was 66 days ago and a lot has happened between the start of Term 3 and now. Keeping perspective and choosing joy is a skill we need to help us get through life. Don’t miss the opportunity to celebrate the meaningful moments of the last term in your family. You might be surprised to discover just how many things you have to be grateful for! Happy holidays Liz Hindle School Chaplain

Primary News Assistant Principal Louisa Frost (Assistant Principal) What a way to finish the term! This week I had the opportunity to accompany the students to 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' this was a fantastic performance that I could tell all the students loved. We are very lucky to have so many opportunities for all of our students. On Monday afternoon we celebrated all the success students have had this term at our Whole School Assembly. It was great to have so many parents there to share this experience. Last week both the teachers and students participated in workshops to develop their technology skills. Everyone enjoyed working with the fabulous new equipment the school has been able to purchase. Tooleybuc's Got Talent has been keeping us all entertained and I have started to hear about preparations for our Performance Night next term. This promises to be another significant opportunity for all students to develop their confidence and performance skills. After such a busy term I am looking forward to a quiet break with my family. I hope you all have a good break with your families and return to school well rested, ready to tackle the final term of 2019.

Year Three/Four Sarah Everall (Year 3-4 Teacher) It’s hard to believe it is the end of term already. It has been a busy term and we have had a blast learning about protecting the environment and sustainability. Students are very proud of their efforts collecting bottle caps, with our goal of 300 bottle caps well and truly beaten. We have collected over 800! Thank you to everyone who helped us with this project. To end the term we made our very own recycled paper. It looks great and the students were engaged throughout the process.

Secondary News

Head Teacher Jean Duma (Head Teacher) This week we farewell our Year 12 students and congratulate them on the completion of their formal schooling. We are proud of our seven Year 12 students and wish them every success and happiness for their futures. It is not the last time we will see them though, as our students in Year 12 and Year 11 Focussed HSC students sit for their HSC exams beginning on the 17 October. A reminder to all these students to please use your time over the holidays for continued revision and exam preparation. Holiday Study Sessions have also been offered to Stage 6 students in the second week of the holidays - please refer to letters sent home this week for more information.

With Term 4 comes the reinforcement of the School's Sun Safe Policy, in particular 'No Hat, No Play'. All students from Foundation to Year 12 are required to wear their school hat whilst outside during breaks, PE and Sport lessons. In preparing for our Academic year rollover in Week 6 of Term 4, we wish to advise that BYOD (bring your own device) for secondary students will now be extended to include all students in Years 7-12. Further information will be sent out early next term in relation to this. Finally, we wish all our students and families a relaxing, happy and safe time during the upcoming holidays.

HSC Business Studies Megan Purtill (Business Studies Teacher) Business Studies has been a learning curve. We started with the basics and have now learnt how a successful business should operate. We have learned about the elements of business and have been able to apply these to our own workplaces. It’s been what feels like a long road, but we have got there with the aid of various learning methods.

In our preliminary course we travelled to Balranald and enjoyed experienced real business structures while talking to business owners. In Term 3 of this year, we began our Marketing topic, we undertook a blind taste test of soft drinks and chips to highlight the impact of promotion and branding. We have analysed many case studies to enhance our understanding of business concepts in a real-world sense. Miss Purtill has used demonstration of employee rewards and incentives through lollies and card games. All of this work has led up to our final HSC exam, three hours of writing and two essays in October. We will walk out in to the world confidently.

Look out for the future - we are entrepreneurs in the making!

Entrepreneurs of the future, Stage 6 Business Studies.

HSIE Howard Rosewarne (HSIE Teacher) Students have just come through another busy period with lots happening in and out of class. It's been a few weeks since we had a full complement of students in class with sporting commitments, Fairfax participation and illness taking their toll. Major assignments have been submitted and returned. There are still several students in Stage 4 with assignments outstanding in both Geography and History. It's great to see committed students achieving just reward for their efforts with pleasing results and time for some of their classmates to use class time productively.

toilets, wash basins and industrial processing units

weld and braise pipework (steel, copper, plastic and stainless steel)

system testing and commissioning

maintain and repair plumbing systems.

The plumbing industry is dominated by small firms and self-employed tradespeople. Plumbers may also work for federal or state and territory government departments concerned with public works. Plumbers can be involved in everything from domestic maintenance to high-rise construction. With further training and experience, plumbers can enter into other technical areas and become sales representatives. Some transition into; building supervisors, building and construction managers, plumbing inspectors, hydraulics consultants, technical teachers, estimators, building contract administrators or purchasing officers, or start their own business. Demand is linked with activity in the construction industry. However, unlike in other building trades, downturns in building activity have less impact on plumbers because of the work available in renovation and maintenance. Demand is also more stable in plumbing because, by law, certain jobs must be performed by plumbers. To be a plumber, it’s helpful if you:

enjoy practical work

have good hand-eye coordination

are able to work independently

are able to work at heights and different weather conditions

are able to cope with the physical demands of the job

have good interpersonal skills

have good mobility. The education and training required to become a plumber (general) is to complete a Certificate III and apprenticeship in plumbing. Entry requirements may vary, but employers generally require completion of Year 10. However, as competition is strong for available apprenticeship positions, it is recommended if you have:

completed your Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) or equivalent

a strong understanding of Mathematics and English

completed a relevant pre-apprenticeship i.e. Certificate II in Plumbing (VET Course).

Note: You will need to obtain a ‘Construction

Induction Card’ (also known as ‘White Card’) to

access any construction site in Australia. For

more information on this you can read more here:

https://www.worksafe.vic.gov.au/construction-

induction-training-white-card

Recently, Victoria’s Education Department rolled out a new government initiative called ‘Headstart’ which gives secondary school students the opportunity to start their apprenticeship or traineeship in specific trade areas, while they are at school. Plumbing is one of the trades that is being offered, so for any students who are passionate about starting their plumbing apprenticeship, this is a great pathway. ‘Headstart’ work with students from Year 10-12, to support them in finding employers, enrolling at TAFE, and ensuring they are continuing to be successful at school. If you would like more information regarding the ‘Headstart’ program, please email Alison at [email protected] You can also choose to continue further training in a specialised area of plumbing by completing a Certificate IV in Plumbing Services. This qualification gives you the skills you need to become a:

Air-conditioning and Mechanical Services Plumber

Duct fixing Plumber

Fire Services Plumber

Gasfitter

Plumber (General)

Sanitary Plumber

Water Plumber Once you have completed your training, you will be required to apply for registration and licensing with the relevant body in your state or territory i.e. the Victorian Building Association (VBA). Post-trade qualifications from the Construction, Plumbing and Services (Certificate IV) may be required to fulfill registration requirements for more specialised areas of work, such as gas fitting, draining, hydraulics and fire protection.
